Hi DannyT!

Didn't want to start a discussion on the intro thread, so I just copied over here!

Hi - I'm 35 & have been trying for 2 yrs natural and now 6 mos. with Hormone assistance (only 2 cycles out of 6 due to residual follicles). We will be trying our first IUI this cycle as our doctor says with age he doesn't think we should wait to move forward.

Any advice on steps to increase success chances? Last hormone cycle the nurse actually told me "I can't believe you didn't conceive as your numbers were great." For some reason it didn't make me feel any better.

Looking foward to some advice from veterans.

I don't have any special advice...I just wanted to say "Hi" and welcome! I am in the midst of my first IUI cycle right now, so maybe I'll have more advice after I get through the first one. Wink It hasn't been too bad so far, but for various reasons, I think I'll probably be doing another one after this! :goodluck:

Thanks Jean - Good Luck to you and thank you very much for the warm welcome! I'm only a little bit behind you, I'm on cycle day 5 now and just started my cycle of clomid. My IUI is scheduled for CD 14. I will be thinking of you over the next two weeks and looking forward to updates on your progress.

Tried to add a ticker from fertilityfriend.com posting to check if I did it right Wink

You got it with the ticker! Looks great!

Cool that you are only a little behind me...we can compare notes! Smile My RE does 2 days of IUI, so this morning was the 2nd, and I'm not on to that darn 2WW!

I hope this does the trick for both of us!

Will be thinking of you during this 2WW. I about went crazy last cycle, the engineer in me wants to have answers. I started tracking my temperature as that is something i can do every day to occupy myself. At least I can occupy my analytic mind with chart comparisons :).

My RE only does 1 day of and encourages additional NR outside of IUI. Did you cramp or feel pain? Did they allow you to rest on the table for 20 min afterwards?

I feel really good about this cycle. A little anxious but good for both of us!

ROFL Yep, the geek in me started charting for the same reason...it gave me something to do that I could obsess over. It was very helping in giving me information, though, especially when it came to talk to the RE about what we going on.

I can't say I really felt any pain. It was a little uncomfortable...the first day from the dr who was a little less than delicate with the speculum  and the 2nd day I had a little cramping as the dr was putting the tube through the cervix. But neither was bad at all! They did tell me to just stay put for 10 minutes or so afterward, so that was good. I've been a tiny bit crampy off and on ever since, but nothing bad. I think it's just because I'm hyper-aware of it at the moment.

Hopefully it'll be good news for both of us! The shots weren't nearly as bad as I expected, but I could do without having to do them again! Wink

I guess alot of procedures come down to the individual RE's style. It's good they had you lay down for a while. I've been reading some of the studies published and I believe the studies show there was an increase in probablity of success for patients who laid still on their back 15 min after the IUI. My RE said to plan on it and I wondered if any of the other RE's subscribed to that.

Really excited for you right now. I hope you are feeling great! I won't know till Tuesday if everything is good to go for mine. Keeping my fingers crossed!

The nurse called quite early with my b/w results. Apparently my progesterone is quite low. So I have to take my 2nd hcg shot tonight. That is supposed to do the trick to keep it up until they test. So much for getting to test early. It probably won't test out before I have my beta. Hoping it'll be good news then!

I'm excited for you...hopefully Tuesday will show everything ready to go! Smile

I hate that it is going to impact your abiliity to test early but it is a VERY good thing they catch the low progesterone. Fingers and Toes crossed for you!

Glad you stopped by Deirdre! GL to you @d feel free to hang around.

Jean I have to share a funny from today. My DH nd I were discussing the process he referrs to as Turkey Basting better known as IUI. He stopped and said you don't really like that name, what if we call it 'Baby Batter Blaster'......
I sat there laughing as there are these cans of pancacke batter they called Batter Blaster - ready made aerosol pancakes!!

Funny image to hopefully make you laugh!

ROFL I love it! That is hysterical! We definitely have to be able to laugh at this process sometimes, so it doesn't drive us completely nuts!

Okay - I am having a little bit of an anxiety situation. I NEVER test OPK + till day 13. It is day 12 and had a nice OPK + this am. My IUI is scheulded for Tuesday day 14. I am afraid I am going to miss this IUI.

Anyway - I know my DH and I can BD today, but since I already have an OPK+ (and ovary pain) should we go ahead and BD tomorrow too even though the IUI is scheduled for Tuesday?

I don't know if on these CLOMID cycles if you can ovulate on your own and then have additional ovulation with the HCG shot....anyway, just a little nervous we missed this cycle now because the RE set the appt day 14

Don't panic yet! Are you still taking clomid right now or within the last day or so? (Or are you taking it right up to trigger?) Clomid WILL absolutely cause false positive OPKs, as will other FSH drugs, because the surge of that hormone is what the OPK is testing for.

More info in the links below. These assume Clomid without trigger, so they talk about when to use OPK, but generally you have to be off Clomid 3-4 days or so before you can use an OPK.

http://www.justmommies.com/articles/clomid-ovulation-tests.shtml

http://www.babyhopes.com/articles/clomid-ovulation-tests.html

Google "clomid cause positive ovulation test" and you'll find more of the same. Does it mean you couldn't possibly O early? No, it is possible. But the OPK probably isn't going to help. I know with the Follistim, I also had a ton of EWCM for days before the trigger. I didn't even really try to figure out exactly when I O'd this cycle. The next one I'll probably go back to temping to see what it shows. With the ovary pain thrown in, that could also be from the effects of the drug. They can swell and feel very uncomfortable. What did your u/s up to now show? If DH's count is usually good, you can probably BD tonight just to cover your bases, but then not tomorrow so DH is good for the IUI.

I'm keeping everything crossed for you for your IUI!!! :goodluck:

Jean - Thank you for the very good information on clomid causing false positives on OPK tests:rolleyes:. This process has so many surprises and there is so much to know.

I figure I am charting and we will BD as we would without the IUI and just assume the IUI is an added chance (except for the 24 hrs my dr recommended to hold off).

My US is Tuesday morning, so we'll see how things look, my last US was CD 5 when I started clomid. I'm much calmer now, but still having O pain. I had this pain last cycle of clomid as well but it started earlier around cd8 not cd 11/12 so I guess I should not be surprised it is starting again.

I'm always learning new stuff about all this, too. There seems to be WAY to much to know! Smile

Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your u/s tomorrow shows good things and leads to your BFP in a few weeks!

How did things go for you this morning?

Entire process went well. I had some cramping with the IUI, but just for a couple of minutes. They had me lay on my back for 10 min then on my stomach for another 5 or 10 minutes after the procedure. That was a new one for me, I hadn't read about flipping over!

I have 3 good follies 19, 21 & 22. My DH was a champ about the entire process too which made it nice. He offered to go buy some batter blaster to make pancakes for dinner...

Glad that your 2WW is flying, mine never does:eek:!!! I seem to obsess about things very quickly. I need to find myself an extra hobby to occupy myself these next two weeks.

Here's a little baby dust for you! :babydustblue:

Yay! I'm glad it went so well. AWESOME follies! Smile I've never heard of the flipping either, but hey....whatever works!

I've posted way too much around here today, so I guess the 2WW obsession really IS starting to creep in. Oh well. Hobbies are good. I just finished a crochet project I'd been working on for awhile. Time to start something new!

Hopefully your 2WW goes by quickly and ends with that BFP!

And back at ya! :babydustpink:

Jean - I got myself a pumpkin latte to put myself into the fall mood (it's still in the 90's where I am and it just hasn't felt fall yet!) I plan on pulling out my crochet needles and starting a 2WW project. That is an excellent idea!!! At least it will give me something to focus on when I have down time and can't pay attention.

You have got to be only a few days out from your beta.

Fingers crossed for that BFP!

Yum! Love Pumpkin Latte! It's been warm and humid here (although definitely not 90's) so I'm still looking for fall, too. Supposedly, it is coming this weekend finally!

Keeping my hands busy definitely has helped some .My first project was something I've been playing with for awhile. A good friend is having an October baby, and I made a little pumpkin beanie for him. The pic is actually an earlier version that was a little "off" but I forgot to take a picture before I sent it to her!

