How is everyone? What's going on with you? Most of our new posts lately have been the RQ's with a few occasional other ones here and there. Thought it'd be a good time to start a thread where we can all catch up. Spill! How are you?

Hey Julie. I'm glad you started this thread Smile I'm fine. We're offiically foster parents now, although we don't have a full-time child yet. We've done a couple of respites and hope to be matched soon. I'm busy at work, school starts soon so I'm busy with class lists and TAs and publishing my lab manual. We've gutted the main bathroom at home and are working on getting that put back together. So far I've done all the plumbing and my Dad did the electrical, we put in the new bathtub and are working on the drywall. We had the roof done a couple of weeks ago and while it was being done, we had a skylight put in the bathroom - there were no windows in it so it made a HUGE difference. Alicia and DJ are doing fantastic. DJ has recently potty trained. We used matchbox type cars as rewards (bags of them from value village) so we have about 300 little cars underfoot Wink Alicia starts JK in the fall, so we are gearing up for that immediately after our holiday. We are going to Algonquin park for a week of camping at the end of August. Can't wait!

So, what's new with everyone else?

Nicole

Yay Nicole! Smile

Currently I'm back home visiting family for a long weekend. Drove the 14 hours yesterday with my SIL and her two boys (they just live an hour from me, so it was nice to go together). DH is going to be gone this weekend TDY (business trip), so it was good timing for me to take off too. After two hours of swimming in my ILs pool today, Aiden can now dog paddle with arm floaties halfway across their pool in about a minute. Good grief this kid is taking off! I bet he'd be doing a lot more if he had regular pool access in NC.
In another month I'll know if we're staying in NC or if we're moving coming December/January. A bit nerve wracking! Moving is good for DH's career, but staying is better for the family so I'm torn.

Ugggg! This is the thrid time I've typed out a post for this thread. Let's hope this one works, otherwise I'm giving up.

Nicole- Congrats on becoming a foster family! I think you'll be wonderful for that!

Jackie- Yay for Aiden swimming so well! Sounds like he is a little fish! Good luck with whatever the future brings for you guys and your next chapter. Do you know where you might move to if you have to leave?

I think you all saw the picture of Ava with her new haircut yesterday. the little stinker! It's my fault she cut her own hair. Andew wanted to play outside and I left Ava alone for a few minutes. She was busy making invitations to her birthday party. And by that I mean, she had a bunch of construction paper that she was taping, coloring and putting stickers on. She is always so responsible for a 3 yr old. She always asks before doing new activities. But some how she found her little scissors and gave herself a trim. She also cut her little snow white dress up dress into confetii. That she is going to be really sad about. It was beyond repair and had to go in the trash. Good lesson for me too. Her haircut is super cute though! I really like it. Smile

I saw the pictures and it is a super cute haircut! Glad it wasn't a complete scissor disaster.

Nicole - Yay for becoming a foster family! And yay for DJ being potty trained!!! Is JK - junior kindergarten? or preschool?

Jackie - How fun that Aidan likes to swim! Trevor is my daredevil and tries to swim on his own in our spa. He worries me when we go to the beach b/c he wants to go in the water all the time (waves and rip currents freak me out with little ones!) The other day at the beach he said he was going in the water and just started walking as if he were going to go in alone.... he then turned and reached for my hand. Silly boy.

Amber - I can't imagine how I would have responded if one of my boys cut their hair! But her new cut looks fantastic! Sorry about her dress though.

My summer vacation is over Sad It's been so wonderful being home with my boys. We didn't go on a big vacation, but at ages 1 and 4, there is so much to do here locally, that we were keeping very busy! J is doing great in his new class and he is doing great with his swimming (he's learned the freestyle, backstroke and is now working on the breaststroke!). He's also taking piano lessons and t-ball will start next month. T will start his first sports class next month. T turns 2 in less than a month!! I can't believe it.

Nicole, that's awesome DJ is potty trained! It sounds like your bathroom is coming along quickly!

Jackie, you're brave to be in the car for 14 hours w/3 young kids!

Amber, I LOVE Ava's new haircut!! So adorable!

Cali, it sounds like you guys keep very busy! Can't believe T will be 2 already. What are you planning for his party?

The kids have been keeping me busy. Vivi is a busy body. She's 8 months now. She crawls everywhere. She also pulls up to standing position and loves to walk w/assistance. She's starting to eat some table food now...although she isn't a big eater yet. Miles is just Miles! TBall is over now so we've just been hanging out at home and having a few playdates here and there.

