What is a typical day like for you? Give us a snapshot of a Day in the Life of Alissa. Smile
6:30 am - wake up, start getting ready for work
7:30 am - wake up T, start getting him ready for daycare
7:50ish am - leave the house, take T to daycare
8:15ish am - Stop at 303 Coffee for my morning cup of iced coffee
8:30 am - Work, mess around on Preg.Org Lol
4:30 pm - Leave work. From here, depending on the day, I either go pick up T, run any errands I have (like going to the grocery store) and cook dinner, or I go workout and DH picks up T, runs errands and cooks.
6:30 pm - Dinner
7:00 pm - Clean kitchen
7:30 pm - Give T a bath
8:00 pm - Put T to bed
8:00 pm - Do laundry, finish any cleaning or picking up around the house
8:30 pm - Watch TV/movies, hang out with DH, read, unwind
10:30 pm - Bed

What type of music do you like?
I like a variety, but my faves are rock and hiphop

Did you go to private school or public? Did you like school?
Public school. Yes, I was a very good student and I always liked school a lot.

What do you secretly or not so secretly want T to be when he grows up?
Haha. I don't know. I just want him to be happy and fullfilled in his life. I've thought maybe he might do something with music because he already loves it so much and can carry a tune and all of that. But at the end of the day, it's his choice - I just want him to do something that he loves.

Is your home neat or messy?
In between. Smile Right now it's as neat as a pin because I cleaned like a maniac yesterday, but usually it is somewhere in between. My rule is, it can be a little "lived in", but it can't be gross.

Your favorite place to shop for clothes and shoes?
This is so bad - I hardly ever shop for myself so I don't really have a favorite. I guess Target, Kohl's, and Old Navy because I'm cheap. LOL

What makes you really happy?
Watching DH play with T. It always just.....pulls my heart up over my head (if that makes any sense) to see them laughing and playing together.

What makes you really angry?
Things that I think are unfair. I'm really hung up on "fair" (even knowing that life itself is unfair) so when I see something that I percieve as unfair, either a social cause (like gay marriage) or just personal issues (like someone treating someone else unfairly) it makes me really mad.

What was your most memorable year? What events took place that made it memorable?
I think that there are 3, but I will choose the year that I turned 23, since it kind of led to the other two. The year I turned 23 is the year that DH and I began dating, and my life really changed for the better. I was kind of lost in my early 20's. I had dropped out of college, I was in a job I hated, I was in a bunch of toxic relationships (both with a boyfriend and some platonic "friends.") I wasn't doing much of anything productive and wasn't sure where I wanted to go with my life at all. Then I got together with DH, and suddenly it was like everything just clicked. The other two are 25 (the year I got married to DH) and 28 (when I had T.)

What kind of laundry detergent do you use?
Tide Free

I'm this way too. It drives me insane when things aren't "fair". It's probably the Libra in me...;)

What is your Zodiac sign and do you agree with the description of your sign?
I'm a Cancer. I do agree with the desciption - we are supposed to be really invested in and focused on our families and homes - I'd agree with that.

What is one thing you are insecure about?
My weight

What is one thing you are very confident about?
My charm. LOL

What “style” is your home/furniture?
Erm. I don't know what you would call it. More modern, I suppose. Mostly it's just colorful. I love vibrant colors, and I think our house shows that. Our living room is painted yellow, with 2 deep red leather couches, red drapes, and some throw rugs that have deep multi-colored squares on them. The pictures on the walls are mostly black and white in black frames. My kitchen/dining room are painted blue, and I have a rather plain brown wood dining room table with blue placemats. The drapes to the sliding glass door are kind of a khaki color. I have more colorful pictures in that part of the house. Our bedroom is a deep green color, with dark wood furniture, white drapes, and yellow and green and brown accents. Our bathroom is a lighter green, with purple, off white, and brown accents. T's room is my favorite - his walls are light blue with white trim, and my SIL and I made home-made stencils of different animals (elephants, lions, ducks, monkeys, dogs, penguins) and stenciled them in white in a straight line around the room about chest high. My MIL and I made the curtains which are white with blue dogs and stars. My MIL's best friend got him some of those wooden letters that say "Tristan" and she glued these adorable spongy animal stickers on them. The pictures on his walls are animal themed. And he now has a 4 foot long dragon in the corner of his room that he can sit on that my dad gave him. Spoiled. LOL

This IS fun. Thanks for putting this together Mary!

What was your favorite childhood game?
If you mean just in general, I always loved Hide and Seek and Dress Up. If you mean board games, I liked the ones with cool moving parts like Rat Trap and Hungry Hungry Hippos.

What board game do you like now?
I don't play a lot of board games....but occasionally I like to play Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, and Cranium

What outdoor activities do you enjoy most?
I like going for walks. I'm a bad Coloradoan because I rarely go hiking, I've only been camping like 3 times, and I've never skied in CO. But I do like to take in some fresh air and go for a walk.

