I've been wanting to start on a pair of socks, have never made them, and wondered if others would like to knit/crochet along? I knit reasonably well -- probably intermediate level stuff wouldn't be daunting. Any pattern suggestions should we want to try this as a group?

I'm in the midst of my first pair of socks! Its a very basic pattern that can be done in any size from baby - men, and can be done in 3 different weights of yarn. I'm down to the foot of the first sock.Quote:

If you belong to ravelry, you can see some of the pairs people made with this pattern, some of the two color pairs are nice!
Anyway, i'd be game for another pair! It doesn't have to be this pattern, i'd do whatever. But I don't neccessarily have a good recommendation either.
Oh i can't possibly be the only one who wants to do a sock KAL/CAL! :lol:
They say making socks is very addicting. I finished one of the two for Nathalie and I can totally see why!
I will do it too. :) It will probably be a great stress reliever. I'm off to find a pattern for crochet.
BTW - I've never done something like this, what is the concept? lol
I'm working on rectangles for the Handman Afghan Project, and squares for my sons' 5.5'x7.5' blankets, and awaiting my dishcloth so I can make the one for my person. LOL I'm not sure I could handle socks, being new at this. What do you think?
ETA: Can it be done with baby yarn? I know it's about the same as sport weight. Would it work?
I'd be willing to join a KAL/CAL. I've never tried socks before, but I've always wanted to try, and this would be great motivation.

Stacey, have you been able to get onto Ravelry yet? There are 80 sock patterns there, I saw a couple of footies patterns that might be fun. I'm willing to try patterns w/ intermediate difficulty, too.
Kara, I did finally get on yesterday or maybe late Saturday night (my days are running together lol). It was wonderful. :)
I'm a crocheted sock virgin too so we can all dive in together.
A Knit-a-long or Crochet-a-long is essentially everyone working on the same pattern at the same time, so that you can discuss it as you go and then share your finished projects. Its good motivation to actualy complete a project too, if you are the type that has problems with that (*raises hand*).
I've only done one Crochet project so i totally don't feel ready to crochet a pair of socks.
We could either
1)pick one knitting pattern and one crochet pattern and the participants simply pick their weapon of choice
or
2)we find a pattern that has directions for both, if such a pattern exists. I've seen that for other types of projects, not sure about socks though!
There are tons of free patterns out there.
Maybe after we find out how many people are truly interested we can go 'free pattern shopping'! :lol:
