How is everyone? What's going on with you? Most of our new posts lately have been the RQ's with a few occasional other ones here and there. Thought it'd be a good time to start a thread where we can all catch up. Spill! How are you?
Hey Julie. I'm glad you started this thread I'm fine. We're offiically foster parents now, although we don't have a full-time child yet. We've done a couple of respites and hope to be matched soon. I'm busy at work, school starts soon so I'm busy with class lists and TAs and publishing my lab manual. We've gutted the main bathroom at home and are working on getting that put back together. So far I've done all the plumbing and my Dad did the electrical, we put in the new bathtub and are working on the drywall. We had the roof done a couple of weeks ago and while it was being done, we had a skylight put in the bathroom - there were no windows in it so it made a HUGE difference. Alicia and DJ are doing fantastic. DJ has recently potty trained. We used matchbox type cars as rewards (bags of them from value village) so we have about 300 little cars underfoot Alicia starts JK in the fall, so we are gearing up for that immediately after our holiday. We are going to Algonquin park for a week of camping at the end of August. Can't wait!
So, what's new with everyone else?

Currently I'm back home visiting family for a long weekend. Drove the 14 hours yesterday with my SIL and her two boys (they just live an hour from me, so it was nice to go together). DH is going to be gone this weekend TDY (business trip), so it was good timing for me to take off too. After two hours of swimming in my ILs pool today, Aiden can now dog paddle with arm floaties halfway across their pool in about a minute. Good grief this kid is taking off! I bet he'd be doing a lot more if he had regular pool access in NC.
In another month I'll know if we're staying in NC or if we're moving coming December/January. A bit nerve wracking! Moving is good for DH's career, but staying is better for the family so I'm torn.
Ugggg! This is the thrid time I've typed out a post for this thread. Let's hope this one works, otherwise I'm giving up.
Nicole- Congrats on becoming a foster family! I think you'll be wonderful for that!
Jackie- Yay for Aiden swimming so well! Sounds like he is a little fish! Good luck with whatever the future brings for you guys and your next chapter. Do you know where you might move to if you have to leave?
I think you all saw the picture of Ava with her new haircut yesterday. the little stinker! It's my fault she cut her own hair. Andew wanted to play outside and I left Ava alone for a few minutes. She was busy making invitations to her birthday party. And by that I mean, she had a bunch of construction paper that she was taping, coloring and putting stickers on. She is always so responsible for a 3 yr old. She always asks before doing new activities. But some how she found her little scissors and gave herself a trim. She also cut her little snow white dress up dress into confetii. That she is going to be really sad about. It was beyond repair and had to go in the trash. Good lesson for me too. Her haircut is super cute though! I really like it.
I saw the pictures and it is a super cute haircut! Glad it wasn't a complete scissor disaster.
Nicole - Yay for becoming a foster family! And yay for DJ being potty trained!!! Is JK - junior kindergarten? or preschool?
Jackie - How fun that Aidan likes to swim! Trevor is my daredevil and tries to swim on his own in our spa. He worries me when we go to the beach b/c he wants to go in the water all the time (waves and rip currents freak me out with little ones!) The other day at the beach he said he was going in the water and just started walking as if he were going to go in alone.... he then turned and reached for my hand. Silly boy.
Amber - I can't imagine how I would have responded if one of my boys cut their hair! But her new cut looks fantastic! Sorry about her dress though.
My summer vacation is over It's been so wonderful being home with my boys. We didn't go on a big vacation, but at ages 1 and 4, there is so much to do here locally, that we were keeping very busy! J is doing great in his new class and he is doing great with his swimming (he's learned the freestyle, backstroke and is now working on the breaststroke!). He's also taking piano lessons and t-ball will start next month. T will start his first sports class next month. T turns 2 in less than a month!! I can't believe it.
Mommy to 2 amazing little boys!
Angel babies 6/9/07 & 11/16/07
Nicole, that's awesome DJ is potty trained! It sounds like your bathroom is coming along quickly!
Jackie, you're brave to be in the car for 14 hours w/3 young kids!
Amber, I LOVE Ava's new haircut!! So adorable!
