Tips to manage acne

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question. I have been using Yasmin (birth control pill) to manage acne for the past few years. Now that we've decided to TTC I'm off the pill. Problem is, it's only been a few weeks but the acne is back with a vengeance! Any tips on some other hormone treatment I could try without interfering with TTC?

I don't really think there is anything you can do other than keeping your skin clean and moisturized. I get really bad pregnancy acne, and my doc doesn't want me using anything other than a mild soap (no salicylic acid or other 'acne' wash) on it! It really really sucks! Maybe ask your OB what he/she recommends. . . Sorry. I know that is no help whatsoever.

Thanks AnnaRo. I have a strict cleansing regime (wash 3 times a day) but nothing seems to work. Well maybe I'll get lucky and all the pregnancy hormones will make the acne go away.

That could happen! Wouldn't it be nice if it did. My keratosis (annoying bumps on my arms) goes away during pregnancy. My OB told me that if acne is hormonal there is no cleaning regime that will help it, so if yours is hormonal I would think it's entirely possible that your acne could away when the pg hormones kick in! Biggrin

You could try Witch Hazel...when I want to my dermotologist and told her nothing worked for me, she suggested witch hazel on a cotton ball or square at least once in the morning and at night.

Unfortunately Anna is right, theres not a whole lot you can do, especially once you get pg. I was also on acne specific pills when I was younger, thankfully it had calmed down a little over the years. I always break out super bad when I first get pg, but then its pretty minimal for the rest of my pregnancy and it hasn't been bad at all since having kids.