Hi all! Sorry I have been MIA all summer. I always swear that I will check in once a week, but I stay off my computer a lot during the summer. Smile We had a good summer, although very trying. The twins are so cute and adorable, but they are really independent and were frequently attempting to give up their naps, even though it was obvious that they were not ready. There is something about having a built-in playmate that makes napping such a bore. We had a lot of trials with taking off diapers and peeing or pooping in their cribs, and writing with poop on the walls. The girls had to wear sleepers that were put on backward, and even Sarafina got out of that once!!! Needless to say, going back to work has been more relaxing than my summer. On a positive note, the girls really enjoyed the pool this summer. With the heat, we did not go quite as much as I wanted. Somedays, I was just too tired to get everyone into their suits and go roast in 100 degree heat. Isaiah even had a swim meet on a day when it reached 106. Wow, was that hot!!! We still have some pool time left, so I hope to get the kids there a few more times. Of course, it is now only in the 70s or 80s (in August in the midwest, that is kind of abnormal).

Isaiah was on swim team at our pool again this summer. I always forget how tiring it is with daily practices and meets twice a week. He enjoys it quite a bit. Isaiah goes back to school on Wednesday. We went back and forth about what to do about school this year. His anxiety ramped up as soon as we started buying school supplies and he had been near tears for about 3 weeks. That did it for me. I called his school and asked for a meeting with the principal. I plan to discuss the possibility of changing classes since he loops with the same teacher this year, and he brought up bullying by a student in his class (again...this has been a theme with this same kid since K). I feel the current environment is not healthy for him. I am not sure how the school will respond, but I think we have a pretty good case.

Nicole- Congrats on becoming a foster parent! Smile

Jackie- I hope the trip is going well. I cannot believe Aiden swims so well. Of course, Sarafina is terrified of anything, but the baby pool. Keira loves the water, but with twins, I cannot always spend time with her in the water. We plan to start formal swim lessons in the spring after the girls turn 3.

Amber- Sorry to hear about the haircut. I escaped that with Isaiah, but I have a feeling it will happen with one or both of the girls. I actually forsee them cutting each other's hair. Yikes!

Cali - That does sound like a busy summer. I am glad you enjoyed it.

What a swimmer Aiden is! Cute! So glad you didn't have to make the drive alone.

Amazing how time is flying! Can't wait to hear more about the bday party you are planning for them! 8 months ----> 1 yr will fly by.

Nicole, that is great about the foster parenting! You'll have to let us know how that goes. And I cannot believe all the work you are doing on your house. You must be exhausted.

Jackie, it's crazy to think about you all moving again. All I can say is I probably wouldn't even be unpacked by then... That's awesome about Aiden swimming too. I'm so sad that I had to stop Jordan's swim lessons due to my morning sickness. Sad She loved it.

Amber, Ava's haircut is really adorable. I actually has made me consider cutting Jordan's hair shorter b/c she gets such bad tangles. I think her hair is still a little to fine for that cut though.

Geez Cali, you are so busy! I also cannot believe that T will be 2 already. That's just crazy.

Ashley, I have to tell you how much I love the pictures you post of your kids on FB. They are so cute!

Melanie, I hear you on the whole nap thing. Jordan does not nap for me most days but you can clearly see how tired she is. I do what I can to get her to nap but most days she spends all of her nap time just talking away in her room. I also hope you get something worked out for Isaiah. I know that must be on your mind a lot.

As for us, we are still trying to get settled. There are messes in some areas that have been there since we moved in. We also have some boxes that are still taped up and sitting around. I'm just so tired that when I do have time to unpack, I don't want to. Nora has been a pretty easy baby so far. She does get fussy and likes to be held but we are always able to console her which is a huge deal. Poor Jordan was inconsolable so much of the time and that was tough. Speaking of Jordan, she's still keeping us on her toes. Like she has from day one! I love her personality but it's a tough kind to parent for sure.

Boy, some of y'alls summer recounts exhaust me just by reading them! lol.

Melanie, definitely KUP about Isaiah!

I survived the trip back. It was enjoyable at least. Unfortunately our first day home was with the power being out for 8.5 hours yesterday. NOT FUN. Blum 3

Bummer about the power! Sad That is not fun.

Kayla- I am glad to know I am not the only one battling naps, but it is sure is frustrating. I need to check out a book about sprited personalities again. Keira is my spiritied one and I need to try some new things with her.

