    Default Vacation

Where are the locations that you love or would love to go for vacation?

We do love to visit Walt Disney World. It tends to be our top destination. However, I want to start planning for some different vacations as well. So, this is my wish list. If anyone has been on vacation at one of our choices, feel free to share your experiences.

    1. Hawaii -- Anywhere, I think. I don't have a specific island in mind.
    2. Atlantis in the Bahamas -- It looks so cool and they have dolphins!!!
    3. Ireland
    4. Grand Canyon
    5. Mt. Rushmore
    6. Brazil during Carnaval
    7. India

I have been to the Grand Canyon...it was beautiful but very hot! I went in the middle of July. When we go back it would be late Spring early Summer so it won't be so darn hot!

Let's see.....my dream vacation would be St. Thomas, USVI. Not sure when that will happen.

As far as planned vacations. DH and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary this year and we are going to go to Vegas since that is where we got married. And we will actually fly down with the in-laws (they have a plane) so they will watch Alison for a night so we can go out. I am also hoping that we can do a cruise next year, probably Mexico again.

Walt Disney World! Actually, I want to do this without DS and then go again when DS is older and will remember it. lol
Beach - I love beach vacations. Relaxing! I'd love to go to Charleston and about a dozen other beaches in the US.
    Yellowstone
Gatlinburg - haven't been there since I was a teen and I'd love to go back as an adult. Sadly my grandmother lives just 45 minutes away!
    Germany

I used to want to do a cruise till after all this cruise stuff in the news. That's been temporarily removed.

I've been to the grand canyon a few times and definitely don't go in the summer or winter. Too hot or too cold with the wind! lol. There are a few weeks in the fall and summer where it's actually nice. After about 2 days there I get bored, but we also weren't doing hikes into the canyon or the donkey rides or camping or rafting. DH is a nature wuss. Which is why Yellowstone is a bit of a stretch.

I cannot wait to do a Disney Vacation with the kiddos! I'm thinking when they are 4 and 5. Those seem like good ages to get into the magic of it all and not be overly tried from long days.

We got married in the Bahamas. Not at Atlanis, but I've been there too. The island of Nassau is kinda a crappy place, but the resorts are lovely! We had an amazing time there! If I were to return to the Bahamas I'd like to visit one of the smaller islands.

We are going to Mexico in exactly one week. this is a child-free vacation and I am so excited and nervous! I'm already losing sleep about leaving the kids. But I know once the vacation gets started, I'll have a great time. I've never been anywhere in Mexico before. We're going to the Playa De Carmen/Riveria Maya area. It looks so beautiful! I cannot wait!

    1. Hawaii -- Anywhere, I think. I don't have a specific island in mind. -- I've been to Oahu three times and LOVE it. I want to take the kids there... there is a new Disney resort on Oahu and I look forward to going there at some point in the future. I love vacations and if I could choose one vacation spot for the rest of my life, it would be Hawaii.

    4. Grand Canyon - I've been here two times. I will take the kids when they are older. It is an amazing place with amazing views. I get freaked out, though, as you can literally stand right at the edge.

    5. Mt. Rushmore - I've been here one time. It was really neat to see; however, there really wasn't too much else to do in the area.

Your list sounds amazing. The only other countries I've been to are Mexico and Canada (Niagra Falls). When the kids are older, I'd like to take them to Europe. I'd also like to take them to Disney World. DH and I have been, but not yet with the kids. They both love Disneyland so I'm sure they'd love Disney World.

    1. Hawaii
    2. Anywhere in the Carribean (Preferably a Sandals resort)
    3. Italy
    4. Ireland or Germany
    5. Paris

We have visited Disney World 1-3 times a year since 2000. We are addicts. I've only been on one cruise to Mexico. Would love to take a Disney cruise but they aren't cheap. Someday I may want to visit places around the states. I like the idea of renting a RV and traveling around with the kids one summer but DH hates driving so that may not ever happen. lol

So, I actually priced a trip to the new Disney resort on Oahu. Let's just say that nothing at Disney is cheap for a family of 5. Holy cow! I know your boys would love WDW. I want to take the kids to Disneyland someday.

