    Default Calling all interior designers!

I love, love, love my kitchen backsplash. But my cabinets are... meh. It's not really in the budget to replace them right now. They are high quality wood, just not what I want. I'm thinking of refinishing them and doing a new counter. Probably a Corian one. the floors are going darker as well, a walnut color. And eventually well get new appliances.

Darker cabinets and a lighter counter?

White cabinets and a darker counter?

    or something else?

I love your back splash and counters - I think that every time I see your signature. If you were going to change it I would just worry about the cabinets. I would probably go darker but I prefer dark to white.

I think if it were my kitchen then I would choose darker cabinets. I chose number one because I'm not sure if darker cabinets and dark counters would make the kitchen too dark overall. I love those granite counters that have black mixed with the creams to lighten it up. Of course granite can be crazy expensive and I know there are alternatives out there.

For the record, your kitchen is very nice how it is.

Yeah...its a small space so I worry darker floors with darker cabinets would feel too dark. Our current counters are black granit and theyre okay, but they just don't do it for me anymore. I probably should reinstall photoshop on my computer and see how it looks with the dark and the light before making a change IRL.

I'd go with white cabinets. Do you read the blog Young House Love? They're in the middle of remodeling their own kitchen right now and are refinishing their cabinets instead of buying new ones.

Personally I would go darker cabinets and light counter. But, that's only because we have light cabinets and dark counter and I HATE it. You can see every single little crumb on the dark counter. I hate that. I would LOVE a lighter counter with dark cabinets!

BTW, I LOVE your backsplash!!! In the picture of Ava and Andrew, I kept thinking, "They are adorable, and I love the backsplash!"

I also like your cabinets, counters, backsplash. I am not a big fan of white cabinets so I'd go dark if I had to choose between the two.

Darker cabinets! We have white cabinets that we painted and we already need to redo them. They show all the dirt. I never thought of that when we did it, and now we are stuck because we put in a darker counter. Which, I agree, shows all the crumbs and dirt. It is super frustrating. Darker floors will also show all the crumbs, unless you make the floor a black and white marble color, which apparently masks it. Who knew?

I prefer lighter cabinets and a lighter counter. I too have white painted cabinets which frustrate me by showing everything! I like the bright, but would prefer something other than white. As for counters, I prefer lighter counters, probably because I work in a lab and we have black counters, so I could never have them at home...to clinical lol.

I think your kitchen is very cute!

I don't think the cabinets look bad at all. If I were to spruce anything up, I'd consider adding hardware to the the cabinets/ drawers (silver) and if it were in my budget, I'd replace appliances with ones that had a stainless steel finish.

If you plan to refinish your cabinets, I would go dark. My last house we had cabinets similar to yours with a Corian counter. It looked good. However, with my new house, we chose to go dark wood and I just love it. We also chose a granite that actually hides the crumbs! When I clean them, I have to bend down and glance across the counters just to be sure I wiped down all of the spots! It hides the mess almost too well!!
