Leia (my tiny teenager!)
Update from April 21st
This was my last update in the baby journal so now I want to start a toddler one :)
I can't believe the last time I updated this was back in Sept!
Leia has changed SO much. We had a fab Christmas and she was spoilt rotten
She's 21 months now, going on 10 haha. Her vocabulary is amazing and she says things very clearly. My bros wife is called Diane and we thought she'd struggle to say it, but nope, she says it perfectly.
She has a great personality and is constantly trying to make everyone laugh. She'll randomly pick her dummy up in her toes and say 'Mummy look' then starts laughing her head off haha. She'll put her hair clip through a hole in her dummy then put it her her mouth and laugh her head off lol! Quite the comedian.
We had a complete nightmare with her 1st childminder back in Nov. Well, she was actually a friend of mine and offered to look after Leia when I came back to work which was a complete lifesaver for me. She arranged everything ie how much we would pay her and all seemed ok. I started to dislike Leia being there though as her house wasn't the cleanest and sometimes when I picked her up, her and my friends son who is 2 days older would be in the cot whilst she was on the computer. That annoyed me so I started looking for a new childminder.
The one day when I picked Leia her, my 'friend' blew up on me! I was so shocked and she told me not to bring her back...... talk about being left up sh*t street. It must've been fate though because a woman I had called who was on the register and had told me she was retiring, she'd gone into where my Mum works and asked if I still needed someone. Of course I did and so when I called and explained the situation, she let her start that Monday
Leia absolutely loved her and came on leaps and bounds because they actually played with her, painting and reading books and listening to nursery rhymes etc. She also took her out a lot.
She is in nursery now as the new childminder retired last month. Luckily she loves it and has lots of friends already The nursery told me that she never cries, is never naughty and if she does whimper, they think something is wrong with her LOL.
When I get her home it's a different story. She is that tired from playing all day that she does nothing but whinge and is very testing for me. I have no patience whatsoever lol! What can I say, she's like her Mummy and loves her sleep.
At weekends we try and get her out as much as possible and we've just started to explore our glorious island a little more. This weekend we're climbing our tallest mountain. We'll be taking a carrier for DBFs back so when she gets too tired she can be carried.
She now knows her name and will point to everyone saying 'Mummy, Daddy, Nana, leia' so so cute. She also knows what all her body parts are too and has just recently figured out where her cheeks and shoulders are haha.
She can put her own socks on, which she's been doing for at least 2 months now and helps me dress her in the morning and for bed. She still sleeps perfectly, going down awake and falling asleep on her own.
One thing she is doing atm is saying 'no!' and that is winding me up a little. Do I ignore her or let her know it's not nice? I'm sure I will figure it out. Also, she is the biggest attention seeker and cannot really play on her own. My Mum is right in saying that either me or DBF entertain her whilst the other does the tea, or cleans up, so I'm trying to stop this too. She will beg to be picked up and I have to tell her not now. She eventually will walk off to do something else.
I can't quite believe that she will be 2 in 3 months time!!!! It absolutely flies and would never have believed how fast until having her.
I am so desperate for a another, I'd love for her to have a sibling close in age but I will just have to wait and see what happens in the near future.
Well, my baby is now 2!!! I cannot believe I have a 2 year old haha. She acts more like a 13 year old everyday and sometimes it's funny, othertimes it is very waring lol.
We're in a brilliant routine, nursery everyday 8.30am until 4.30pm. I used to have a complete nightmare with her where she couldn't be left alone for 1 minute. I'd be trying to make the dinner and she'd be hanging off my leg, begging me to pick her up. Now, as soon as we pull up in the driveway she says 'watch telly... juice' haha. Watching Tv isn't the ideal situation but she loves her programmes and she has learnt SO much from them! So, she will sit and watch them whilst I do what I have to do :)
We're currently in the process of potty training, although this weekend we went camping which wasn't ideal. I brought her potty with us but because she was having so much fun, she had a few accidents and because I didn't have a ton of clothes with me I decided to put her in a nappy. Confusing to her yes, practical for me, definately. I rolled my ankle also and so she has been in a nappy straight after nursery everyday this week. Not ideal and she does go nuts but I just can't get about at the minute to be running her to the potty/toilet every 5 min! lol.
