Haven't been on here in a while. A lot has happened since my last post. DH and I pursued treatment with a urologist. After a lot of testing, it was announced that we were dealing with what appeared to be a Grade I Varicocele (basically a cluster of varicose veins in the testicle--all of the excess blood flow causes extra heat which in turn kills the sperm). Because he only graded it at a I in severity, he wasn't 100% that this was the sole purpose for our infertility. After several weeks of consideration we decided to go ahead with the surgery that would correct the problem.
Yesterday DH underwent surgery. After the surgery, the doctor explained that typically with the varicocele's they usually only find 3-5 veins. He said DH had 7 "large" veins... This bumped him up to a Grade III. The doc was very confident, after the surgery, that he felt this was the reason for our infertility and that this surgery would correct the problem.
We won't know for 3-6 months if the surgery worked or not. We can start trying again in a few weeks, but doc says numbers probably won't change for a few months. We're scheduled for an SA in 3 months and 6 months.
