What type of bug do you see the most where you live?
This year we have these annoying Boxelder bugs. They are these little black and orange bugs. Before this year, I have never seem them before. I actually had to google them to find out what they were. They are everywhere outside. Two of my neighbors removed large trees this summer, so I'm guessing they came from those and are trying to find a new home? I hope they do not surive the winter and are not back next year.
We are not too buggy here compaired to other places since we're so dry. We most commonly see bees, flies, and spiders.
Ants, bees, and spiders are the most common insects around here. Spiders are more prevalent this year thanks to the drought. Boo for that. I like that spiders eat other insects, but I hate cleaning up the webs...or...ack!!!...walking into a web.
Amber - I've never heard of the boxelder bug. I'll have to google them to see a picture.
Wasps seem to be everywhere this year. The mosquitos are bad, too. But just the regular bugs. Flies, bees, mosquitos, spiders. Yuck.
Amber - in the fall we get Boxelder Bugs TERRIBLE. Those and Asian Beetles. I know the beetles like the bean fields...and we have bean fields right next to our yard. I'm sure we'll start seeing them in a couple weeks. We have to spray for them they get so bad inside our house even...it's nasty. But once we started spraying a few years ago they don't make it in the house anymore.
We see lots of wasps these days. And daddy long legs. yuck.
Ash, I'm so glad they have not made it into my house, but once you step outside there are everywhere! They took over Ava's little playhouse andd she refuses to use it anymore. Google says they are just an annoyance and don't do any harm to anything, and they live off of female Maple trees. But they hang around all the trees it seems. My Ash and my Blue spruce have a swarms around them. I spray them every time I see big groups of them hanging around.
We do have a Maple tree in our yeard. I have no idea if it's female or not, but I'd be willing to lose the tree if needed to get rid of the bugs. the tree is pushing up our driveway anyways. So those bugs may have numbered it's days.
This year we've had several black widows around outside too. I've gotten pretty good at reconizing their webs and I'm always on the search for them now. I found that dumping boiling water on them is a excellent way to kill them without having to get too close. We need to have a bug guy out to spray before Fall comes around.
Black Widow? ACK!
Bug? How about BugS. We have tons of fire ants around us. Jason said we should invest in fire ant killer stock at this point. We also have lots of grasshoppers, crickets and wolf spiders (YUCK YUCK YUCK). Rollie pollies think my back porch is a place to come and die. I'm constantly sweeping them out into the grass or they crunch under our shoes.
Jason has killed three Black Widows since we moved into our house. Three! Thankfully, they were all outside.
Flies. :p Also see tons of ants and spiders here. No idea what kinds I'm seeing other than they're creepy and totally not what I've seen before (not even in TN).
Spiders (we live on the lake so no surprise there), mosquitoes and house flies. Fortunately, with our cold winters, most of the ickies don't live here :)
