New to everything!

Hello All,
We just started trying to conceive this month for our first child, so I am new to everything and nervous! My cycles vary between 31 or 36 days. It has already been 32 days and I'm getting negative pregnancy tests but haven't started my period yet. Well my problem is I just came down with a terrible sinus cold! I have no idea whether I'm pregnant or not and I'm so scared about what medicines or how much medicine I should be taking in case I am pregnant. I tried taking a plain old allergy pill yesterday (claratin) -but it did absolutely nothing for me and my poor head is so packed up it's about to explode! Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi, I'm neela & just wanted to welcome you here. I haven't seen very many people on this board so I'm not sure what's going on here. I hope you start feeling better. I suffer from allergies too so I know your pain. Are you planning on testing soon?

Thanks for responding! Yes I took a test last night, still negative -going on day 33 but its not uncommon for my cycle to be up to 36 days. My main worry is taking something and then I find out I'm pregnant. Kind of at a loss, but just trying to tough it out for now!

If you are pregnant you should be okay to take something. This early in a pregnancy most woman have no idea they are pg so many still do the normal stuff, drink, take meds ect, with no side effects on the baby

BUT

If you are nervous try a saline dropper for your nose, or make your bathroom SUPER steamy by running hot water for about 15 mins and then sit in there blowing your nose every 2-3 minutes.

Other options:
Nasal strips
sleep with an elevated head
call an OB office and ask what they recomend
use a nasal teapot [can be purchased at most drug stores]

Don't count yourself out yet because it can still be too early. When I was pg with my son, my home pg tests didn't show I was pg right away but a Dr's office blood test confirmed that I was about 6 weeks or so. I would give things a few more days & try testing again. I've heard of what the previous poster was referring to & where I stay they're called nettie pots (for nasal/sinus congestion) and I see a lot of people buying them so I assume they work pretty well. I know my Dr was okay with letting me take Sudafed because it was safe during pregnancy. Hope to read an update from you soon.

Nettie pots work well and are just salt water, so they're safe. You do have to use them quite often, because they don't keep your sinuses clear for a super long time. However, I've noticed when I use them I get over my cold very quickly.

Word of warning- if you are really stuffed up, try to blow your nose really well first. If the water can't get through, it get's blocked up, and it feels like when you jump in a pool and get water up your nose.... ouch!! lol

Also, there are cold medicines that are safe during pregnancy. I wish I had my darn list with me!

Welcome! I do suggest Nettipot, but I just bout a Nasoflex nasal rinse, and I like that better personally. I think it gets more of the gunk out. Smile
