So since we rec'd the news that DHs numbers have increased significantly, we have both been obsessed with trying to figure out what he's changed to cause them go up so drastically. After doing some research, I thought I would share these with those of you who are also struggling with MFI. I remember when we first found out the cause of our infertility, I searched high & low for information like this... I would LOVE to hear from anyone out there also struggling with MFI... to compare notes, so to speak...
Here's our list:
-Reduced caffeine intake (less than one cup of coffee a day)
-Added vitamins (multi-vitamin, vitamin C, CQ 10, Zinc) I've also read that adding Vit B12 (1000mcg daily) even if no deficiency, it may help me with a sperm count of less than 20mil or a motility rate of less than 50%. This is something we have recently added to his vitamin intake.
-Quit cycling--DH use to cycle to and from work in the Summer/Spring. He also used to go on 10+mile rides 1-2x wkly, ride in marathons, etc.
-Discontinued use of muscle building supplements/protein. This one, I believe was one of the biggest issues... we were both very surprised by the information we found online regarding the connection with these supplements and infertility. DH would drink at least one a day, if not more. I read, in one article, that long-term (5+ years) can cause permanent damage. Yikes!
So far, that's what we've come up with...
If I had to pick one, I think it's the bike riding. I was told that bike riding is one of the #1 causes for sperm death/infertility in men. I'm no expert though.
