RQOTD - Monday

Have you ever gone to a book signing? For which author/book? Do you ever read work from local authors in your area?

Well, my answer is boring. No and no.

Yes. Diana Galbadon did a reading and signing in my home town, so I went to that. I've also been to several at the university for our authors and a couple of friends who are published writers.

Gosh, it's so bad that I don't make the time to read anymore. The only books I seem to buy are work/ kid related and I only seem to skim through those.

As far as book signings go, I have gone to a few. I went to a national conference a few years ago and got Goldie Hawn's book/autograph (she has done some work that focuses on mental health/ children). I also went to a book signing for DH and got a book/autograph of a MLB player who is from the area. I have Martha Stewarts as well from a local book signing.

I can say no and no. I love to read, but I am not really interested in a book signing. I would rather just get your book from the library and read it. Smile

Cali- I need to buy Goldie Hawn's "10 Mindful Minutes" to use with Isaiah. I checked it out from the library, but it is in such high demand that I could not really get out of it what I wanted. It was a worthwhile read. I thought it was very good for kids and adults alike.

She spoke at the NASP conference 4-5 years ago. This is when I first learned of her foundation and what they were doing in the field of mental health for kids. She has a research based counseling curriculum that has also been recommended to me. I think I will look more into that when I get my budget for next school year.

I remember when she spoke at NASP. I did not go, as I cannot afford NASP. Sad My school cannot pay a dime and I cannot justify that much money. The last NASP convention I attended was in Chicago. I could afford that. Although, I hear that NASP will be in Orlando in like 2015 or 2016. I think we will be saving for that one. Smile I have attended two NASP conventions (1998 and 2002 -- I presented in 1998 and had a poster presentation in 2002) and the APA convention ( I also presented at this one). My hope is that I can add more someday. No more presentations though. I do not have the time to put any of that together now.

She was in Anaheim that year, which is pretty close to me! You've been to quite a few. I'm actually attending CASP later this week. This is the first time ever my district is paying for us to go. The theme is mental health services and due to our state giving the districts mental health funding, our director justified the cost to send a few of us to the conference. I've never been to an APA convention. I can only justify going when they're within driving distance. I like the idea of going to Orlando! That is way out of my budget though. And if I flew across country, to be honest, I wouldn't want to go to the conference! I'd prefer to take the kids to Disney! Smile

Well, Disney would be the plan. Biggrin I would probably take some personal days to add onto the trip in order to spend time at Disney. Since we are pretty familiar with Disney, we could do the things we wanted to do in that amount of time. The issue would be being able to afford the airfare to Orlando for all 5 of us! Yikes! I can only imagine the cost from CA to FL.
