What denomination are you? Do you actually stand up and do sermons (I have a huge fear of public speaking, so this would be huge to me)?

    Have you always been religious?

What are 5 things that you want to do/accomplish in your life?

    What is your favorite book?

    Favorite movie?

    Favorite thing to cook?

    Yay! So excited about this!!

What are you DS and DD like? Are their personalities different?
Ha! Good question- I don't think they could be MORE different. Aidan is very rough and tumble, but he has a very sensitive heart. He doesn't like watching anything even remotely sinister/scary and he tears up when he hears about bad things happening to people. For instance, we were watching Monsters vs. Aliens the other day and he was most concerned that Susan/Ginormica was taken from her family. He looked at me with tears in his eyes asking "What's going to happen to her, mommy?"

Ainsley on the other hand is very bada**. She has this huge personality that makes me scared of her teenage years. We dressed her up like a shark for Halloween because she has a habit of biting when she gets angry.

    What is your DH like?
He's the guy that everyone loves. I don't know if you guys watch this seasons' Dancing With The Stars (my guilty pleasure), but JR totally reminds me of him. Always positive, looks for the best in everyone, funny. He's half Indian and half Dutch, so he's this big, tall brown guy. Good lookin. He's a great dad, too.

How did you and your DH meet?
We met at this tiny college in Saskatchewan. I transferred there a semester before him. He walked into the girls' dorm and said, "hey, is that your Buick out there? My mom has one just like that!" Classy pick up line.

What is it like to be in ministry together? Do you have long hours?
We love being in ministry together, but we do face a lot of resistance. We are a team, through and through. We each have our strengths and cover each others' weaknesses. A lot of people can't handle women in leadership in ministry. I've come to realize that I will always face some resistance, but as long as the two of us are on the same page, I don't really care about everyone else's opinions.

We work long hours because DH also works another job full time. We take turns carrying the load. I handle most of the day to day load. I take people to coffee, do hospital visits, administrative work, organize meetings when needed, and I head up the music and children's programs. Trevor does most of the speaking, and he does coffee with people throughout the week as well. We've started taking one night a week that is family night because it started overwhelming our lives!

What denomination are you? Do you actually stand up and do sermons (I have a huge fear of public speaking, so this would be huge to me)?

We are part of a denomination called Foursquare International (I guess one would dub it Charismatic), but I've been involved with different ones as well. I've never been drawn to a certain denomination as much as individual churches. I don't think we'll leave Foursquare, though because they are very supportive of their pastors. They provide us with so much assistance and give all their pastors free counselling (we do by Skype and it's been so great for us) and they even sent us a card when they heard about our miscarriage.

I do speak! I've done it since I was a little kid. I used to preach sermons into a tape recorder when I was 5 or 6 and hide them under my bed. Once my sister found them and made fun of me for YEARS! Not even kidding you, though- our denomination when I was a kid had talent contests, and they had preaching contests! I actually had preaching trophies. Now that, my friend, is legit.

    Have you always been religious?

I guess you could say that. I grew up as a pastor's kid, so I've always been around it. I think I was more "religious" when I was younger. I grew up in fear of this God that I learned about in church who was very stern and unloving and judgmental. I mean, my birthday is on Halloween, and I was never allowed to go trick or treating. We would sit in a dark house so no one would knock on our door. My mom told everyone my birthday was on November 1st because she was so embarrassed.

For example, this is my mom's Facebook status right now: (Not even making this up)

"Hoorray!!! halloween is OVER so glad, sick and tired of nothing but witchcraft, demons and vampires on the TV and everywhere you go. What a horrible holiday, using the word holiday very loosely! Wish you folks would spend as much, time, energy, preparing your dress and money on the Lord. His benefits last ALL year and are also out of this world! Try it you WILL like it!"

Now I believe what I believe out of my decision and not based on fear. And I've learned to respect and love others who may not believe the same as me. And I focus on championing for social justice like Jesus did and separate myself from the people who claim to be Christian but hoard their wealth while people are suffering (because THEY earned it, goshdarnit!), fling insults and accusations when they should be mending relationships, and judge people when they should just be loving people.

