RQOTD - Thursday

Do you plant a garden at your home? If so, what do you put in it? Who does all of the tending to it?

I do not do a big garden, just a few pots here and there. Usually tomatoes and green beans...I have herbs growing year round either outside or in little pots in my kitchen so that I can always have fresh ones for cooking. This year I will have a pot for peppers though.

I have a black thumb. I kill everything. I would love to have a very small garden for eggplant and herbs. However, I know I would kill everything. We cannot have any plants in our house because our cats eat them. One of our cats is a climber, so we have to put them up really high. The problem with that is they get limited sunlight. So, I just opt to never have plants in our house. I do some puttering with flowers, but I am not good with pulling weeds. Hopefully, this year I can do a little more since the girls are bigger.

We have flower gardens at home. I have a lot of perennials there, but punch things up a bit with annuals for colour. We have a community garden plot for veggies. Its near my work, so I do most of the tending...it relaxes me after a long day. I park my car there and ride my bike into work (its 10 minutes), so I have to go there everyday. This year I am planting 3 kinds of tomatoes, peppers, peas, carrots, beans (two kinds), cabbage, parsnips, brussel sprouts, different herbs, broccoli and cauliflower, spinach and salad greens, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, summer squash, butternut squash and pumpkins. We are seed starting this weekend and I am very excited. The kids love to help, hopefully this year I can get them to help with weeding - last year that was a no go as they pulled the plants, but they were good a watering and harvesting.

We have a vegetable garden that we usually keep going year round. This year, with the baby, I took the fall and winter off. We got our spring/summer garden in yesterday. Five types of tomatoes, five types of peppers, pole beans, bush beans, zucchini, lemon basil, cilantro, parsley, mint and we'll add eggplant when it's a little warmer out. We also have an orange tree and grow a few types of flowers and succulents.

I do the planting, watering and harvesting. DH does the tilling and weeding. It's a good system. Smile

We are hoping to get in veggie beds this year, but we've hoped that for the last few years. I currently have some herbs in pots, plus we do flowers every year. I've done container gardens too with veggies, and I will again this year if the beds don't go in early enough.

I attempted a garden last year. We had zucchini coming out of our ears. We got one tomato and one cucumber. Lol But then I went home for 2 weeks and my husband managed to kill most of my garden. I'm not going to bother this year at the new house other than a couple of tomato plants in pots.

We don't have a garden, but we have planted a variety of dwarf fruit trees. Our newest additions have been apple and avocado. We have orange, lime, lemon, and blueberry.
