    Default Updates and question

So, I start the Clomid Challenge Test today. Hopefully it doesn't turn me into a total grouch since many people say that is their #1 complaint about it. I've already warned DH just in case though!

Yesterday I had my blood drawn which will give me my results on base FSH, thyroid levels, and progesterone, and having a re-draw in 8 days to compare. That should be sufficient to get my thyroid issues figured out, and if anything else comes up, we know where to look. I also had a follicle count ultra-sound yesterday and that went really well. Showing 15 as of yesterday, which is considered "good."

So.......I have an HSG scheduled for next Tuesday and I am totally nervous about it. Has anyone had one? How bad is it....really????

Hey Erin, Good luck with your Clomid Challenge! I hope you only have to do one. I had an HSG done in Dec. 2008 while TTC our first. It's seems to be different for everyone, as I've heard some say it wasn't painful and others say they cried through the whole thing. They told me it would feel like strong period cramps, but I though it was much worse than that. Take some ibuprofen or something in advance. I thought it was very painful even with that. The good things about it are that you get the results right away and it doesn't last very long.

Please come back and let us know how it goes!

I had an HSG in March of 2009. I was not prepared for it to hurt like it did. I consider myself to be pretty tough, but I totally cried as I was having it done. Not a sobbing cry, but a cry nonetheless. The good news is that it doesn't last long. You're crampy afterwards, but it is manageable. Good luck!

Oh, and watch out for the Clomid hot flashes! They would hit me at all times of the day, and I would wake up drenched in sweat. I did get pregnant with my first round of Clomid, so I hope you have the same success!

Ha ha! Oh man, you ladies are NOT helping me! Kidding--I appreciate the honesty. Is it something I can drive myself to and home or should I tell the hubby to take some time off work to drive me?

My hubby went with me, but he had to drop off a "special" specimen. I think I would have been fine to drive myself home though. Sorry to scare you! It does hurt, but it doesn't last a terribly long time. I'm sure you'll do fine!

I have no experience with any of this, but I just wanted to say that you may want to head over and ask this on the TTC 2+ years board. Most of the ladies over there have lots of experience with this stuff, and they are a super helpful and supportive bunch, so I'm sure they'd have lots of answers/advice on the subject for you

    *lurker*

I had an HSG done in May. Unlike everyone else, I felt nothing but the speculum. It was over in 45 seconds and a piece of cake! I hope that makes you feel better. In fact, I said to the doctor, "That's it?"

I did take 2 advil + 1 aleve an hour before, then 1 more advil 20 min before! Good luck!

I have had 2 HSG's, and had barely any pain with either of them. I took two advils ahead of time, that was it.

I had heard that it really hurts if the tubes are blocked, and I figured that was why the first one didn't hurt. But then the second time my tubes were blocked, and that one didn't really hurt either! They kept trying to force the dye through, which eventually worked. But, even with that, it barely hurt. I would call it discomfort. I have had menstrual cramps that hurt WAY worse!

Hopefully you will have the same experience. I think it helps if you try to stay calm, and keep your body relaxed during the test.

I did the Clomid challenge too. I think I may have been a little more tired and irritable, but I don't remember it being too bad either.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I drove myself there and drove myself home. I didn't have cramping or bleeding afterwards, but I've heard some women do.

I guess it just depends on who you are and who does the proceedure. Mine hurt quite a bit, but my tubes were clear. They had absolutely no trouble getting the dye through.

Erin, I hope you experience is more like Kara's.