Here is an update about Isaiah: The school did not want to move him from his current class because their class lists were set. I figured that might be the case, but I had to at least have dialogue with the school about it and about my concerns. I let them know about my concerns related to bullying and that I felt there was a personality conflict with his teacher. I did say good things about his teacher though. I did let the teacher and the administration know that I was against moving his desk this year, as I feel it made him vulnerable to teasing last year. I also asked for a meeting to discuss a plan for making sure Isaiah feels more confident and secure this year. His teacher did e-mail me last night (school started today) and let me know that she would keep an eye on the boy who Isaiah had a conflict with last year. We shall see how it goes. I suspected some bullying last year, but could get Isaiah to really talk to me about it. Thank goodness he is in counseling. He trusted his counselor enough to open up about it. Whether it was real or perceived, we can now find ways to address it.

My girls are trying to adjust back to a school/daycare schedule. The past two day have been so trying. They are so tired in the morning because they are not used to getting up early and are exhausted in the evenings. They just cry and fuss when we get home even when I ply them with snacks and drinks. They miss me too, which is part of it. Last night, I put them in the bath at 6 and put them to bed at 7. We will be back to a routine soon, I hope.

Kayla, if you ever have any free time ( Lol ) we'd love a tour of your new home!

Melanie, I'm sorry they weren't willing to switch classes. Hopefully the teacher will keep a close eye and put a stop to something before it starts this year. I hope the girls settle into a schedule soon! That's gotta be rough. You sound so busy!

Jackie, why was the power out so long?

Anybody have any fun plans this weekend?
My parents are coming to watch the kids while we go out to dinner tonight. Not sure where we'll go yet.

Hey all!

Cali, sounds like Jake is a little fish! I cannot believe he's learning the breast stroke...we aren't even dog paddling yet!

Jackie, sorry about the power outage. When will you find out if you are moving again?

Melanie, sorry that they won't move him. hope this year is better and his anxiety is less. Sounds like he's doing great on the swim team though. Hope the girls schedule settle soon and you can relax a bit.

Julie, What's new with M&M?

My BIL is getting married this weekend. DJ is the ring bearer, Alicia is the flower girl and DH is the best man. I just have to get everyone there and stay sane. Family and friends are providing the food - so far I've made 10 lbs of potato salad and am making a tomato/boccocini tomorrow morning. DSDs are staying o/n after the wedding and DH is picking them up at 7 tomorrow morning. If they won't be ready, then their mother is going to have to drop them off...we just cannot do it! The wedding is in MILs yard, and she is about to go out of her mind - soon to be SIL's family hasn't done a ding dang thing about this wedding so its all fallen on her. I should have some good stories next week!.

I have no idea why the power was out other than it was scheduled by the base a couple of weeks ago. And no idea when we'll find out about orders other than sometime in the next month.....hopefully. Blum 3

Since it's supposed to rain tomorrow afternoon, I convinced DH to go to Raleigh so Aiden can play in their awesome Marbles museum. This place is fantastic for toddlers through school age! Even better it's just $4 a person.

Nicole, sounds like an interesting weekend! Hope it all goes smoothly. Smile

Oh boy, Nicole. Hope today goes well. Can't wait to hear about the wedding. Hope the stress melts away from everyone the moment it starts!

Thanks for asking about the boys. They are good. Always making me laugh. Matthew is crazy for an 18mnth old. Loves to get into EVERYTHING. He runs like crazy and climbs everything indoors and out. Then he likes to jump off. Michael is fun and I'm loving his imagination right now. I swear the other day he asked me 430 questions in 2 minutes. Wink Wants to know EVERYTHING. Yesterday I said "you are asking a lot of questions..." (in a fun way) and he said "I'm working on my education." LOL. Where he got that from I'm not sure! Smile

I'll try to catch up on this thread!

We've had a stressful few weeks. T had a very high fever for 5-6 days and was really sick. We had a few visits to the doctor, x-rays, and bloodwork until the pedi called me very late at night telling us that T had abnormal b/w Sad We had to go to the ER and had many more tests taken including more b/w and urine test (I hope no one ever has to see their baby get a cathater! oh my!) We still don't know exactly what was/is going on with him. They did rule out things like meningitis and kawasaki's...and was shocked to hear them talk about cancer (thankfully the numbers are not consistent with that!) Because his wbc count and other proteins were very high, we are guessing that he may have had a bacterial blood infection. With some antibiotic treatments (we're also giving oral meds), he is now fever free. He's now suffering from a tummy ache/ diaper rash from the meds. He's been a trooper through this whole thing, but when he sees a dr or nurse, he tells them "no owies" and points to the door telling me to go "that way" for "bye bye" Sad J's been struggling a bit with this whole thing as he witnessed the initial b/w and x-ray and he asks people not to hurt his brother.... We have a few more days of the antibiotic and I'm hoping everyone is healthy... but now T woke up with a runny nose! If he gets another fever I have to take him back in....