If I lived in FL, we would be at Disney World several times a year if possible. Since we do not, we have to live with going every few years. We hope to go back next summer (keeping my fingers crossed). That will be too long between trips, but with the addition of the girls, we have to really consider how much to spend, where to stay, etc. Plus, they need to be old enough to make the cost of a trip worth the money. Right now, they cannot really wait in lines...and since strollers are not allowed in queues and such, it would make our lives torture. I need to look up the estimated completion date for the Fantasyland makeover too. Do you remember when it is expected to be completed? Also, did you read about how they plan to start really enforcing FastPass time slots? We always went within our expected return window anyway. I guess there is a plan in the works for something called XPass. Supposedly, it will be a reservation system where you can reserve your times for rides. I am not sure how I feel about that. It sounds like it takes WDW trip planning to a whole new level. I already spend weeks on our itinerary and making dining reservations. I cannot imagine reserving my time for riding Splash Mountain, kwim?

We would love to go on a Disney Cruise also, but they are definitely not cheap. I have heard they are really fun though. Our goal is to attempt one when the kids are all in school. I think it would be more fun that way. The kids can do some really fun activities. I can hang out by the pool. It is a win-win.

I have been to Central Mexico. I went as part of a language immersion program in 1995 (now I am showing my age). It was fabulous. I went to Teotihuacan and some ruins called Xochicalco. I got to go to a silver mining town. I visited from really cool caves. I never did see the ocean though. Although, I never anticipated the culture shock. WOW! Of course, I was there by myself trying to stay with a family for 6 weeks. It was horribly lonely in the beginning. Once I got used to it, it was okay. My parents had a huge phone bill though.

Melanie - It changes from time to time when in 2013 the whole expansion will be done but the best estimate is the fall. I know they plan to open most attractions as they are completed.

Here's a great article on the future Xpass.

Do you guys stay on or off property when you visit WDW? We've been renting points from a DVC member for the last 5 years. It's basically staying at Deluxe resort but for a moderate resort price($100-$180 a night).

I thought it was in the fall of 2013, but could not quite remember.

We have always stayed on property. We have debated renting points from a DVC member, but the thought has made me nervous. Although, it has been a serious thought for our next trip. Our only options for a family of 5 are PO-Riverside rooms with a trundle bed, some Deluxe resorts (like Grand Floridian or Polynesian), All Star Music Family Suites, the new family suites resort (why can I not think of the name?) or a villa. We have even talked about renting a house and staying off property because from what I have researched, it can end up being cheaper. Since we know so much about WDW, staying off property now would not be too bad. We know where we are going and what time we like to get to the parks. The cost of a vacation with all of us just floors me. I was used to our little family of 3. We also have to decide if we want to brave a long drive or fly. With gas prices, sometimes it is cheaper to fly.

As for the XPass, I missed that blog post when I was researching it. It was very informative. I read some of it to my hubby last night. Neither of us are sure we like the idea. However, we already do all of that for ourselves anyway. I book our dining reservations as soon as our window opens, I plan our daily itinerary (which parks, the order of rides, which rides we rely on getting a FastPass, etc.). So, it just means I do it online using Disney's reservation software rather than carrying paper around. I am not sure that we need the characters to call us by name, but whatever. My only question was how much does it cost since it is a "premium" service for guests. I wonder if it will be included for Deluxe resort guests (since that is where they plan to roll it out). I suppose it could be like Park Hoppers. You just add it to your package or your ticket purchase for an extra fee?

The new Disney's Art of Animation Resort would be a great option for you guys. It looks to be around $100 a night during Adventure & Choice seasons. It opens this summer. I have mixed feelings on the Xpass idea. No clue on the price since they are just testing it out in theory. I have faith that Disney will find a way to make it work or have something else. I'm a planner also and I can understand for people who aren't it can be a real turn off to vacation there.
