    Default Monitored IUI Cycle

    Hi Ladies,

Well last cycle was our first IUI cycle. I did 50mg of clomid CD 5-9. It was an unmonitored cycle, I was doing OPK, but wasn't getting my surge, so on CD 16, I went in for BW, and with those results, the doc called me and told me to come in that day for IUI. Well it didn't work! Doc thinks maybe we missed the egg, so wants to do a monitored cycle this month.

Can anyone speak from experience and tell me what to expect? There was all this talk about doing U/S and looking at the follicles, and BW, and then doing the HCG trigger shot, and IUI two days later...is this common? Any advice/help is greatly appreciated

I used injected medications but the process should be similar... on day 2-3 you go in for baseline u/s, then about 6-8 days later you start going for more u/s (about every 2 days) to see how the meds are working, when the follicles are the size they want you do the hcg trigger (in the stomach and it burns) and 2 days later do the IUI, 14 days later they do a blood test.

    hope that helps

Hi Margaret - thank you for your reply! Ok, that's what I expected. I guess I was more wondering if the IUI would be done 2 days after trigger shot. My doc said my shot should be done at night (let's say Wednes night) and then I would come in for the IUI on Friday morning. so only about 36 hours later. I wasn't sure if the usual is to ovulate about this time frame after the trigger shot?
I've read that some women say they've O'd 48 hours after TS, and missed the egg....

    So sorry it didn't work!

As for a monitored cycle (I did 5) this is how it worked for us. Go in on CD3 for initial scan and BW, start meds, then you start getting daily u/s and BW around CD 9 or CD10 usually. The first clinic I went with started at CD 10 and did it daily until LH surge and did the IUI the following morning after surge. When I switched clinics they started at CD9, skipped CD10, then went to CD11. It would have been back and forth like that until surge but I O early on meds. At my clinic I did HCG shot the night of my natural surge, then IUI in the morning. But I have a short surge and fast O. It might take a few rounds for your clinic to understand how your body works, and you might need IUI the following day instead of 2 days later.

    I hope this helps.

Generally the trigger is around midnight and so about 36 hours is correct.

I have just finished 3 monitored IUI cycles running. At my Dr's office my cycles go like this.
Day 2: U/s given the injectable drugs by the clinic
Back about day 7 for repete u/s - given instructions for next meds dosage
Back about day 10 or 11 for u/s - usually given trigger shot.
Day 11 or 12 DH goes in early and produces a sample at the clinic. The scientist team do there thing, I go in a few hours after him. I collect the sample from the clinic and take it up to my Dr's rooms. IUI done at the Dr's office.
At 13/14DPO if I make it that far I am allowed to test.

I guess it all depends on how your body responds to meds which you find out during the monitoring. When do you start your cycle?

I always surged before they expected and my surge is strong/fast. I did use HCG twice to help things along and maybe get an extra egg to release, but that's it. IUI for me was always the morning after surge, never 2 days later (at least I don't think it was...but it's be 3 years since our first cycle we did). Out of 5 medicated/monitored cycles, 3 we caught the egg (2 were chemicals), 1 IUI was cancelled due to a cyst, and 1 was BFN.

Here's hoping your doctor will tweak your cycle really well and you catch the eggie!

Ok well I went in on CD 11 for ultrasound, and had a follicle at 22 mm, and estrogen at 576, so the doc had me do the trigger shot Tues at 7 pm, and then i went in yesterday morning for the IUI...I was nervous I wouldn't catch the egg, but I did feel some ovulation pain yesterday, so I think we're good!! the specimen was 19,000,000 with 65% mobility, and the nurse said those are excellent #'s!!!

Here's my next "dilema"...I usually have a short cycle, average is 24 days. I usually O on CD 15, which means my luteal phase is only about 9-10. The first progesterone was only 9.8, so my RE started me on clomid (was 15 my first cycle on clomid, and 17.5 last cycle) However, I think that last month I had a chemical pregnancy. I think I implanted late (i felt a lot of cramping 9DPIUI) but started spotting 2 days later - which I thought at the time was IB, 1 day after that i got a BFP, day after that was a negative beta. Day after that AF started full blown!!!
So yesterday at my IUI I expressed my concerns about having low progesterone levels. He didn't seem to think it was a problem. I told him that i started spotting early, which his response to me was that spotting early isn't an early period, it's caused by something else. (like a cyst) Honestly, I don't think he knows me too well as a patient!! If for the past 2.5 years I've had short cycles, it wasn't caused by a cyst - it was indeed the start of my period!! I'm afraid that if I implant late, like 9DPO, but my levels have already started dropping, I could lose the pregnancy... dont you agree?

What are your thoughts? experiences? Do you think I should insist on having progesterone?
