Update on us
I thought that the board was a tad slow. So, I thought I would post an update on our family.
Isaiah is doing well. He has been loving swim team. He has participated in 3 swim meets this season, and he has shaved time off his events at each meet. He did move up to the 9-10 age group at the last swim meet, which means longer events. Swimming has increased his confidence and seems to help with the emotional things that we see when he gets stressed. He is doing much better in school. We still have our moments, and school creates tremendous anxiety for him. The pressure of homework is a big struggle. He has a lot of fear of failure. Counseling has been helping him immensely. His counselor does have concerns about seasonal affective disorder. So, I have increased his omega-3 and vitamin D supplements. It seems to help some. He continues to struggle with sleep when he becomes anxious, but that it 1000X better than it was at this time last year. I pray that it will continue to get better.
Keira and Sarafina are doing well. Keira is so independent, but I love that about her. Out of all of my kids, she seems to learn the most when it comes to self-help skills because she wants to try it...and if she fails at it, she keeps trying. :) Sometimes, it tries my patiences because she wants to do something and we are in a hurrry, but I try to remember that it is so good for her. She keeps asking for swim lessons. I pray that we can start those when Isaiah's swim season ends in March. She is also starting to learn letters, counting one-to-one, and she can identify her name. Now, if we can work on learning how to calm down when we are angry... HA!
Sarafina is my little talker, singer, and dancer. She loves all of it. She tells us stories everyday. She loves to sing to anything. If she knows even part of a song, she will sing it. She has been begging for dance lessons. Again, I hope we can find a class that fits our schedule this Spring or during the Summer. She is also learning to count one-to-one and identify some letters. She and Keira can identify numbers also.
The board has been so slow!
It sounds like you guys keep super busy! I'm glad you're finding ways to effectively handle Isaiah's anxiety. I hope that it will only improve as he gets older and learns to manage it better on his own! :)
I had to glance at your siggy when I was reading what the girls were doing. Hard to believe they're 3!!! You really need to update your siggy photos.
Hi Ashley! It is nice to see you. If I can get a picture into Photobucket today, I will try to post it for you. The girls don't look much different from the siggy with the four pictures.
I see the new pic...cute!!! And Isaiah is so handsome!!
Hi guys! It has been slow around here! My kids have been sick off/on for the past month :(
Melanie, your kids are adorable! Great pic! Glad to hear that your kids are doing so well. Do you have any recommended authors/ books on the topic of anxiety in young children? Im looking for some new resources as my oldest is starting to sow some signs of anxious behaviors that I am beginning to address.
Thanks for the update, Melanie! Glad to hear that Isaiah is improving. Sounds like he has had to deal with so much. And great news on the swimming! All 3 of your kids are just beautiful. Those two girls sound so cute! All the kids on this board are growing so fast!!!
