Ok ladies...I need help. Alison has ALWAYS loved her bath. Never had a problem with water getting in her eyes or anything. But...just the other day she had a poopy accident in the tub and totally.freaked.out! Like freaked out! I don't think that she realized that the poop came from her but now it is EW, EW, EW...sobbing, tears, snot, gagging...the whole nine yards. I have taken every toy of the tub so she doesn't see anything floating in it, that didn't work. I tried taking a shower and bringing her in with me...that didn't work. Tried taking a bath and putting her in with me...that didn't work. In between sobs I ask her where the ew is? Because she keeps crying, ew, ew, ew. But she just can't calm down enough to actually even look around to see if there is anything ew. I need help! Any ideas? Please?
Ok...so last night we tried putting her in the kitchen sink. The ew, ew, ew screams continued but there were not as many tears and I was able to get her clean. I am not sure what to try tonight. But this is just getting ridiculous.
Let her help clean the tub with some vinegar and then let her help fill it with clean water. That might do it.

Hmmm... Is there anyway she will let you put her in the tub without any water in it while wearing her clothes and shoes? I wonder if she can get in when she feels less vulnerable to start feeling more comfortable. After that, maybe she will let you run the bath while she is in it without clothes on to see that you are putting in clean water. You might even be able to tell her it is clean water as it pours into the tub?
Isaiah went through a period where he was scared of the tub. It was not for that reason though. I cannot remember what we did to work through it.
Okay, that is kind of funny. I know how awful that is - Miles went through a phase where he HATED the bath! He hates (even to this day) getting his hair washed, and that caused him to hate the tub. We just bathed him the absolute least amount necessary for him to not be totally stinky. And then it was like a 2 minute bath.
Maybe bringing some fun non-bath toys (but still ok for them to get wet) in with her? Maybe she could give one of her dolls a bath first? We used to let Miles bring about 40 cars/trucks in the tub with him, he would love that! Until the giant cup was coming to rinse off his hair...lol.
Ashley - yes...it is funny actually because as the poop was floating to her she was freaking out trying to get away from it. Where on earth she thinks it came from since she obviously doesn't realize it came from her...I have no idea. HA!
So I googled this and apparently it is quite common. And to try washing the kid in the sink or with just a tiny bit of water in the tub. I am going to try the kitchen sink.
Putting her in there with her clothes on might be a good idea. What about buying a new bath toy to get her mind on something else? We bought some bath crayons from Target (sold in the baby section with the bath stuff) and Jordan loves them. Maybe let her get in with her clothes on and let her color. Then see if she is more excited about taking an actual bath? They also make a Baby Alive for the bath that Jordan got for Christmas. The crayons are a cheaper option for a new toy though.
Poor thing!!! I guess I would be scared, too, if I saw that coming towards me lol.
It sounds like you've received a lot of great suggestions that I would definitely consider.
My thought would be to ease her back into the tub.... showing her how harmless the tub is without water and then allowing her to be "in charge" of bath time.... allow her to help plug the drain, turn on the water, pour the bubbles, pick out the toys, etc... then motivate her to do something fun, but involves being in the tub... GL!

I don't really have anything more to add than what has been said, so I just wanted to sympathize. I've been there too with both kids. But I can't remember what snapped them out of it. I do remember doing a lot of sink baths with Andrew, which led to Ava getting one as well. Maybe that will work?
Just going to say good luck since you've rec'd great responses! Let us know how it goes!
