    Default Lurker with a question

    Hi,

So I haven't been TTc for 2 years, only one, but because I've hit the one year mark I am off to the doctor to see about testing to find out why we haven't been getting/ staying pregnant. In the past year I've had a few chem pregnancies, and always had the loss very quickly, as in af was right on time or just a day delayed. For at least 2 ( I will have to check my charts if there were more) I have had early positive tests to accompany these, others I haven't but had lots of pregnancies signs, just been a good girl and not tested early. My first pregnancy I fell pregnant first month trying so this has come as a real surprise to me.

What should I be looking for and asking for when I see the doctor on Tuesday. It will only be a GP, no specialist as there is not a specialist in my town for fertility. I want to get the most out of the appointment that I can as my GP doesn't bulk bill and I want as few appointments as possible because at $50 each they add up quickly

    Hi Wendy.
Sorry for all your loss and heartache.
You need to tell your gp exactly what's been going on.
How many losses. How long in between losses.
Maybe mention the condition I have... Homogyous for mthfr.
I was diagnosed with hyper fertility when I was getting pregnant within 3 months of m/c and loosing over and over.
Plus the condition I was diagnosed with means foluc acid isn't converted as it should be and causes the babies to mutate. Rectified easily by huge doses of folic.

    Take your charts in too.
Ultimately after 3 m/c they should refer you.
It's a horrible time for you.
I hope you get all the answers you need to get a sibling for your lo

Huge hugs and please keep us posted.

I doubt my GP will class chem pregnancies as miscarriages, especially as all happened very early, basically it seems implantation occurred and hcg started being produced then baby was lost straight away. I have all my charts from when I started charting this time, hubby is buying a printer tomorrow or Tuesday so I can print them out for my appointment. I hope I get some answers and it's an easy fix that doesn't require fertility treatments because it will be impossible to do as hubby can not get days off for appointments and I work as well so getting time off will be difficult for me but not impossible like with hubby

I was told that at first about chems. That they didn't really count... But they do when you have them one after another... Because something is obviously wrong!!
With the hyper fertility I was diagnosed with they said that my window of fertility was bigger than the normal window which in turn meant bad eggs got through as much if not more than the good.
That coupled with the mthfr wasn't good as even a good egg mutated into a non viable pregnancy.
Don't leave that surgery without feeling that you have got your point across!!
I have been lucky with my gp and he has always pushed for me... I hope yours is the same!!!
    Good luck Hun!!!

I'm so sorry for your losses - I can't imagine how draining, emotionally and physically, that must be, as well as frustrating..!

Sounds like Liz has you going down a good route with questions to ask and info to bring to your appointment.

Something else that you might ask about is progesterone, especially if your luteal phase is short or your temps are low-ish. That would be a relatively simple fix and not too expensive.
I hope you get some answers!! Please KUP on how things go!!!

Been to my appointment, as I guessed not much help. He looked at my charts and commented they were so perfect they almost looked made up. He also said with the chemical pregnancies they really shouldn't have shown up as positives tests at that point and seemed to fob them off a little. He has ordered sperm testing for hubby so I have to call tomorrow to see when he can do that, but it will probably be his day off next week. He would not order anything for me saying he couldn't and could only refer me to the fertility clinic, which he didn't do either. He wants me to have a pap smear, so yay I get to pay for another appointment to get that done, I think I may wait until we go back for hubby's results to save on money. After we get hubby's results back we will proceed, which will mean me having to travel to the fertility clinic. The doctor wouldn't even order blood tests for anything including progesterone which I asked about.

We are having all sorts of dramas even get the SA for hubby arranged because after getting the run around yesterday we will have to go an hour and a half to give the sample, our collection centre locally can't take it

I have to say I am not liking your doctor!!
Seems as if you are being fobbed off!!!
Just because the chemicals ,shouldn't have shown up' doesn't mean they haven't occured!!!!!
Doc didn't even offer to test to see if you were actually oing or not either???
    wow!!!
    I am disgusted!!
    You must feel like pants!!!
Can you get another doc who is a little more sympathetic???
Easier said then done I know!!!
I am so sorry you are getting so much stress out of this!!!
I hope that DH SA is okay...and you get referrred on...away from this doc!!!!
    Keep us posted love

He can see clearly from my charts I am Oing. Basically he told me all he can do for me is refer me to the fertility clinic, he won't even run blood tests and will leave all those to the fertility clinic. If he can order and interpet an SA he can order and interpret a basic progesterone test is my view, but anyway.
Hubby goes for his SA tomorrow, poor guy gets to look like a creeper in the toilets there because he has to travel for it. Then we will go back and see what we get and then off to the fertility clinic, but i'm guessing by the time that all goes through I won't be jumping to make an appointment as I will be in the TWW
