Did any of your LO's struggle with the transition from BM or formula to cow's milk? We just introduced T this past weekend to cow's milk and he hates it. He will take a sip and then spit it out. I'm a little worried as my freezer stash of EBM is diminishing and I don't pump as much milk as I used to (as I haven't pumped hardly at all in the past 4 months). Anyone have any advice to offer? J loved cow's milk and I had no problem with this transition. I'm just wondering if maybe it's an aquired taste for him and it will just have to take time? Thanks in advance for your thoughts or advice.
Have you tried different temps? Andrew was really picky about needing warm milk thanks to NICU.
Do you have enough BM to mix in with the cows milk? That's how I got both my kiddos on it. Andrew, we mixed cows milk in in super small amounts, watching for a reaction and gradually increased it. Maybe tat might work for T, if you have the extra BM to mix with.
If all else fails, I would just keep offering it. That is the nice thing about cow milk, what they don't drink can go back in the fridge for later.
Thanks, Amber! I haven't warmed the milk yet, as I'd prefer he take it cold (he takes EBM warm or cold). But I will try that if I need to!
I think I will try the idea of mixing the milks together. I hadn't thought about doing that! I'm sure if I pump once a day, I will get enough to mix with cows milk.
Thankfully, I was able to wean Andrew from his warm milk too. He was super picky about the temp, and would throw a fit and refuse to eat if it was slightly off. I very slowly took 1 second off the microwave time and got him to cold milk. Goofy boy! I'm so glad that is over.
I never warmed Deacon's milk either because I didn't want to be caught in public without a way to warm it and have him upset. I would try mixing it little by little until he got use to it. If that doesn't help try it in a sippy instead of a bottle (if that's what you are doing) so that he doesn't associate it as a substitute.
