RQOTD - Tuesday

Do you exercise? What do you do and how often?

Yes. I walk daily, use our eliptical every other morning and bike on weekends. I also own a kayak that I love. I use the Wii fit when its cold outside to get me moving, usually during the warm months we're outside all the time so not so much then.

Right now I sit on my butt. I can't wait for slightly cooler temperatures so that it's cool enough in the morning to go out walking again. I really enjoyed walking 2-3 miles most days last winter and spring, but unless I'm willing to go walking before the sun is up it's just not going to happen right now.

I do try to walk daily and I try to take the stairs up to my office every morning (12 flights), but I really could be doing a lot more.

Yes, I try to exercise 5 days a week. I am a Zumba instuctor, so at least two days a week are Zumba. Lately, it has been 3 days a week. I am trying Piloxing on Thursday! Biggrin I also attend a Turbokick class every Friday. I am big into group exercise. An elliptical or treadmill will not do it for me. I just thrive on group stuff. It makes me work harder and knowing people expect me to be in class makes me go. It helped me lose 40 pounds a couple of years ago, and it helped me lose the weight I put on with the twins. Now, if only it could fix what the twins damaged (abs and pelvis). Sad

I was doing Zumba until I got pg and then stopped. I only did it one time a week - sometimes twice. Now I just walk a mile a day at lunch and chase after Deacon.

The only exercise I'm getting right now is chasing around a toddler. We have an elliptical that I used to use on a pretty regular basis but I haven't used it since before I was pregnant. I was taking Jordan for walks everyday before the temperatures got ridiculous. I am with Jackie, patiently awaiting cooler temps. Maybe one of these days I will join the Y or something so I can try out some fun classes. I'm still too overprotective to let Jordan go to the gym daycare.

No. How horrible is that?? Pre-kids, I'd exercise minimally. Post-kids, I just haven't figured out to fit it into my schedule. DH works crazy hours and by the time he is home, I am just not motivated to do anything because I am usually doing housework or playing catch up with work. Now, on my off days we are pretty active, but I'm not doing anything regular in the sense of toning or cardio, like I'd like to do!

Yes. I work out 5-7 days a week. I run 3-6 miles a day, with 1 long run of 7-14 miles a week. Plus I lift at the gym 3-4 days a week, alternating arms and legs.

If I could get my diet under control, I might actually look like I workout that much.

That's my big challenge too, Amber.

Yes, I exercise, mainly by running 3x a week. Just started a 5k running clinic recently and have been going to the group runs being held by the local running store Weds and Suns. Right now I'm running about 3k each time.

I have also been walking home with Evie in the stroller about 3-4 days a week. I really enjoy this time with Evie, and even tho it's all uphill, it's totally worth it for the quality time talking with Evie.

I am thinking of trying out early morning yoga, maybe next week. I feel like I need a destressing, stretching type of workout to counterbalance running and work (and maybe life, too...?). I would rather do yoga another time but with Evie, I just don't have any other time. I wish she was old enough to do mother-daughter yoga.

I need to start. I went for (a short) walk last night and was actually sore afterwards. I know my mind and body would benefit from getting back into some sort of an exercise routine.

Any tips for slowly getting back into something? Like maybe 20 minutes/day at least until I can get this little teether feeling better?

Sophia- Have you tried videos for Mom and me Yoga? We have a toodler one made by Parents and my kids love it! There are lots of them out there.

Most of the times the kids don't last long, but they always have fun.

Julie- I would stick with walking for now. You want to aim for keeping your heart rate elevate for 30 minutes to see the best benifits. So I would aim for 30 minute walks 4 times a week. Once that starts feeling good, maybe try longer walks or adding in a video during nap time. I really like the 30 day shred. It's a total body excercise with cardio. It only takes 30 minutes and uses a couple hand weights.

Yes, this! No jumping right in with P90X now, got it! ROFL I think walking is a great way to start. You can add more as you feel comfortable. Many people make the mistake of overdoing it when they start. I really do love my Y and the group ex classes too. I just need that social motivation to keep myself going. I just cannot go out and run or pop in a video. I don't stick to it. Get me to a gym and in a class, and I am going all out. Biggrin

I knew that. What was I thinking. I'll have to check out that 30 minute shred.

Melanie - I don't even know what P90X is. Tells you how out of the loop I am.

Julie- P90X is a 90-day fitness program that supposedly incorporates strength, cardio, yoga, etc. on different days. I have never attempted it. You can look it up to see what it is all about. Biggrin

*benefits. (I hate it when I have a typo, then it gets quote before I can sneak in and fix it.) lol!

I do better at the gym too. At home, I just have no dicipline to do a video. Me working out to a video looks like this:

-Pops in video- FF through the boring crap. Starts warm up.
-1 minutes later think, "This takes 45 minutes- I should run a load of laundry while I do it."
-Go start said laundry.
-Come back start video. GO for 3 minutes then think, Man, this floor is kinda dirty. I should sweep it quickly, so I'm not covere in dog hair."
-Sweep floor.
-Start video. workout for 4 minutes.
-Phone rings. T.V caller ID says it's my Grandma- Can't screen Granny!
-Take on the phone for 30 minutes while surfing the internt.
-Completely forget about the video.
-30 minutes later, Hear kids waking up. Oh darn. No time for a workout today!

On the bright side, my house does get cleaner when I attempt an at home workout! lol!

Amber - ROFL! Your video work outs sound similar to mine. Except I'll have a snack because I am just too hungry to do the whole thing without a snack. And I forget to get water before I start so I do it then...and the warm up and cool down is always so boring that I skip it. LOL

I'll check it out. Just for the knowledge of what it is though Wink because I know I'm not ready for that! Biggrin

That's funny! Lol

Amber - I ordered the 30 day shred last night. I now have to figure out some sort of motivation to start and continue it. I'm not good with keep up a routine when it comes to exercise. I do best when working with someone or having some sort of way to be held accountable.

ROFL This is the perfect! This is what happens to me as well. It is either hit the gym or forget about getting in a workout. I will say that I have done my Zumba for the Wii workout all of twice! Something always interrupts me. Of course, if I wanted no interruption, I would be working out to it at 9 pm. Who wants to exercise then? At that point, I am just DONE for the day.

Julie- Maybe there is another mom who will walk with you to hold you accountable. I basically met a mom at Isaiah's swim lessons who encouraged me to join the Y and workout with her. So, we did that for months, then she was pregnant and stopped going. However, it was such a habit, and I met so many other people, that I never stopped. That is what I needed. I need someone to meet me at the gym until I really became established and it was a habit. If I lived near you, I would do it with you. Biggrin

We'll keep you on track. Every day I'll ask if you've done your shred yet. A word of warning about the shred-if you haven't done lundges in a while- you're gonna be a little sore the next day. Smile

I'll let you know when it arrives so you can keep me on track. Lol I was considering lunges before purchasing. I'm going to go easy on those at first to see how I do and if I notice trouble I might continue to do that lightly and incorporate something else during that time. We'll see. (because of right femur)

Before Mac, I was swimming 2-3 times a week and doing yoga 1-2 times a week. Plus walking the doc in sweltering temps every night while pushing a stroller. Ugh.

Once I'm cleared to exercise again, I'm going to take an adult swimming class at the Y and the pre/postnatal pilates class there too. I'll also do cardio and weights a few times a week. I'd like to drop about 30 lbs, to get down to my pre-infertility fighting weight.