I'm trying to teach her numbers, as she counts but its '1,6,7,8,11,12' haha. If she has 2 pieces of bread in her hands for example, she knows that's '2' but I have to work on the actual counting. She's more of a singer if I'm honest. She absolutely LOVES The Tweenies and they sing fab songs and I'll hear her once I've put her to bed singing 'three little monkeys jumping on the bed' lol.
I absolutely love her too pieces and could eat her all up hehe. She is a little bugger at times too though and will sometimes slap me across the face when I'm trying to kiss/cuddle her. She gets told off and will either shout at me or cry. The joys lol. Apart from that though, she is the bestest little girl and is hardly a bother at all. She has a new baby cousin who was born on 7/28 called Olivia and she loves her so much. Whenever we talk about her, Leia says 'Uh-ivia my friend' bless.
My lovely little girl is turning into a monster!!
It's so true when they say terrible 2s and I guess it's because this is the age that they test their boundaries.
Leia can throw a right paddy when she doesn't get her own way and sometimes it takes all my might not to throw her out haha! I am doing my best to discipline her, using the naughty spot so hopefully it will pay off.
I'm not sure why but she has become very whingey at nursery and it's not like her. She loves the place, but apparently come snack/dinner time she cries and wants nothing but her blanky and dodey. I have no idea how to get her out of this, although I have limited the access to blanky at home and told her she only needs it when going to bed.
All that being said, she was good as gold over the weekend :) She asked if I would take her to the park so I did and then we baked a cake. She ate sooo much of it! I think she was proud of her creation haha.
I've not long switched her into a toddler bed, maybe a week or 2 ago. She will go down great but she has been waking quite a bit in the night. I need to put a stop to that quickly otherwise I'll be sleeping stood up lol.
I love my little girl more than life itself. I seriously don't know what my life would be like now if she wasn't in it, she's like my best friend. It's funny saying that because she is still only 2 but honestly, she is like a little 5 year old.
Her speech has always been good but it's come on a lot over the past month. She's already started with the 'You're not my best friend anymore' and 'You're not coming to my party' if I have to tell her off LOL. Where do they learn these things?? It's so funny when she says it though because she's just the cutest thing ever.
The other night I was having a 'freak out' night. Everything was scaring me and she said 'Are you scared Mummy?' I told her I was and she said 'Awwww it's ok, I'm here' bless her little soul.
A couple of weeks ago I asked her if Olive (a kid who just started her nursery and who's Mum I know) was her friend and she said 'Nooooo' very cheekily. I replied 'Awwww why not?' and she said, laughing.... 'because she poo poohed in her knickers!' I had to stop myself from falling about laughing myself, it was hilarious.
She pulls the funniest facial expressions but it is so hard to get them on camera. I really want to show her when she is older what a little character she is.
She's quite the little chatterbox and will happily tell anyone who will listen what she did in nursery during the day. All her friends seem to be boys which is kind of worrying LOL, although she could just turn into a bit of a tomboy which isn't bad. That being said, she loves to pretend to do my hair and she loves having her make up on and her nails painted. They HAVE to be pink too!
She has recently started to pretend she is holding something, like a baby rabbit in her hand and she makes me stroke him (he's called Timmy lol) and I have to kiss and cuddle him when I put her to bed haha. It is the cutest thing ever and I have to play a long not to hurt her feelings.
Mornings are a bit of a struggle as she will not allow me to dress her. She has to do it herself.... which she can amazingly, even if her knickers to end up all twisted a long with her pants haha.
She now knows who Father Christmas is and keeps telling me that he is coming soon to bring her presents and that she is a very big and clever girl. I can't WAIT til Christmas to spoil her.
Wow, it's been a while hey?
Leia is still a proper little madam, constantly telling me off if I do something she thinks is naughty. Her thing at the minute is to correct people on how they say things. Words such as 'little', 'naughty', 'better'. If you don't pronounce the T's she right onto you and says 'it's not better Mummy, it's betTerrrrr' LOL.
