PTing woes

OMG, you guys! I have created a monster with Andrew and potty training. He is doing amazing! Not one accident and only uses a diaper at sleep times. but the control this kid has over his bodily functions is impressive and really annoying! lol.

I leave his bottom half bare while we are at home, and moved the little Baby Bjorn potty chair to the living room so it's right in his eye-line. The problem is all.day.long he will sit on the potty pee a tiny amount, get super excited and we go through the routine of taking it to the bathroom, flushing the big potty and washing the potty and our hands. He likes to put the bucket back in the potty chair. The second he does, he sits, pees another small amount, and then wants to do the whole routine again. At first it was cute, but he will do this 12 times in a row- no joke! And, he'll do it with his poop too- which adds in the wiping element into the mix. If I knew he had that much control to stop midstream, I would have PT'd him a while ago.

He can do a full sitting, but apparently this is more fun. I've even stopped giving him chocolate as a reward, thinking he was working the system to get more candy. But even with just a "good job" and a high-5 he keeps doing it. I've tried telling him he, "Great job, Andrew. Now finish going pee/poop." Then leaving the potty there for him to finish, and he'll try to take it to the bathroom to do the routine himself. The last thing I want is a bucket of pee/poop spilling on the floor (even if it is just a small amount).

Okay, this really isn't that big of a problem and I'm really glad he is doing so well. I'm sure the novilty will wear off soon, but it does get old so I wanted to vent a little. Silly kid!

I wish. The girls have no interest in the potty. They like to sit on it, but they don't do anything while they are there. My hope is that they will be ready in a few months. Although, I will admit that I am not at all excited about potty training twins. So, we are not pushing too hard and I am happy to let them focus on other things right now.

We are hoping we do not have to buy a potty chair. We use a ring insert and that is really all I am willing to use unless potty training two makes it impossible. I cannot stand the idea of rinsing out and washing a potty chair. So, I can empathize with your plight. I would want to chuck that potty chair out the window! Lol

That is great that he is going on the potty but I can see how that would get old. I wonder if maybe you got him the potty seat that actually sits on the toilet, then all you would have to do is flush. I say this because Alison peed on the potty seat (Baby Bjorn potty chair) for the first time last night...and then freaked because the potty seat was dirty. "Ew, ew, ew", she kept saying. So she watched me clean it out and flush the big toilet and then she just wanted to sit on the big toilet but her butt is just too small, so I am going this weekend to get a seat that will fit directly on the toilet.

I was going to ask if you tried the big potty too! I've been told that once they get using the potty to try to switch them over to the big potty. I obviously have no personal experience, but if he takes to it at least you cut out the dumping and cleaning of the potty parts. Wink

He has no desire to sit on the big potty. He just sits there and cries. We have a toliet seat that has a child size seat built in, like this in our bathrooms.

I think he likes the freedome of being able to come and go as he pleases. But on the big potty, he needs a stool and help to get up there. He's just not big enough yet. ohs wells. I think he is just excited he is going and wants the praise. :biglaugh:

He is doing awesome!! I hope the pee-a-little at at time thing ends soon! I'm sure it will only last a few days. And we *just* started using the big potty with Miles. Of course if we're out and about shopping he'd use the bigger potty but now at home he can climb up himself using the stool so it's nice that I can just send him in there by himself if I'm busy with Vivian.

PS I'm sending Miles over to your house. Can you have Andrew show him how to poop on the potty? Wink

He really is doing great! I am jealous, even though I am not ready to put in the time with the girls. Biggrin I know it is annoying to clean the potty though. I am sure the novelty will wear off in a little bit and he will stop going just a little at a time. Write it in his baby book and have a good laugh about it when he is older. Biggrin

S knows when she has to poop, but refuses to sit on a potty to do it. We are not going to force her, but it is so frustrating. We try to make it sound all fun, but she will not have it. Sad Keira will only sit for like 1 second and then she is "all done."

That's awesome! Made me laugh although I know if it was me doing that 12 times a day I'd be trying to figure out how to get him to go all at once. What a cutie that kid is!

Ashley- I think you 3 should come visit me so we can work on this! I can't promise results, but you should visit all the same! We're getting ready to be dumped on in a snowstorm, so next week? Wink