Oops... went off in left field. I think because of what I've grown up around and still see everyday, the term "religious" has a whole another connotation to me.

What are 5 things that you want to do/accomplish in your life?
    1. Write a book- I have a blog now, but I'd like to eventually turn it into a whole book.
    2. Write and record an album- I already write music, play piano, and sing- but never followed through.
    3. Get my master's degree in Counseling.
    4. Become healthy again.
    5. Learn photography.

    What is your favorite book?
Oh, I love to read so much! I love historical fiction (especially anything by Shaara) and classic literature (Austen, Hardy, etc.). I also quite enjoy reading non-fiction by C.S. Lewis and biographies. I just finished on on Mary, Queen of Scots. So intriguing.
A book that changed my way of thinking is You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train by Howard Zinn. Fantastic.

    Favorite movie?
Hmmmm... I can never pick. I remember watching A Time To Kill when I was younger and being deeply moved by it. I also love sports movies, especially Blindside. The latest movies I've fallen in love with is The Help and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

    Favorite thing to cook?
I love cooking! But my favorite thing to cook is homemade pizza, because our whole family helps, even Ainsley. We're all covered in flour when we're done, and it's usually past bedtime because it takes so long. But it's frustratingly wonderful.

    Favorite thing to eat?
On a regular basis- chicken tacos on corn tortillas with homemade guacamole salsa and pico de gallo.
What I never get- good, southern fried chicken, or country fried steak with gravy. Canadians just don't get it! :P

Elizabeth, I loved reading your answers. I hope I didn't offend you by asking if you have always been "religious" - I just love knowing what people believe and why and hearing about their "journey" to get where they are. I love that you embrace your religion out of love and joy and not out of fear. I am not really a very spiritual person myself (although sometimes I feel myself moving more in that direction) but the thing that I do believe is that our purpose as living, thinking, caring human beings is to be the living embodiment of God's love for each other. If there is a God. And even if there isn't. LOL After my first miscarriage, I was rocking my son to sleep in his room, and I was praying which I almost never do, just trying to come to some sort of understanding or peace. And in the middle of this big conversation I was having with God, my son, who I thought was asleep, says out of the blue "I love you Mommy." And it just kind of clicked in my head that he is living proof that if there is a God, he loves me very very much or else he wouldn't have given me such an amazing gift as my perfect beautiful funny little boy and his love for me. And if T can prove that God loves me, then maybe I can prove that God loves you, and you can prove that God loves the next guy, and maybe that's the point of this whole merry go round is to just be kind to each other and show each other the love that God has for us. And sometimes that is a hard job LOL. Somedays I literally mutter "God's love" under my breath to remind myself that I need to be kinder to someone who is totally testing my patience, and too many times I forget it all together. But it's something to aspire to, right?

Anyway, sorry, I'm totally rambling, I just really connected to what you said about your beliefs, about being a champion for social justice and what not.

Okay, now I have to think of some more questions!

You didn't offend at all! On the contrary, I quite like getting the chance to share my journey. I know how much the church has messed things up and how they've hurt so many people, it's nice to explain how my faith may look a little different than what people would automatically assume.

What is one thing that you like to do to unwind?
If you could live anywhere in the world for one year, where would you live?
If you could have one food be calorie and fat free, what would you choose? (stole that one from Jina!)
Who is one person IRL that inspires you?

What irritates you more than anything?
Selfishness. That, and obvious grammatical errors (especially your/you're, there/their/they're... especially on Facebook statuses. lol)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. Man, I miss that ice cream. We used to get my sister who is still in Texas to send it to us packed in dry ice.

    Where did you grow up?
    Houston, Texas

What is the one thing you miss about living in the States?
The shopping. Canada has paltry deals. And Target. But that's coming to Canada. I just have to make it one more year!

What is the one thing you don't miss about living in the States?
The health insurance. I had DS in Washington, and I'm still paying his bill. Thank you, Aetna.