I am not sure where she got this from, but she has a fascination about ghosts. She will pull a face like 'OMG!' and say 'it's the ghostes' and then she will hide under her blanket. She petrifies herself though and when we join in doing the 'OoOOOooO' she squeals and practically jumps on whoever is closest haha. It's hilarious and I will admit I use it to make her do something she is refusing to do. Bad mummy me haha.
She has recently been seperated at nursery from the love of her life. Basically, they're with each other a full day, every day and because he is behind on his speech and she is very vocal, I think she gets impatient with him and tries to put him on time out. Nursery think a bit of seperation time will help. She has bitten him once and another little girl who she also loves (this was last week) and so I am trying to instill in her that it's not acceptable and that her teacher won't let them play together if she keeps doing it. It breaks her heart!
I cannot believe she will be 3 in 4 months. It's weird because even though I am shocked she will be 3, another year older, she acts so much older than her years. IMO anyway haha. I am going to spoil her so much and get her lots of outdoor toys for the summer.
Bring it on!
Oh I love my girl so much I ache inside because I can't show it enough to her, as she sometimes refuses cuddles LOL.
Her speech (which has always been good) is coming on even more. Sometimes she will come into my room in the mornings, say something and I think 'omg, her voice is changing AGAIN!' like she sounds older than her age haha. The things she comes out with too, I wonder where she hears some of the things!
We were driving to nursery one morning and another car pulled out in front of me. I obviously said something, in shock at what had just happened and Leia says 'Silly old woman!!' I had to try my hardest not to laugh but wondered where or who she'd heard saying that!
Her new thing to say atm is 'OH EM GEEE!!' it's hilarious. I haven't a problem with it, would rather she say that than OMG, but her nursery teacher has told her off, so, it's our little secret that she's allowed to say it only when we're at home. So far, she's done really good!
Leia turned 3 on July 5 - I cannot believe I have a 3 yr old! She's still just like a teenager though.
She is one horror bag when she is tired and believe me, during the week, she is guarenteed to be pooped when I get her from nursery. It is a long day for her, bless, but she has to be used to this all ready for big school next year!
I will admit I haven't been able to do much with her once we get home as I have to start tea. I would wait for DBF to do it when he gets in, but it's past 6pm and I think it's too long for Leia to wait...... if she waits too long then she wants to eat crap and I hate that.
So yes, I am guilty atm of turning on a DVD and leaving her to it whilst I do some chores. In all fairness, she does ask to watch something so it's not like I just dump her on the couch and tell her not to move LOL! Anyway, she comes in and out of the kitchen to see me and usually throws a fit or 2 because I won't sit with her or because she wants again, junk food when I want her to wait for her tea. I don't give in and I feel bad, but I am trying to teach her good habits. I know what she is like and if I was to let her have a biscuit then she wouldn't eat her tea!
Don't get me wrong, I love her too bits and she in generally really well behaved but she has had the mouth of a 15 yr old on her of late. She asked me for something the other day and I told her no as it was almost bed time. So, she thought she'd ask her Dad (like he was a softer touch) and as she was talking to him I said 'Noooo Leia' and she turned round and shouted 'I wasn't talking at you anyway!' as if to say, I wasn't asking you Mummy!!! LOL. It was hilarious but I didn't laugh and told her not to talk to me like that. She's said it a few times since but not shouty so I just let her know it's not good to talk to adults like that and she's stopped doing it now.
I am struggling with her in the mornings during the week (hence why she is so tired after nursery) as she's not waking on her own and so I have to wake her which leaves her grumpy. I wouldn't mind if she was going to bed late, but she goes down between 7/7.30 and because it's so light out still, I would feel bad if I put her down any earlier. I feel like I'm waking her, dressing her, letting her eat a bit of brekkie and then forcing her out of the door. She's still sleepy when I get her to nursery and sometimes gets a little clingy cuz she just wants hugs from me, cuddled up on the sofa bless her. I try and let her know when she is saying she doesn't want to go to nursery that it is something we have to do. Like I tell her, her big cousins go to school because they have to and Mummy goes to work because I have to.... but that nursery, school and work are fun!! We're getting there :)
I have never met a child who is so comedic, she makes me laugh my head of all the time. She always wants to help. We did the garden last weekend, deweeding, mowed the lawn etc and she got her hands dirty. She helped DBF empty the lawn mower picking up huge mounds of grass and putting it into rubbish bags, then she was helping me pull weeds and loved when we found worms and spiders haha.
