summer baby take home outfit?

So this new baby is due mid June.

I'm looking for a baby take home outfit that is suitable for summer, and gender neutral. My other three all left the hospital decked out in knit gear, and I don't want to leave this one out. In June, it could be cool, or could be warm here in Minnesota.

I'm not adverse to fingering weight patterns, provided they are not also striped! I tried that with Thomas and gave up about 4 inches into the cardigan. In the end I made him wool pants and a cardigan, but that was early May and that's pretty much guaranteed to be cool here.

Any suggestions? Patterns you liked?

Mine were both June babies...and I don't remember what they wore home! Both were small, in the 6-7 pound range, and so clothes were always too big for them. Whatever it was they were dressed in for their first trip home, it was store bought.
I did make nice blankets for them though.
My kids often wore t-shirts and diapers and little else. My son's head was large and everything needed to have the shoulder seams opened and buttons added.
Are you daring to think pink?

Janel, I didn't know you were from Minnesota!

Neutral?? Hmmm...that's tough!

If it's a girl, you could make a little dress, with a matching cardigan to go over it just incase it's a little chilly.

On ravelry, do a search for "15208 Baby Striped Raglan Set" Something similar to that may work?

I'm in Minneapolis, and I work downtown. Are you nearby?

I have this pattern faved in Ravelry. I thought it was cute and could make a good 'base' piece to start with

Although size says 3 - 6 months. Wonder if it could be adjusted

Well I didn't get my knitting back out until the past few weeks so I knew I wouldn't finish something big so I'm just doing some knit socks and a hat, but what about just some socks and a matching hat to go with a summer-y outfit? They can always wear little socks and hats Smile
I thought this was a really cute pattern too, but baby couldn't wear it home since it wouldn't work with a car seat.

That onesie is cute, and would be a great place to start! I bet you could turn it into a romper easily by just making the legs a little bit longer.

We're about an hour and a half from there, not sure which direction, but closer to St Cloud.
