Thank you everyone for sharing. This is my new goal this year. To learn to knit or crochet, I'm going to try both and see which one I like the most.

Another one who learned to knit from knittinghelp.com Eventually I'd like to take a class to up my knitting to that 'next' level. Right now all my stuff looks homemade I'd like to get a more 'professional' look. I also have a few knitting books, most for patterns but I have the Knitter's Companion and that's really helped too.

oh and I learned to crochet from my grandma when I was a little girl (7-8 or so, maybe younger) As much as I like it since I learned from her I don't have any of the crocheting lingo and cannot, for the life of me, follow a pattern. I thought about taking the time to actually learn but I like that my crocheting looks like grandmas I don't think it would anymore if I learned to do it the 'right' way

I learned to knit through 4-H. And have started again recently. I was good at simple stitches like knit, purl, garter, stockinette and ribbing, but hadn't tried cables or lacy. I stumbled onto Cloth of the Week yahoo group where there is a weekly pattern and a Sunday live chat if you have questions. I've learned a lot in the last 5 or so months and actually did a cable cloth that WORKED!!!!

Also I've started a shoalwater shawl that is lace (made a note to not use a kid mohair the first time I try a technique also). There are pictures in my dropshots of it in process and some of the clothes as well if you're interested. http://pregnancy.dropshots.com/Jules_CommunityMgr

I pretty much taught myself how to crochet, I found a really good book, wish I could find it right now or remember the name...The hardest thing for me was corners, it was a lot of trial and error with that. My mom tried to teach me years ago, but I really didn't pick it up from her. Someday I want to learn to knit too. I see so many cute patterns but I can make them cause I don't knit, it will change soon
