    Default Is there a diffrence....stupid ?

Is there a diffrence between striping and verigated yarn?
Im assuming verigated is random color and striping is, well, self striping

I think that it might in come companies be the same thing, but I agree with you, varigated would have shorter repeats so it wouldn't end up striping.

But yarn that pools could either be varigated or self striping, it depends on what you make out of it, and where the colorsl line up.

Usually variageted has short color changes, while self-striping has longer changes.

That's true, but if you knit something long enough with the self-striping, it can appear variagated, since there isn't enough yarn to make it around (or across).

I find that I most often get yarn that pools instead of stripes or looks variagated

    Kind of like this

Yeah, Nathalie's socks 'pooled' a little, you can tell in the pics i posted. Those longies are cute! I actually like the way the colors came out!

Yeah, Janel's right. If you knit something small enough or large enough, self striping can look like varigated and vice versa. I've only seen self-striping yarn in sock yarn. Oh, but there's also Noro and Paton's Soy Wool, too.

What are you planning on knitting?
