Cycle tracking and more...

So today was the big day...my RE appointment!

TBH, I never thought I'd get to this point. I was sure that I would get pg before now. And now, I'm more freaked out than ever, at the thought of actually having to do all the stuff involved with seeing an RE!

It was a very involved process - I had 2 ultrasounds (normal (?) and transvaginal) before even seeing the doctor. Then I met with the doctor for 45 minutes and did a history. He gave me his thoughts and next steps, and then they took 11 viles of blood from me.

His thoughts: 33 is young, so age shouldn't be an issue. Based on my ultrasound it looks like I ovulated, but would need more tests to confirm. Theoretically, I have 2 healthy children with no miscarriages, trauma, etc. so there is no obvious reason to not conceive again.

Next steps: more tests including a sonohysterogram, cycle tracking (yikes, this is feeling like a big time committment and that freaks me out), and another SA from DH (he said it's good to get 2 samples and supply can vary, and also another SA where they look at something different than just numbers). He said that once we do some cycle tracking and the rest of the tests are done, we can talk about other procedures (drugs, IUI) - if that's the road I want to go down (and I'm not really sure).

I really liked the doctor, and feel like this would be an amazing clinic to be at if you had issues. I just don't want to have issues and am feeling like I just don't want to be there!

Today is CD17 and I'm 4DPO. I feel really positive about my chances this month - but I've felt like that many of the past 11 cycles, so it doesn't give me a lot of hope.

anyways, hopefully my story will help enlighten someone else who may be considering a referral to an RE. Fingers crossed this was the first AND last time that I meet him (although he said he'll see me when I'm PG also, so maybe that would mean an early US!)

Julie I hope that was the only time you have to see the RE other than oregnancy. My doctor said they have a large number of people who make their first appointment and then cancel because after the initial consultation they fell pregnant so I hope you are one of those.

When we were trying for DS I had got a referral tonal RE but got pg before they called with an appointment. I'm really hoping this is it, but who knows.

Katie, it was a big slap of reality today...part of me wishes I had cancelled the appt and part of me is relieved that I am working towards answers. I was happy to hear that on the surface everything looks ok. I only felt slightly neurotic for being there.

We didn't talk about the temp spike - didn't get to that level of detail. He asked if I use opk's but not if I temp. I think I read once that RE's don't take a lot of stock in baby's because they can be influenced by so many factors, and that opk's are more reliable. I can't remember where I read that.

DH is un-enthused about another SA. Fingers crossed I get a BFP next week and he won't have to go Smile

Julie,
I'm hoping for the best and maybe this is your luck, getting pg before going back Biggrin
My DH wasn't thrilled at all with his SA, it was very hard getting him to go, I'm surprised they don't take 2 when there as I heard it's pretty common to have more then 1sample.
I'm happy your finding out and learning about some things. Best of luck.
What do you think you will do? Hard decision but at least you made a step.
Our referral keeps calling, makes me sick thinking about it Sad

Like everyone else said, hopefully you are pregnant now and don't have to go back! Smile
