I will start off by introducing myself. My name is Abida, I am 22 and living in London. I have been married for almost three years and we have decided to try and start our family. I have had type one diabetes (i.e. insulin dependent) for 9 years now. I am on an insulin pump and have to test my blood sugar around 6 times a day. After a while it becomes second nature to just test all the time and isn't such a hassle really. I think it helps to have an insulin pump instead of shots because it is much easier to control and you don't have to have such a strict regime around eating and taking your shot, so I would recommend a pump to anyone with diabetes and has to take insulin!! I have been on it for seven years now and can't imagine life without it!
As far as TTC I have the same concerns as others, but I am very impatient!! I can't wait for it to happen!! I think also when you have a life long disease, especially one that you have grown up with, you start to expect that your body will not work properly. I just have this fear that because this one thing doesn't really work properly, then maybe conceiving and having children won't happen for me either. It is hard to explain to people who have never had medical problems because you think everything will go properly whereas if you grow up medical problems all your life, you just think that it won't happen.
ANyway, this is the first 'official' month that my husband and I have started to try. Last month we did also simply because I was paniking because I o'ed so late, but I didn't really produce any eggwhite and sadly no baby! I was quite concerned about not producing enough eggwhite last month. We were going to try for a baby about 1 1/2 years ago so I bought Toni Weshler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and was so fascinated that we used monitoring my cervical fluid for birth control instead what I bought the book for!!! I was starting to think that this cycle I wasn't going to produce any, but then last night, whoa!! So hopefully I will ovulate in the next couple of days and I will be able to add in this journal when I get my BFP!!
I will try to post links on diabtes and pregnancy and a link to my charts later. Good luck to everyone who is trying for a baby, I hope that it works quickly for you and that you have a safe and healthy pregnancy!!
