Default Question for USA friends (OT & TMI)

Hi girls. I have a totally embarrassing question to ask you all.

I have a raging yeast infection. I used to have them chronically, but it's been a LONG time since I had one this bad. I think it's because of the heat, humidity, chlorine (pool) and from spending time in the ocean. It could also be because we were told to use protection because of my surgery this month, so we used condoms. DH bought ones with lube and condoms with lube always make me itchy. UGGGG..... I'm also insane allergic to everything that might touch down there and DH forgot my special soap so I used Dial for two days to wash. We also don't have my Purex Free detergent for laundry. Needless to say - I've screwed over my entire routine and my body is rebelling.

Up in Canada we can get Diflucan (pill) without a prescription now under the brand CanesOral. Do you know if we can get that down here? I've tried multiple stores and don't see anything like it here. I didn't think it was that bad at first so I used the Walmart brand 3 day treatment. I was doing better on the third day, then we tried sex and it got way worse again. The Walmart isn't close to us here at all, so I got another Walgreens brand 3 day treatment. I think I'm allergic to something in the formula though because it burns when I put it on now (just when I was getting better!!).

I splurged and went for the regular name brand Monistat this time, the 1 day treatment because it's 1200mg in one ovule versus 200mg in ovules for the 3 day treatment (effectively one massive dose). Do you think that will work better? This is ruining my vacation because I don't want to do anything but sit in the AC!

Or, do you think I should go to the doc and get a Diflucan pill prescription? We have travel insurance so I'm sure an appointment is covered, I just hate to waste my time at a walk in clinic for that. Plus - it's embarrassing.

Uggg....I hope this one day treatment makes me feel better by tomorrow because we are going to Universal Studios!

    That stinks!

I use monistat too but have found that the 3 day treatment was better for some reason. I have tried the one day and it didn't cut it.

    Hope you get some relief!

Oh Rachael I'm so sorry!!! I too get lots of yeast infections.

You can't get diflucan in the US w/o a script, sorry. Monistat 1 has worked for me but if yours is really bad I would go with the 3 day treatment as well. Oh, and I'd avoid DTD for right now too because it can really aggrivate things.

Oh, and get the kind with the external cream to help with the itching and pain in the meantime.

Maybe in the future you could buy some in CA and bring it with you state-side - you poor girl!!!!

I hope it goes away quickly for you.

Also - you can take acidophilus or eat yogurt with active yeast cultures. That'll help keep your body in better harmony with your yeast. Ok, that was a really weird thing to say but true nonetheless.

    GL - and enjoy Universal!

**Lurker** Be very careful with how much of the yeast infection stuff you use. I am very sensitive too and ended up trying everything in the sun to find out about 2 months later that it wasn't an infection anymore but just being irritated from everything. That included doctors prescibing different things. I wouldn't use anything but the diflucan. What also helped with the irritation was using basis soap which you can find at walgreens. Also try using latex free condoms. Durex has a kind that didn't bother me.

I don't have expereince with it myself, but I would say just go into the Dr. since it sounds like it is covered, so they can hopefully clear it up quick so you can enjoy the rest of your vacation