In nursery she appears to have good relationships with other children, but I noticed when we're at places with other kids she doesn't know, she sort of plays on her own. She will stand back and watch others, but won't really join in. I'm not sure how to deal with this. It was her cousins 1st birthday party yesterday and my SILs nephew who is 4, him and Leia only met yesterday and they did not get a long. I caught Leia as she was about to thump him and it was only because her older cousin (10) was there that I realised the 4 yr old had poked her in the eye :( I then caught her scowling at him a little later on and then I heard him telling her off because she was playing with one of their cousins toys. I wanted to yell at him but it's not my place.... I just hate when kids bully her LOL!
Anyway, that's about it. She's going through a stage of slightly wetting her knickers and wanting them changed so that's another thing I'm trying to nip in the butt.
I managed to curb the wetting of her pants over the weekend. She was so good, making sure she told me she needed the toilet before she was ready to do it there and then. Moments like this make me so proud and happy that she actually listens to what I am telling her. I just hope she does the same at nursery!
She absolutely cracks me up.
I am considering getting her a pet. I don't want a dog though, only because we're out all day and keeping it locked in the house wouldn't be fair. So, a cat is the next best thing. So I was talking to Leia about and I asked her would she like a kitten. She initially said yes and could she call it Toto. Then she said something about it having a lead and I tried to explain that dogs need leads but cats can go out on their own. Well, that was it.
"I don't want a cat mummy, I would like a dog so I can hold it's lead!!" hahaha. So funny!!
We took Leia on her first trip to the Thearte last night to see 'The Wizard of Oz'.
She absolutely loved it!
We dressed her up in her Dorothy dress (her decision, not ours!) and she looked so so adorable. Everyone kept stopping us to talk to her, although Leia was a tad shy and didn't say much haha. She had her own seat, but wanted to sit on my knee and she was tired, rubbing her eyes etc. She kept asking me 'Where's Toto?' so I'm like 'Oooh he'll be on in a minute'. The beginning was a bit slow, but after the interval and some ice-cream, she was wide awake. She sat on her own chair, clapping away and dancing. She's such a comical kid, people around us were laughing at the things she was coming out with.
When she realised it was nearing the end, she started crying and alllll the way home she kept saying 'I want Dorothyyyy' lol, bless.
So glad we took her :)
So I forgot to say that Leia started pre-school in September. I cannot believe how fast time has flown by, my little girl isn't little anymore. She attends in the morning 9-11.30 and then her nursery collect her and she is there until I get her at about 5.15pm. Such a long day for someone so tiny! What can you do though, I have to work!
Leia loves it though and has made lots of new friends. Most are boys might I add haha. I had her first parents evening last night and her teacher told me her fave things to do are playing with the water tray, riding the play cars outside, she loves singing and acting, dressing up and role play and creativity ie cutting things out and glueing them. She has had a mischevious couple of days, although yesterday was the first time she has been continuos with it.... she pushed another child over  She also spoke to her teacher rudely "Oy! I want my snack NOW!"..... mortifying. We have decided we think it might be because she finally started sleeping in her own room on Sunday and that subconsciously she could be waking up for me and so is very tired the next day making her act out. I know she can be a monster when she is tired!! Other than this, I'm not worried because at the end of the day she is 3!
She is SO excited for Christmas haha and keeps asking me "Is it Christmas time yet?" I have explained to her that when it is December I will get her an advent calendar to count down the days lol. Her wishlist this year consists of 4 dolls, 5 prams, new paints, a bike and helmet, new books and walking dog.... I will try my best! lol.
My Mum slept her overnight on Saturday and apparently alls she did was ask for me.
"When is my Mummy coming to get me?"
"I miss my mummy."
"My mummy is coming for me soon."
Bless. It's so nice to know she loves me like that..... don't think I would be able to leave her for more than one night after knowing this haha.
She keeps asking me for a baby brother too.... she says that more but sometimes it's a brother and a sister lol! I doubt this will happen anytime soon with losing my job, but who knows! I might just become a stay at home Mum!! Wishful thinking.
