And now I know

Now I know how it feels to have someone say, "Are you sure there is just one in there?". I really hope I've never said that to a pregnant woman. If I have then I need to find her and apologize profusely. I've been on the receiving end of this comment a couple of times lately and it just isn't funny. My pregnancy hormones hijacked my sense of humor when it comes to my body.

I'm pretty sure those people have completely forgotten their sensibilities and the knowledge of what a pregnant woman looks like! I don't think that's ever an appropriate comment personally. ((hugs))

People are just rude! Usually it is either someone who has never been pregnant or a man that says stupid things like that!

The annoying thing is that I like my pregnant body. My good friend told me the other day that my arms are bigger. She is pregnant too and said hers are bigger as well. I honestly hadn't even noticed mine were supposedly bigger. I've noticed I've gained more in the rear but that's the only area I feel a little self conscious about. I could do without the critiquing. I think pregnancy is beautiful and I don't like the negativity. Although, the people who made that comment (in the OP) to me do not have the best track record. One was my BIL and he once told me, "You're not getting any younger." in reference to us not having children yet. This was a few years ago and little did he know, we were TTC, it just wasn't happening.

People seem to lose their filters when they are pregnant. Plus, they have no idea what a pregnant person is suppose to look like. I've heard the "are you sure there is just one" comment and a "You're so small! Is the baby okay?" in the same day. I also heard those after I delivered too.

I'm learning people just talk to have words come out of their mouth. I actually had someone ask me if my kids were Asian recently. People are weird.

The moral to this story is people say dumb things. Wink

My sister's SIL has four kids. When she was pregnant with #4, someone came up to her and said, "You could just tell him no". I cannot believe anyone would think it's ok to say that to someone.

Someone came up and said that to her??? What is wrong with people. I am pretty sure I might have come unglued if someone said something like that to me.

When I was pregnant...I decided that I was so happy to be pregnant after trying so long and having such a hard time with the pregnancy that I just didn't care. I was happy and I was going to eat and worry about losing the weight later. If someone had said to me..."you got twins in there"?...I might have told them to get bent. Smile

:bighug:

I have to admit that I have jokingly said it to someone who was extremely sick in the 8-10wk mark. As if they were sick for two but never any other time.

Yep...some people are just dumb and have what I call "word vomit." They just say what they are thinking and spew it out without a filter. I had a woman say "Wow! You are huge! You look like you are having twins!" when I was pregnant with the twinkles. I was actually no bigger than someone pregnant with a singleton the whole pregnancy (at least I was measuring that way....I felt huge). I looked at her and said, "Actually, I am having twins!" She shut up and walked away. I think I embarrassed her. ROFL