Marbles Museum is just a children's museum. No marbles. lol. It has a lot there for crawling babies through elementary school. It's fantastic! I even saw a few middle school kids having fun there Saturday! Aiden loves their play ambulance and firetruck, their water play area, their pirate ship you can climb, and this huge indoor loopy slide. Kid runs around like a maniac for 3 hours every time we're there. Though I only go on Saturdays when DH can join us because it's crowded (at that price and as much as they have, of course it is! lol) and Aiden goes faster than I can go! lol

The Marbles Museum looks pretty neat. Indianapolis has a wonderful children's museum. It is supposedly the biggest in the country. I am hoping to renew our membership there this year. It currently has a cool Hot Wheels exhibit. A Lego exhibit just left. It has a great toddler play area and Isaiah loved the dinosaur area, which was phenomenal. He still calls it the "dinosaur museum." Biggrin

T is still really sick. If you could say any prayers/ positive thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it. I logged on this morning so that I could ask for some support. i am seriously a train wreck right now. In the middle of T's antibiotic treatment, T developed cold symptoms. A week later, he started vomitting and having really messy diapers. He woke up this morning lethargic and he only wants "night night". He is complaining of a tummy ache. He is sweating, but has no fever (his temp is actually low).

I'm hoping the dr just says it's a virus, but after our hospital trip, I've been so scared that it is something else. Why is my little boy continiously getting sick? He's been sick for 3 weeks now.

Thank you for your prayers. The doc wasn't able to give us any answers. He suspects maybe this is just another illness on top of the last infection he had. We have to wait and see and hope that the symptoms improve.... Mel, hope Thursday goes well!

As for me, still sick. I feel like I'm living in a fog. One with a horrible cough, sore throat, and constant sneezing. Not like I can take much of anything to help me survive. Yesterday was a super long day since DH was gone for 14.5 hours. I'm panicking about tomorrow because there's no way I'm going to be well enough to go anywhere and we have a scheduled power outage for 5-8 hours (last time they said 8 hours and it was 9.5!). No idea what I'm going to do for Aiden since all I want to do is lay down. Poor kid watched countless episodes of Sesame Street yesterday. Not to mention what the heck am I going to feed him and me? My SIL said I could go to her house for the day, but there's no way I can make that hour drive. I don't even trust myself enough to drive the 3 minutes to the commissary. Ugh. Sorry for all the whining.

Jackie, I'm sorry you are so sick! I hope you feel better soon!

Mel, let us know how the meeting goes!

T is doing a little better today.... he ate some breakfast, he's currently eating a snack, and he's trying to play (well... it's more like play, let mommy hold me, play, let mommy hold me....).... improvement from yesterday. I was worried last night that he was spiking a fever, but luckily he never did. He woke up at 1am, screaming, and saying "owie", so I brought him to bed with me.... he slept well the rest of the night. I hope he keeps improving.

As for us, we have a meeting with the assistant principal at Isaiah's school on Thursday. Please keep us in your thoughts. I feel like I am stuck in some school soap opera.

I hope it goes well tomorrow, Melanie. Update us when you can. Thinking of you!

I hope you are feeling a bit better today, Jackie. What is with the scheduled power outages. What are they doing that they last that long?

I hope the power outage is at the short side of that timeline. Ugh.

Our a/c is out. We had someone in yesterday, and our unit was frozen. So, we let it thaw. It still does not work. So, they need to come back. Not sure when. Blah!

As for Halloween, I have no idea. I need ideas! Throw them out there. Isaiah wants to be Captain America. I thought dressing up our entire family as characters from Phineas and Ferb would be cute, but Craig didn't want to dress up. Lol

Boo to no a/c! Sad That's the big issue I have right now with all these power outages! But we have power right now!!! Hoping it stays on. Blum 3 Supposed to be out twice next week (wed and thurs). ugh.

As far as Halloween goes, Aiden is going to be a skeleton. I have one of those pregnancy skeleton shirts from my best friend (she wore it last year), so he gets to match me. Poor kid. lol. DH will be gone then, so no costume for him.
Yeah, found out last night DH will be gone Oct 30-Nov 10th. Really need this baby to bake for 40-41 weeks! If she's like her brother though this won't be a problem. lol

Cali, I hope he's feeling even better today!

Mel, update us on your meeting!?!

