I read (but did not reply) to this thread a week ago. However, it stuck with me. The rainbow trekking in my stash that I got at a local Knitting night started calling my name immediately after and picked up the needles on a whim and started knitting a pair of socks toe-up. I'm halfway up the "neck" of the second sock now. It's my second pair of socks (first were from the top-down). It has been way more pleasant than I remembered last and a surprisingly quick knit. Plus, it's nice to knit something for me instead of baby knits for a change.
I don't know if I'll be up to knitting another pair of socks with you all for the CAL/KAL but I'll definitely cheer you on. Socks can be a fun and filling knit (or crochet project).
I found a sock knitting pattern I'd like to try, and it doesnt look super complex, so for the knitter's side, maybe its a good one?

The pictures on her site aren't that great, but I saw someone elses pair on another site and I really liked them:

I like that one Kim. Liked the stash of sock yarn on the couch, too! lol
It is knit from top down and I noticed someone wanted to try one knitted toe up, so perhaps we could list two pattern choices for knit -- one that goes each way.
Quick question: what needles do those of you that have made socks prefer? I think I have some plain old cheap from walmart dp's. I might talk myself into something else if it's worth while.

I didn't notice that someone had said they wanted to try toe-up! I'm totally for doing a toe-up sock (i started looking at toe-up patterns on ravelry last night). I'd do a toe-up for this project this time around so we can all work on the same thing!
I didn't find one particular pattern that I loved yet. Oh, thats not true, i love Eunny Jangs entrelac knee-highs.
But we are probably looking for something more basic to start, eh?
If anyone finds something they'd like to try, post it!
As for needles, the majority of my needles are bamboo, usually clover brand, mostly becasue thats what all the LYS's I visit carry. I have no complaints with them!

Entrelac drives me bonkers. I love how it looks. It's easy to do. EXCEPT when you are being left-handed and the instructions assume you are right handed. One day though...
If we haven't made a decision before, I'll snoop around this weekend for something that leaps out at me.

Did the crocheters choose a pattern for a CAL? If not, I'd like to I second the one jendodd posted, this:

I bought yarn for this last weekend, so I'm going to start on it soon (I'm going on a trip for work next week, so I really need a distraction/stress reliever, and a project is always a good thing!). If someone has another pattern they'd rather try, let me know, and I'll switch.
I have at least 10 pr of sock patterns in my favs at ravelry, and all kinds of yarn, I just keep forgetting to follow up with my needle order (I've been sick).
for me, I was going to try just a simple sock pattern, toe-up (because everyone says that is much easier for getting a good fit) using a multi-colored yarn- then a few with cables etc- after I have some confidence up.
I think knitty had some cute sock patterns- I'll bbl with links for you to look at.
sorry I didn't join in this earlier- I have been meaning to.

Hey, did you knitters decide on a pattern? I've never made socks, but I feel the sock bug creeping up on me.
No we never did...another one i saw that i like is the froot loop pattern in knitty. I noticed its very popular amongst ravelers. Althoug its not toe up.
