    So get this:

On 7/7/05, I got my period. I got pregnant with Erin that cycle.

Today is 7/7/08, and my period came.

Maybe it will be my lucky month.

I had my baseline ultrasound this morning and asked my doctor a lot of questions. She wasn't really encouraging, but she wasn't debbie-downer, either. She basically said that she thinks one or two more IUI's are not out of the question, but then we need to move on.

First of all, there is no rhyme or reason for why it's not working- IUI is not a perfect process and there are a lot of factors involved, so it may not be just a sperm issue.

Second- I'm not doing Clomid anymore. I'm going to be taking Femara- clinical name Letrazol. It's actually a cancer drug but acts just like Clomid does when taken in low doses. Side effects are supposed to be more mild than Clomid.

The next thing we talked about were our options. Before we move on to injectables and IUI, we would have to do a laporscopy because there is a possibility that I have endometriosis. I've always had heavy, painful period, and I was put on birth control at 17 because they were worried I did have it. Well, before we break out the big guns and spend huge amounts of money, they need to make sure that my ovaries or fallopian tubes don't have any endometriosis on them anywhere, because that can hinder a fertilized egg from making it's way to the uterus. (For those of you who don't know, endometriosis is a condition where the lining of the uterine sheds, but gets attached to various places inside your body- the bowels, fallopian tubes, etc). The only thing about the laporoscopy is that its a major surgery- they put you out for it, put gas into your abdomen, explore around, find anything that doesn't belong where it is and then laser it off, etc. It's not as bad as a c-section, but it's still surgery.

However, if we go straight to IVF, they won't need to do a laporoscopy, because they bypass the ovaries and fallopian tubes and just put the embryo's straight into the uterus.

So I really don't know. Steven and I have a lot to discuss. It seems like we just keep getting thrown more curve balls, and more questions are coming up then answers. That's infertility for you, I guess.

I can feel us moving towards IVF. That is slowly what is happening. Ugh. I never thought we'd be in this situation.

Angela, I'm sorry to hear the news from your RE wasn't better and that now you have more questions than answers. Hopefully the Femara can bring things together for you this month and you won't have to take the next steps.

It's encouraging to hear it may not be a sperm issue (referencing IUI process), relieving some of the pressure off DH.

I am so glad there is an alternative option to the Clomid. I hope the Femara/Letrazol works better with your hormones for numerous brighter days.

IUI w/ laproscopy for endometriosis DX vs. IVF: Big decisions. I'm concerned that you've been suffering so much during AF. If you go straight to IVF, this might be something to look into down the line to rule out as endometriosis is reportedly treatable.

It is much to discuss. I am praying God gives you clear discernment. Just wanted you to know I'm still following along here with the girls.

I'm sorry that AF showed up...I hope that the dates being the same are a good sign.

I really hope that the next IUI works for you, and I hope that the Femara is much easier on you than the Clomid was. You're in my thoughts!

Well, either I am getting sick (um, maybe it was the tomatoes on those sandwiches, Jennifer?) or the Femara is making me nauseous. I've been on
the verge of throwing up all day, and my mouth keeps watering. Yuck, ick.

I actually feel like I have morning sickness, but since we all know that's not it.....I'm thinking it's the Femara.

    That's about it for now....

Sounds awesome. Is that an expected side effect? Sending hugs and good thoughts.