What is your favorite thing to do to unwind/relax/de-stress?
Wine. LOL No, really my favorite thing to do is just throw on a movie or a good TV show and hang out with DH after I've gotten everything I wanted to do for the day done. I just can't rest if I've still got things on my Daily To Do list (like dirty dishes in the sink) so I love the feeling of knowing that I don't have to do even one more productive thing for the day. I'm done. And wine. LOL

What do you like most about your job?
It's something new every day, and my job is productivity based rather than time based, meaning that as long as I get everything done, they are very flexible about my time, et cetera.

What do you like least about your job?
This is so mean, but there is this one girl....She's just super super negative all of the time, and any more she pretty much refuses to talk to me, and she sits right across the aisle so I have to see her and see her ignoring me every day. It's a bummer, but I don't let it get me down. I think she's just a really unhappy person all the way through, to be honest.

What brand of chocolate do you like the most?
Cadbury

What book are you currently reading?
The Host by Stephanie Meyer

What magazines do you like to read?
Hmmm....I guess I don't really read magazines very often. The only one I can remember reading over the last couple of years is High Five with T. LOL

How did you meet your DH?
Oh no. It's scandalous! Biggrin He dated a friend of mine....then they broke up and a couple of years later we met up again. But I had a boyfriend.....

Where did you go on your first date?

First official date - a free Steely Dan concert. The time we both consider our real first date, we went to a Chinese restaurant and then bowling. We were supposed to be just friends, and I had that boyfriend at the time, and nothing happened (no kissing or holding hands or romantic talk or anything like that) but we both felt it.

What do you like most and least about your DH?

Most - his sense of humor
Least - his Eeyore-ness. LOL That's what I call it. When things go wrong, he sometimes turns into a total Negative Nancy. Like, no making the best of a bad situation, or turning lemon into lemonade - in his mind, everything is awful and they can only go downhill from here. It drives me crazy because I'm usually pretty positive and optimistic.

What do you like most and least about T?

Most - He is so freaking smart, it completely blows me away every day. He's also incredibly sweet and loving. And funny! Okay, so I like most things best about T. He's amazing.
Least - I hate it when he whines.

Do you get along with your IL's?
Yes, they are awesome.

What's in your purse right now?

All sorts of crap. I'm too lazy to get off the couch and go get it, but I know that I have my wallet, keys, cell phones (work and personal), work badge, all of these miscellaneous papers, some sort of crumbled up granola bar that I keep meaning to clean out but keep forgetting about, and a bunch of lip glosses and chap sticks that I never wear. Oh, and some mysterious unlabeled medicines. They are little and red and round in a bubble pack. I found them at the bottom of my purse the other day. I'm thinking they might be a decongestant. I guess next time I'm sick I'll try one and find out. LOL

What's your can't-miss TV show(s)?
When it's on, True Blood. I also love House (although I suspect they jumped the shark last season), Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and 30 Rock.

Did you do any extracurricular activities in high school? (sports, choir, etc)
Choir

What was your first job?
I was a hostess at Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon. We had to line dance and sing at regular intervals.

Where was your last vacation?

Rapid City, SD. And it was awful. T got the stomach flu, and it was hotter than 9 yards of h#ll the entire time we were there.

LOL - I'm such a goof. Turns out I was right - they are decongestants. Helps if you just turn the package over and read what is written on the back of the bubble packing. LOL I figured they were though. I don't take a lot of OTC medicines, so there was a pretty limited range of options. Smile

Do you have a favorite movie...one that you never get tired of watching?
Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell! It's been my favorite ever since I was a kid. When I was a kid, my cousins (Shanna and Chelsea) and my brother and I all used to go spend like a month+ during the summer with our grandma, every year until I was in high school. It was like a month long slumber party every year. And the one movie that Shanna and Chelsea and I used to watch over and over again through out the years is Overboard (someone - I think Shanna - had it on VHS) It's so cheesy, but it always makes me feel happy to watch it. DH got it for me on DVD several years ago because the VHS that I bought when I was in college was totally dying from over use.

If you could pick one food item to make calorie and fat-free what would it be?
Just one? I'm a major carb girl, so I'm going to say rice. I could do a LOT with rice if it were calorie free.

What is your dream vacation?
I would love to go spend time in Santorini, Greece. My parents went there a few years ago, and the pictures and stories they brought back made it look and sound like paradise.

How many books do you read in a month?
Probably 4-5. I think it usually takes me about a week to finish a book, depending on how long it is.

Do you have any favorite beauty products?
I love Redkin shampoo and conditioner, but rarely buy it because it's expensive. Other than that, I love Cetaphil products (wash and lotion). They keep my skin very healthy looking.

Did you grow up in Colorado?
Nope. I was born in MO and lived there until I was 6. 6-17 I lived in OH. Then at 17 (and a senior in high school ) I moved to CO.

Do you have any bad habits?
I sometimes bite my nails, but it is off and on.

Haha, no. Actually, I still haven't really decided what I want to be when I grow up, but I don't think that anyone says "I want to work in the merchant processing industry when I grow up."

