It's been months since I've posted anything, or even checked the forums. For the past year, DH & I have been on the journey to discover why DH has zero sperm count.... He's had multiple blood test, MRI, we've gone to 2 different urologist, endocrinologist, and finally a fertility specialist. We FINALLY got our answer - DH has Y-chromosome microdeletion. It's time to move on with donor sperm.
I have been working a temporary job (which I LOVE!) for the past 6 months, and should find out in the next month if I'll have a permanent position, and fingers crossed, b/c the insurance would cover IUI/IVF!! (up to $15K!)
We've never considered IUI since we were hoping to find sperm and do ICSI.
I'm hoping to get some insight on IUI - unmedicated vs medicated? Generally what is the cost of a medicated cycle? (without donor sperm, I know the cost of that) and what does a medicated cycle include?
I just don't know if we should at least try IUI first, before jumping to a more invasive IVF. the only testing I've had done was day 20 bloodwork and ultrasound, which came back "normal". To my knowledge, I ovualte CD 15, however my cycles are usually only 24 days (so luteal phase is only 9 days or so)
I'm afraid to "waste" several months trying IUI, when IVF has such a higher sucess rate....and I only can say that knowing that our insurance would cover most of it (yes we'd still have our deductible, and prob some med wouldn't be covered)
Thoughts? Experiences? For those that maybe have tried IUI & IVF, would you do something differently??
