Speaking of hydration - how much are your lo's drinking each day roughly?

M has been having juice (usually with half water if it isn't a juice box) every day for quite awhile because I can't get him to drink enough water (right now it's impossible to get him to drink water most of the time). Milk he still does okay with most of the time but some days he definitely doesn't drink as much of it as others.

My kiddos get a 8oz cup of milk with each meal and a sippy of water thru the day. Some days I fill up the water cup several times and others it hardly gets touched.

I don't drink anything other than water, so I never think to give the kids anything else. Andrew does get prune juice when he gets backed up, which he things is the greatest thing ever!

It varies daily. J gets a cup of milk with breakfast and dinner. Sometimes he finishes it, some days he doesn't touch it. During the day, he will drink a minimum of 1-2 cups of water, OJ, and/or apple juice (I also water down the juice). We do lemonade or popsicles on really hot days.

Miles drinks a ton of fluids. He's always been really into drinking things. He gets milk with each meal and with a snack before bed. He gets juice 1x a day - I mix Apple Juice w/a container of baby food fruit or just pureed fruit (since he's such a picky eater). He also loves water and drinks lots of that especially when it's hot and we're outside a lot.

Alicia and DJ won't drink milk unless its chocolate. They usually get one sippy cup a day of "beige" milk...I only add a few drops. They drink 1/5 juice to water and will drink anywhere from 3-6 sippy cups a day, depending on the day. They get juice or milk with meals...depends on the day. Both my kids would rather drink than eat.
One thing that's been a big hit here lately is ice water. They love ice.

Up to 3 cups of milk, and probably a cup of water, more or less. It's not as hot here tho.

UGH - same here. My mom started giving my niece and Deacon chocolate milk and now that's the only thing he will ever drink. I had to switch to Ovaltine just to feel better about giving it to him. He usually gets 2-3 sippy cups a day of it. Yesterday he did have water and grape juice so that was a nice surprise. At daycare he drinks water and juice.

Funny enough, I had a conversation with a dietician at my hosptial and she said that chocolate milk was better than juice. A bit of extra sugar in the milk was better than the empty calories of most juices. So, I don't feel guilty about it...its the only way I can get milk into Alicia at all, she doesn't like to drink it...same as mama.

Nicole - thanks for that info. I do feel a little guilty, even when I buy the reduced sugar one and the added calcium one. Good to know its not that bad for him.
