Its amazing how when you're TTC, every little twinge, pain, niggle, feeling... its ALL interpretable in the TTC'ers mind...

Its CD14, and is what the world says is mid cycle to the 'average' woman ( ) also the legendary 'O' day... So here i am, this mornign i have lower back cramps. Of course what goes through you're mind - am I ovulating? Is this it? Boy am i glad we BD last night

Will my temps rise on my chart? Or am i annov again? Am i set for another (at least) 40 days of nothing before it starts over?

I got a letter through from the hospital yesterday - it said that within 17 weeks of the date of the letter, i will receive another letter advising me of the date of my appointment, which will be within 6 weeks of THAT letter Ridiculous huh?

Of course i hope against hope that i wont need the appointment...

Anyway, im gettign maudlin and thats the last thing i want, ive been in a foul mood all day, i think because of this whole mental 'will i wont i' thoguhts Im quite tired too, im so ready for our holiday. We are camping for a week (see my general journal) and i cant wait, i love camping, and it'll be good, just me and DH.

Anyway, enough beating myself up for today

I feel much better today, my temp didnt rise but i hardly expected it to (just hoped ) If im like this now, on cycle one, goodness know what i'll be like 6 months down the line....

Im reading a book at the moment called babyville, all about 3 couple in various 'stages' eg one woman desparately TTC, one unexpectedly PG, one happily PG and the relationships between those three...

Last night i was having a look through TCOYF (fab book) and i found a small paragraph in there - it said that long cycles, with low temps can indicate low thyroid function (there was another symptom which i cant remember right now, but it was true to me). So this moring ive looked on line at Hyperthyroidism and its given a list of other symptoms...

My risk factors for hypothyroidism include:

____ I have a family history of thyroid disease
____ I have had my thyroid "monitored" in the past to watch for changes
____ I had a previous diagnosis of goiters/nodules
____ I currently have a goiter
____ I was treated for hypothyroidism in the past
____ I had post-partum thyroiditis in the past
____ I had a temporary thyroiditis in the past
____ I have another autoimmune disease
____ I have had a baby in the past nine months
____ I have a history of miscarriage
____ I have had part/all of my thyroid removed due to cancer
____ I have had part/all of my thyroid removed due to nodules
____ I have had part/all of my thyroid removed due to Graves' Disease/hyperthyroidism
____ I have had radioactive iodine due to Graves' Disease/hyperthyroidism
____ I have had anti-thyroid drugs due to Graves' Disease/hyperthyroidism

I have the following symptoms of hypothyroidism, as detailed by the Merck Manual, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Thyroid Foundation of America

____ I am gaining weight inappropriately
____ I'm unable to lose weight with diet/exercise
____ I am constipated, sometimes severely
____ I have hypothermia/low body temperature (I feel cold when others feel hot, I need extra sweaters, etc.)
____ I feel fatigued, exhausted
____ Feeling run down, sluggish, lethargic
____ My hair is coarse and dry, breaking, brittle, falling out
____ My skin is coarse, dry, scaly, and thick
____ I have a hoarse or gravely voice
____ I have puffiness and swelling around the eyes and face
____ I have pains, aches in joints, hands and feet
____ I have developed carpal-tunnel syndrome, or it's getting worse
____ I am having irregular menstrual cycles (longer, or heavier, or more frequent)
____ I am having trouble conceiving a baby
____ I feel depressed
____ I feel restless
____ My moods change easily
____ I have feelings of worthlessness
____ I have difficulty concentrating
____ I have more feelings of sadness
____ I seem to be losing interest in normal daily activities
____ I'm more forgetful lately

I also have the following additional symptoms, which have been reported more frequently in people with hypothyroidism:

____ My hair is falling out
____ I can't seem to remember things
____ I have no sex drive
____ I am getting more frequent infections, that last longer
____ I'm snoring more lately
____ I have/may have sleep apnea
____ I feel shortness of breath and tightness in the chest
____ I feel the need to yawn to get oxygen
____ My eyes feel gritty and dry
____ My eyes feel sensitive to light
____ My eyes get jumpy/tics in eyes, which makes me dizzy/vertigo and have headaches
____ I have strange feelings in neck or throat
____ I have tinnitus (ringing in ears)
____ I get recurrent sinus infections
____ I have vertigo
____ I feel some lightheadedness
____ I have severe menstrual cramps
Of that list, here are the ones that relate to me.

____ I have a family history of thyroid disease (- my mum and nan)
____ I am having irregular menstrual cycles (longer, or heavier, or more frequent)
____ I am having trouble conceiving a baby
____ I feel restless
____ My moods change easily
____ I feel shortness of breath and tightness in the chest
____ I feel the need to yawn to get oxygen
____ My eyes feel gritty and dry
____ My eyes get jumpy/tics in eyes, which makes me dizzy/vertigo and have headaches
____ I have vertigo
____ I feel some lightheadedness

Now im really not one to 'diagnose myself' and disagree with people who do this, but i really do wonder if this could be my problem. I think the worst of my symptoms have been really bad headrushes recently, i only need to kneel for a minute and when i stand up, i almost faint, everything goes black. Really odd.

This is, remember not long ago i had bloodtests and they said that my thyroid function was ok... LOL its probably really IS ok, im just worrying over nothing, but maybe when my hosptial appointment comes through, i'll mention it. Or maybe i'll ring the doctors and ask for my results for that thyroid function test, though i think the best they can say is 'they were ok' - how helpful is THAT? not very...

Anyway, in the meantime, i am going to take the supplements it recommends for people with hyperthyroidism. Its these -

Iodine
Selenium
Zinc
Vits C, D & E
Antioxidants
Essential fats }
Amino Acids }
- (i think both those two can be gotten from oily fish)

Afterall, it cant hurt to take these as they are all natural. So i'll get half of the things i havent got in the next few days and start taking them.

People on another thread said its likely to be ok, i'll mention it to my gyn (when i eventually get an appointment!) and i'll take my charts along. I wonder at what point they treat you if you're not ovulating. This will have been since October last year - 11 months.

I updated my chart (at last!)

Well I gave in and did a HPT - predictably it was negative...

Its so ridiculous.... I KNEW it would be negative, but you still hope YKWIM? It was just driving me mad, I have cramps, i keep nearly passing out with head rushes, im constantly having to go pee

So as i now know for definate im not pg, what the heck is going on with my body?

Ive have the cramps for about a week before my temps peaked (briefly) now they are back down again, not as low as before admittedly.

Ive had earache too, so maybe im just feeling a bit run-down again? Ive decided that if this turns out to be a UTI, then i'll go back to the docs on monday and get some meds, then ask about the other symptoms at the same time.

Seeing Kev with Louis today was bittersweet He's so great with kids, he deserves to be a dad. And hopefully one day he will be.