My beta is on Monday. AF should start with spotting Sunday night, so it'll be close to see where I get the answer from first. Trying not to get my hopes up too much...I think we'll be headed for another cycle. But you never know...stranger things have happened!

That beanie is the cutest! I am not that skilled at crochet. Only have one project under my belt - 1 small blanket, one color all dc.

As for the weather, I was excited this morning when they said the high was 90! That's about 10 degrees cooler than it's been!!!

Anyway will have you in my thoughts this weekend!!!! (and will check for updates)

Do you ever test early? I don't know if I'll be able to wait for my beta ::D.

Yay for better weather! 90 is still a bit much for this northern girl Smile but my sisters in Fla would think it was perfect!

The beanie was actually super easy once I got the hook size right for me. It is all half dc except the green which is all simple decrease and sc. Looks harder than it is. Smile I am just starting on a prayer shawl for the ministry at my church. They provide the material. I provide the time. Smile I really dislike working with the yarn they use but it does turn out super comfy in the end.

I am a die-hard early POAS-er! But I've been testing for awhile now waiting for the 2nd hcg shot to leave my system. I thought it was almost gone but I've had super light lines still there for 3 days now. It could mean there is a new source building up Wink but I won't believe it at all unless it gets super dark or goes away completely and then comes back.

Thanks for the good thoughts! I'll definitely kup!

We moved to TX lst Jan and fall weather is the only thing I miss from NC! Enjoy the color change for me :). I just started POAS to test the HCG out of my system and was really suprised how faint it is already only 3dpo. Based on all I've read I expected it to be darker.....guess I process it out of my system quickly!

We did determine from the dr my cd12 opk was a false...he said clomid could hve caused it or it could have been just a bad test! Anywhoo....thinking I am going to get some yarn and piddle this weekend to see if I can find a pattern that doesn't scare me!

I love the change of seasons, too. Fall has become my absolute favorite time of year. Not too hot, not too cold, pretty leaves. Smile

I'm glad the HCG is clearing out quick. Hopefully It'll be completely gone for you long before you would actually start "real" testing. My first shot seemed to be going quickly, and then the 2nd was, too. But it's been hanging out as a super faint line for 4 days now. It might (maybe) have been just a hair darker today, but I'm betting on it yet.

Have fun with the crochet. The beanie pattern came from http://www.favecrafts.com/ and they usually have a bunch of easier, fun patterns. Enjoy!

ETA - Oh boy, things are getting interesting. Check out my DYSAL thread.

Beta didn't come out well for me, despite the promising signs over the weekend. Might have been slightly higher on Saturday, but below 5 today. On to the next.

I have high hopes for you now! When do you have your beta?

I will be thinking about you this cycle. You have been so sweet to me as I've started this process, I will definitely need to keep up with your progress on this new cycle. I'm going to start an October IUI or 2WW thread to try to get a place we can all discuss progress :).

My beta is Monday the 10th so I have an entire week to go, just went in for progesterone test today. I am however having one of those days I wish I could start over.

- I am very clumsy - spilled an ENTIRE cup of coffee in my lap this morning, about fell over the curb TWICE at the lab to get my progesterone lab work done. You would think I forgot how to control my own limbs!!!

- Face broke out (which it has not in months)

- Fighting the never ending very mild yeast infection which I thought I cleared up Saturday but was bothering me again this morning. I get them this time of the year when my allergies flare up and I think that all the extra BD and checking has made it flare up Sad

I wish I could go back to bed and start today all over!!!!

I'll try to get a pic site setup and send you a pic of my beanie. My girlfriend is due 10/13 so I am hoping to be able to get some booties made too and a little matching outfit :).

Hehehe...we think alike. I just started one on the Dealing with Infertility board. I lurk on the 2+ board, but I guess I'm getting close enough to that point to hang out some more there.

Ugh. I hate days like that! :bigarmhug: Sometimes you just want to pull the covers up over your head and tell the world to go away. I hope things are getting better! I know that week until the beta feels like forever. It'll be here before you know it! I've got everything crossed for you!