Cali, it sounds like you guys keep very busy! Can't believe T will be 2 already. What are you planning for his party?
The kids have been keeping me busy. Vivi is a busy body. She's 8 months now. She crawls everywhere. She also pulls up to standing position and loves to walk w/assistance. She's starting to eat some table food now...although she isn't a big eater yet. Miles is just Miles! TBall is over now so we've just been hanging out at home and having a few playdates here and there.
Hi all! Sorry I have been MIA all summer. I always swear that I will check in once a week, but I stay off my computer a lot during the summer. We had a good summer, although very trying. The twins are so cute and adorable, but they are really independent and were frequently attempting to give up their naps, even though it was obvious that they were not ready. There is something about having a built-in playmate that makes napping such a bore. We had a lot of trials with taking off diapers and peeing or pooping in their cribs, and writing with poop on the walls. The girls had to wear sleepers that were put on backward, and even Sarafina got out of that once!!! Needless to say, going back to work has been more relaxing than my summer. On a positive note, the girls really enjoyed the pool this summer. With the heat, we did not go quite as much as I wanted. Somedays, I was just too tired to get everyone into their suits and go roast in 100 degree heat. Isaiah even had a swim meet on a day when it reached 106. Wow, was that hot!!! We still have some pool time left, so I hope to get the kids there a few more times. Of course, it is now only in the 70s or 80s (in August in the midwest, that is kind of abnormal).
Isaiah was on swim team at our pool again this summer. I always forget how tiring it is with daily practices and meets twice a week. He enjoys it quite a bit. Isaiah goes back to school on Wednesday. We went back and forth about what to do about school this year. His anxiety ramped up as soon as we started buying school supplies and he had been near tears for about 3 weeks. That did it for me. I called his school and asked for a meeting with the principal. I plan to discuss the possibility of changing classes since he loops with the same teacher this year, and he brought up bullying by a student in his class (again...this has been a theme with this same kid since K). I feel the current environment is not healthy for him. I am not sure how the school will respond, but I think we have a pretty good case.
Nicole- Congrats on becoming a foster parent!
Jackie- I hope the trip is going well. I cannot believe Aiden swims so well. Of course, Sarafina is terrified of anything, but the baby pool. Keira loves the water, but with twins, I cannot always spend time with her in the water. We plan to start formal swim lessons in the spring after the girls turn 3.
Amber- Sorry to hear about the haircut. I escaped that with Isaiah, but I have a feeling it will happen with one or both of the girls. I actually forsee them cutting each other's hair. Yikes!
Cali - That does sound like a busy summer. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Nicole, that is great about the foster parenting! You'll have to let us know how that goes. And I cannot believe all the work you are doing on your house. You must be exhausted.
Jackie, it's crazy to think about you all moving again. All I can say is I probably wouldn't even be unpacked by then... That's awesome about Aiden swimming too. I'm so sad that I had to stop Jordan's swim lessons due to my morning sickness. She loved it.
Amber, Ava's haircut is really adorable. I actually has made me consider cutting Jordan's hair shorter b/c she gets such bad tangles. I think her hair is still a little to fine for that cut though.
Geez Cali, you are so busy! I also cannot believe that T will be 2 already. That's just crazy.
Ashley, I have to tell you how much I love the pictures you post of your kids on FB. They are so cute!
Melanie, I hear you on the whole nap thing. Jordan does not nap for me most days but you can clearly see how tired she is. I do what I can to get her to nap but most days she spends all of her nap time just talking away in her room. I also hope you get something worked out for Isaiah. I know that must be on your mind a lot.
As for us, we are still trying to get settled. There are messes in some areas that have been there since we moved in. We also have some boxes that are still taped up and sitting around. I'm just so tired that when I do have time to unpack, I don't want to. Nora has been a pretty easy baby so far. She does get fussy and likes to be held but we are always able to console her which is a huge deal. Poor Jordan was inconsolable so much of the time and that was tough. Speaking of Jordan, she's still keeping us on her toes. Like she has from day one! I love her personality but it's a tough kind to parent for sure.
