What did you do during your childhood summers?
I always went to girl guide camp for at least a week, maybe two. I also spent at least a week with my grandparents at the family cottage. We would go camping from time to time. Once I was ten, and we'd settled into my parents current home, my next door neighbour had a cottage, so I'd go with her frequently. I also grew up in a small town with a big beach, so I rode my bike to the beach most days, or swam on the beach near my parents home. We had undeveloped land behind us so we spent a lot of time climbing trees, building forts and hanging out watching wildlife etc. It was pretty ideal, really.
Not much really. Stayed home, played, rode bikes...when I was 10 and older, I was in a horseback riding program. It was year around, but our rides increased over the summer to 3-4 days a week. So with that we couldn't do anything else even if we wanted to.
In elementary school I went to a summer day camp. Just your usual daycare with a couple of field trips every week. Right before my sister was born (I was 10), my mom stopped working so I stayed at home with her. By the time mom went back to work, I could stay home by myself. I wasn't too fond of that though because it meant I couldn't go anywhere or do anything. Awfully boring.
I went to Girl Scout camp a couple of times when I was pretty young. Most summers I spent around the house, playing outside, going to Wet'n'Wild, and things like that. We would do a little traveling in the summer to see family and maybe a family vacation. I miss those days sometimes!
We were home everyday with my aunt who lived w/us to take care of us when my parents were working. We had a neighborhood full of kids our age, so we hung out with our friends all day most days. We did things, like drag everything out of one friends garage and set up little houses in different parts of their yard, we sold her dad's golf balls (her parents probably hated us! LOL!), got together w/all of our guinea pigs, rode bike around the block pulling eachother in wagons, had lots of sleepovers and did model shows, we were dumb, really.
When I got a little bit older I had a summer babysitting each summer (a few different families) and babysat almost every weekend throughout the year.
Camp! I was the 5th kid...I think my mom needed a break! HA!
I went to a horseback riding summer camp that was just amazing. It was really religious which is funny to me as an atheist now. I freaking loved that camp. LOVED. I wish I could go back as a grown up (minus the religious element). What I would give to play Mission Impossible in the middle of the night with my friends now.