Jackie, ACK! That's cutting it super close. Sad Any chance he could be able to come home incase you went into labor while he's gone?

Miles wants to be a shark. I hope he doesn't change his mind because I started working on his costume today. I'm a freak, I know. ROFL I think I'm going to dress Vivi as a ghost (a cute ghost Biggrin ).

Morning ladies Smile

Jackie, I hope Zoe stays put!!!!

Cali, how is T?

Mel, updates on Isiah?

Hallowe'en: Alicia wants to be a princess (surprize surprize) and DJ wants to be a pirate. We already own several princess dresses and a pirate hat, so it should be easy enough. I think I'm going to make DJ a vest with a little parrot sewn on top. Otherwise I think we are probably good to go. Depends on the weather though...if its super cold, I'm going to need a bigger princess dress to go over her coat.

Augh! Forgot to update here - they changed DH's TDY dates! For the better! Now he'll be leaving at the end of November - 2 days past my "cut off!" So he will be here for birth, just not sure much past that. But I'll take it. Grandparents can come visit to help me out. Wink

Jackie - That is great news! Yay!

As for an update (without turning it into a book)- I talked with the assistant principal about my concerns that the school climate was negative. She told me some things they were doing to improve on that. Not enough, IMO, but I know that change is a hard concept in schools sometimes. We also expressed our concerns related to teasing and wanting more emotional support for Isaiah this year. She listened and we came up with a few ideas. I left feeling unsatisfied. However, I think what I really want is an apology, and that won't happen. I had a parent call me late last week about their child telling them that Isaiah is being teased by one particular boy in his class. I communicated that information with the school. I plan to call the parents of the boy also. I hope that goes well. The best part (insert sarcasm here) is that the assistant principal asked me if Isaiah interprets facial cues and body language. She said that because Isaiah told her that the boy who was teasing him told him he did a math problem wrong. She asked Isaiah earlier in the day what this kid says to him. He was just telling her. He is still trying to figure out what is a problem with this boy and what might be typical. And, if someone teased you, would you like it if they told you that you did something wrong? Anyway, I won't write a book. Isaiah is more relaxed and back to his usual self this school year. My plan is to keep it that way. My plan is also to keep from having to have any more meetings with the school this year. *fingers crossed*

As for Halloween, I have no idea. Isaiah says he wants to be Captain America. I am not sure if he will stick with that or not. I need to get started on looking at costumes. My MIL said she could make a CA costume for Isaiah, but I hate to actually ask her. She is really busy with actual paying customers, and I hate to take away that time.

Ugh. Still getting orders tonight, but got some bad new regarding DH and training. Don't want to talk about it, but could definitely use some prayers through Wednesday. Sad

Jackie --- :bigarmhug: T&P's coming your way.....

Mel --- how frustrating!!!! I hope the plan you implement, including calling the other boys' parents, helps alleviate some of what is going on.

Mel, I'm glad that Isaiah has been more relaxed and his usual self so far this school year. I hope that continues!!

Nicole, cute idea to sew a parrot to DJ's shoulder for his costume!

I finished making Miles' shark costume today, and got a start on Vivi's costume. I ran out of white tulle for hers though so it'll have to wait until I make it to the craft store.

Jackie, hope everything goes in your guys' favor on Wednesday! Are you feeling better yet?

Jackie, I didn't see this before, I'm sorr that things aren't going your way. I hope that everything looks up on Wednesday.
Mel, glad to hear things are looking better for Isiah.

I'm exhausted. 6 hours straight of teaching after the summer off is tiring!

Thanks ladies. I friggin' hate the USAF sometimes and this is one of those times. Just trying not to freak myself out in the meantime. Wink
I am feeling MUCH better! Still have a slight cough, but each day it's better and better. No more hacking! Woo hoo.

Y'all need to show off these costumes when y'all are done! Biggrin

Jackie - :bigarmhug: I am sorry things are so stressful with everything. I know that being a military wife cannot be easy. I cannot imagine all the moving around and not knowing where you will be stationed next. I think you do such a good job handling all of it so well. I am glad you are feeling better. I think there is nothing worse than being sick while pregnant, except maybe being sick with a newborn.

Well it was mixed news and I wasn't able to put it all together until today. Still don't have any definite answers, but we're feeling positive that things are going to get back on track. Hopefully we can do some celebrating tomorrow night cause we'll have the answer we want - that we're staying here and continuing on as we want. Even people who know all the details are confused as to how this is going on, but whatever. It is what it is. I'm not freaking out anymore, but definitely nervous!
