Well, lades, it's month two of using OPKs, and I've yet to get a definite positive. Last month I used Walgreen brand test strips, and for two days in a row I was getting lines that look like this: a very, very thin line that was as dark as the test strip, but not nearly half the thickness of the control line.
But, I told myself, it was my first month and I didn't test twice a day, and it was an off brand. So maybe there was a mistake. I went to see my midwife, and she said that with the crazy horrible periods I've been having she would be shocked if I wasn't ovulating. So I picked up an Answer brand OPK and decided this would be the month.
Well. On CD 10 I started testing twice a day. On CD 11, both the mid-morning test and the afternoon tests looked just like the previous month. The lines weren't nearly wide enough to convince me I was O'ing, but they were really dark. But the next day the lines had faded, and they've only gotten fainter since then. Today is CD 14, and I'm starting to give up hope of catching an O this month.
So give me some help here, ladies. Where do I go from here?
have you been tracking your CM? Cause you should also notice a difference between from EWCM to drying up when you O.
I would also call the 800 number on the box and ask them. From what I remember, each company is different about what they consider to be a positive. I've been using OPKs from the Dollar Tree this cycle and while the test line isn't as wide as the control, it's fairly close and I haven't had any doubt. I've only been testing once a day because I'm not going for exact science just that yes, I'm actually ovulating and it was "around these days." If I truly wanted to know when I was ovulating, I'd break out my BBT and do full out charting. lol.
My CM is horrible, and always has been. There's never much of it, and it never really hits the EW stage. It's been watery the last week, and today it was kind of like rubber cement - sort of gummy. I had O pain yesterday, two days after the two iffy OPK tests.
If DD weren't sleeping so poorly (and still in our bed), I'd definitely be breaking out the thermometer! My BBT charts were always so precise back before DD. It was so reassuring to see such a clear pattern. These OPKs have nothing on good old-fashioned BBT charting!
OK, I just read on the May 2012 board that a few of those ladies don't get positive OPKs until like 10pm, and they never got a positive OPK if they tested in the afternoon. I'm going to be an optimist here and assume that's what happened to me.
So that would make my LH surge sometime around Thursday night, and since you usually O within two days of the LH surge, that would make my O pain on Saturday and my CM fit right in. And DH and I assumed that the iffy positives we were getting were probably as good as we would get, so we have a decent shot for this month despite it all.
But if I'm still here next month, I'm going to test like five times a day. If I do O, I am going to catch it.
I'm using OPK's too. I totally get how you are feeling. I'm on CD 12 today, and I'm supposed to ovulate in three days. I've also been Temping and tracking CM via Android Market OVUVIEW APP. I love it. I can track my usage of OPKs too, so you get a more accurate date of ovulation. GOOD LUCK!
I would definitely assume that you O'd then! I don't have a ton of EWCM myself, but I can definitely tell when I'm not fertile anymore when I get gummy gunk. lol.
Last cycle I tested every day until AF showed. The closest I came to a positive was CDs 13 and 14. So I assumed I just missed the right time that month. I'm still testing this month, but it's following the same pattern as last month. All other signs point to me O-ing sometime between Thursday and Saturday, so although I'm going to keep testing, I'm assuming it's already happened.
