Pregnancy Question...

You are 39 weeks pregnant with your first child. The pregnancy is uneventful. Your OB says they want to induce you today (39 weeks on the nose) for no other reason, than they legally can and he will be on vacation next week.

Would you do it?

No. Neither of my babies were delivered by my OB and I wouldn't do anything pregnancy related for someone elses convenience. Spoken by someone who suffered 3 days of labour followed by a c-section for failure to progress, ie. a failed induction.

No, I wouldn't. I don't like the thought/ concept of being induced without a reason! (Or a good reason)

No way! Not unless there was a reason...more than the doc was going to be on vacation.

So, who's doing this today? LOL

h*** no!

The OB is there to catch the baby. I'd rather deliver with a strange OB than conform to that demand. The nurses are what is important.

No. And a BIG fat no at that! Chances are way too high that the induction will not work and the mom would end up with a c/s.

Nope, for all the reasons stated above.

My BIL's wife is doing this as we speak.

I don't really have a lot of respect for a lot of what she does, but this takes the cake! Odds are the baby will be fine, but I cannot believe how selfish she is to do this. I hope this isn't a glimps of what kind of parents they will be, but I have the feeling it is. sigh.

These! I wouldn't do it because WHO catches the baby isn't as important to me as the baby coming when he/she is ready.

Also - your SIL is probably just tired of being pg and glad for the end.

That being said - I do welcome my 39 week repeat section in 3 months ROFL

Gah. I know it's miserable being that pregnant, but there's no way I'd do it. She's pretty much signing herself up for a c section.

Not super well. Baby is here. She's a girl 8-1 20 1/2 inches, but she is in NICU having some O2 needs.

I hate that they had to learn the hard way why it's best not to intervine unless there is a medical reason. Sad

Ugh, how frustrating to watch that happen when you just want to scream at her to do what's best for her baby. KUP.

And to answer the question. Heck no. I didn't have the luxury of having a term baby but if I had the choice then my baby(ies) would bake as long as they needed to as long as they were healthy!

No.

So sorry to hear baby is in NICU. Update us today when you can. Congrats, Aunt Amber though. She is lucky to have you for an aunt. What did they name her?

Her name is Kaylin Olivia. We'll go visit this afternoon when DH gets off work, so I'll be back with pictures. They kept her in NICU overnight, but I haven't heard anything since. Hopefully she was able to wean the O2 off through the night.

Exactly. I have never had the luxury of having term babies. NICU isn't fun at all. Sad I always tell my pregnant friends to hold out as long as possible.

I hope that the baby is doing great today.

She is out of O2 and back out with BIL and SIL now and is reported to be doing well.

I agree, NICU is not a fun place. Even for a few minutes. After 7 weeks in there with Andrew, I have a whole new appreciation for nature. You have to work with it, not try to beat it. Unessessary inductions just should not be done.

Glad to hear she's doing better. I have a friend who's just under 39 wks and is bummed her doctor didn't schedule an induction this week. And it's her third!

What a pretty name!
