Hi ladies. My sister went for her big u/s today. The tech wouldn't let BIL in, didn't tell Cheryl anything at all and only gave them a pic of the head. She wouldn't reveal the sex or turn the screen so my sister could see it at all during the scan. Have you ever heard of this? I'm worried about the baby. The only time I've heard of this was when one of my closest friends' baby had a serious b/d and wouldn't survive to birth. Reassure me please.

Yes, all that is worrying. I know in Canada, they are more restrictive on what they say/show. Is she in Canada.
If I were your sister, I would be calling my doctor to get answers ASAP. I'd probably camp out in the office to be heard. IMO it is not right withholding information.
That being said, some U/S techs are very close mouthed. They take their instructions very seriously not to tell the patient any results, since they are not doctors. Maybe she just takes this very seriously.
Yes, we're Canadian, but I've had two babies and no issues with this. All my friends/family have had their partner in with them and certainly have been told the sex if they wanted to know. Doc is closed until Friday....guess we will have to wait until then. Sigh. I hope nothing is wrong, this is a very wanted baby after 2 rounds of IVF and years of infertility. Sigh.

I was under the care of an RE for most of my pregnancy (big subchoronic hematoma)...my first ultrasound with them they were very closed mouth. But since I had an ultrasound every two weeks after that they got to know me and talked non stop about what they were looking at. It did have me freaking out that they were seeing something bad...but turns out that is just the way that they conduct themselves for the first ultrasound.
Techinally the u/s tech are not suppose to say anything about the baby. That is the doctors job,so i agree that maybe she took that very seriously. Here, if they see something concerning, they have the doctor come in right there and then. If that was me, I would be calling as well to see what's up and get some reassurace.
Yes. With my u/s with DS my husband wasn't allowed into the room till the very end - after an OB reviewed what the tech got. I wasn't allowed to see the screen till DH was let in the room. They took FOREVER to do my u/s too - over an hour!!! It was awful. In the end we got to see 5 minutes of u/s, told the sex, and sent on our way. Telling the sex was also a new thing for them - they used to never do it. This was at a military hospital.
Usually if there is anything concerning they'll contact the OB or whoever quickly and go from there.

Hopefully it's nothing except she got stuck with a bad tech. Please KUP.
I didn't realize your sister was expecting!! I remember a recent thread where you were saving children's things for her for when the time came.

Hi all, no word yet, but I've heard from a bunch of Canadian women on here that this was a common experience for them. Sure hope everything is okay. Tomorrow is the day....the doc is closed today...but of course, tomorrow is also our annual work canoe excursion, so I won't be near a phone or a computer all day. ARGH. I'll KUP.
Ashley, finally, after several years of trying and 2 rounds of IVF, they are 20 weeks. She is beyond excited. I must say, I've never seen anyone so paranoid about pregnancy before...but then I guess when you work that hard for it...she's funny but I don't blame her one bit.