Surprise! Mary Poppins is coming over to babysit for the weekend. What do you and DH do with your free-time?
A whole weekend!?! The mind boggles! LOL Hmmm, maybe go spend the weekend in a little B&B in the mountains. :biglove:

He did awesome. It was my 24th birthday, and he planned a whole perfect day for me. He kind of went overboard, tbh. It was really really romantic. First, he took me to breakfast at my favorite breakfast place. Then, he took me to walk around the Denver Botanic Gardens, which is beautiful. Then he took me to a sandwich place that we both love to pick up sandwiches, and we had a picnic in a really pretty nearby park. We went home and just hung out for a while, and then he took me to get a manicure. Finally he drove me over to this park on the other side of town. The signifigance of this park is that a year before we first started dating, we had gone on a date where we went and got ice cream at this local place that was right next to the park. We walked over to the park and sat in the swings while we ate our ice cream, and very awkwardly, he asked me "Will you be my girlfriend?" I always teased him about that, because it was such a jr high moment. So went went back to that park, and he asked me to be his wife. Very, very sweet.

Haha Emily, I was on a roll. Normally it takes me awhile to come up with questions.

You guys are coming up with some good questions!

Alissa, I loved Overboard, too! Great movie Smile Oh, and I giggled about your purse. I recently downsized to a really small purse, for that very reason. Now I am forced to clean out my purse on a regular basis, so no more half-crumbled granola bars for me Lol

Jina, be sure and ask me that question about the calorie-free food, too, when my turn comes around! I can't wait to answer that one. If you remember by then, since I'm last on the list, lol. Of course, at this point, if someone else signs up, I'll move up a slot and let them be last Smile

Wow, that's a tough one! I would love to be really altruistic and say that I would trade places with someone who does a lot of humanitarian work or something. But actually, I think I would want to trade places with someone who is rich (so that I could afford to pamper myself outrageously for the day) and has no obligations on their time (so I wouldn't have to, like, work and stuff.) Paris Hilton? LOL!!!

If you could trade places with a non-famous person for a day, who would it be?
This is so ridiculous, but I've always kind of wanted to be a dog groomer. It just sounds like such a fun way to make a living. Sooooo....a dog groomer? Lol

If you could travel though time, where you go?
The ice age. Ever since the Clan of the Cave Bear books, I have been fascinated with that time period and how people lived back then.

What scares you?
Silly fear - bugs. Not all of them, but a lot of them. I hate spiders, bees, horseflies, anything that has the potential to bite me or sting me and hurt me.
Deeper fear - DH dying before me. It's stupid, but I sometimes fret about the fact that one of us is going to die before the other. I don't want DH to die first. It's like that Winnie the Pooh quote "If you live to be 100, I hope that I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you."

Do you have any regrets?
Yes. I wish I would have figured out what I wanted to be when I grow up when I was in my early 20's and didn't have a lot of obligations. It's hard to take the time and possibly the pay cut when you have a family.

What makes you roll your eyes/cringe?
Overuse of the word "chica". See also "You go girl!"

If they made a movie about your life, what genre would it be and who would play you?
Definitely a comedy. My philosophy is to laugh so you don't cry. Emma Stone would play me.

I'm horrible about questions, and I can't think of any. I do want to say how much I'm enjoying your answers.

bahaha... this made me laugh out loud. My mom always says ridiculous things like that. It makes me grind my teeth.

What's your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Are you a neat freak or super laid back or somewhere in-between about how clean your house is?
Are you super organized, middle-of-the-road, or don't care? Smile
Is there something that we might be surprised to know about you?

Weekends are really my time to spend with T, but they are also my best shot at cleaning and whatnot, so I always have to balance fun time with chores. I try to do a variety of things with T on the weekends: go to the park, go swimming at our rec center, et cetera. Today my SIL and I are taking him to a "Fall Festival" at this big farm about 45 minutes outside of metro Denver. They have hay rides, a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and the world's largest cornucopia. LOL

I think somewhere in between. My rule is that my house must not be gross, but it can be a little "lived in". So, a few books or toys left out in the living room, meh, no big deal. Gross kitchen or toilets - unacceptable.

Are you super organized, middle-of-the-road, or don't care?
Smile
Again, I think middle of the road. I definitely would not call myself disorganized, but I also wouldn't say super organized either.

Is there something that we might be surprised to know about you?
Hmmmm.....I can't think of anything truly shocking about myself....but you might be surprised to know that as a teen I was totally anti-marriage and anti-kids. Not just that I wasn't ready for them, but I thought that I never wanted either. I can't even remember why now. LOL

Thanks again for setting this up Mary. This was fun.

If you could trade places with a non-famous person for a day, who would it be?
This is so ridiculous, but I've always kind of wanted to be a dog groomer. It just sounds like such a fun way to make a living. Sooooo....a dog groomer? Lol

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. I've always kind of wanted to be a dog groomer too! I would seriously consider doing it for fun if the opportunity ever came up....lol.

If you could travel though time, where you go?
The ice age. Ever since the Clan of the Cave Bear books, I have been fascinated with that time period and how people lived back then.

Oooh, me too! Though, I might be more tempted to travel to the future...lol.

So this is where everyone is hiding out. I was wondering what was happening with the CTC thread.
