5 years ago today was the day that I legally adopted the girls. I was doing my violin lessons today and my violin teacher just asked out of curiousity if I had adopted the girls after we got married. I started to tell her the story of it and realized that today is the 5 year anniversary. Had she not asked about it, I would've forgotten. I remember the day because it's my dad's bday. It was one of the greatest gifts DH could've given me. I am their mom. When I was filling out their passport applications I asked DH who to put down as birth mom. He said "you, you are their mother." I am their birth mother now on their birth certificate. If it wasn't for DH and the girls I wouldn't be a mother or have children.

The contractor came over today to take a final look at our bathroom. He is going to start at 9am tomorrow. We'll have to sit down with his wife sometime this week to finalize cupboards, vanities, and any woodworking things. I want to make sure I get all my ideas down and want to add things for storage since now is the time to do it.

    That is beautiful, Meg.

We are having our first real night as a family of 5. I know that we have months of long nights ahead. But we are both so happy.

My adoption was finalized on my mom's birthday...exactly 5 years and 1 week before Sean was born That is exciting that it is the anniversary of the girls' adoption.

Tiffany - we need pictures of the babies

Sean had a good first day at work. I am waiting to hear about a job, it is for an accounting assistant position.

Bad headaches today I registered today for my first aid/cpr/aed training in February. I am doing it for Brownies.

Margaret...glad to hear DH had a good first day of work. Hope you hear soon about the assistant position. Sorry about the headaches. I get them frequently, but not so bad now that I started BCP. I had a headache everyday, all day for about a week last week. They are better now. Do you know what's causing them? Mine seem to always be hormonal. Good luck with CPR training.

I am about to throw my laptop across the room. It keeps freezing up. I swear I've looked at about 1600 light fixtures in the last 3 hours so I'm a bit frustrated with it. Thought I'd check in here before heading to bed.

I just went through everything in our vanity drawers. I threw away so many OPKs, both digital and IC. I felt bad throwing all of them but they are expired so would be no good. I couldn't part with my positive HPT and papers with beta numbers on them since that is the only time in my life I've had a positive. I still have a couple thousands of dollars of meds in my fridge that is expired also. Still feel guilty throwing it. I got them from my BFF who had them leftover from her IVF cycle and was going to give to my sister since she was considering IVF. Obviously, she didn't do IVF since I still have them.

Meg - it is so important for me to get rid of stuff like that. I had to get rid of some of DS1's baby stuff during our TTC journey because I just got so tired of looking at it. It was making me depressed. No need to keep around expired medications. I still have some left over from my own cycle but will throw it away very soon. I wonder if your expired hormones could possibly still be good... many medications are past their expiration date. It is so sad to see all of those go to waste with as much as they cost, but it is not worth the risk.

Margaret - any news on the job? Robbie still doing ok with his medications?

AFM - Hubby decided to do something crazy and offer to drive us down to Minneapolis this afternoon. So, we went out for chinese (with the babes) and stopped at Trader Joes. We got 6 bottles of wine. I didn't get to drink during our trip to Europe this year so I got mostly European wines. I am looking forward to trying them. MIL is coming over tonight to give a helping hand. There is enough cleaning to do it would be great to have some help with the kids so I can attack some of the clutter. Also, we need to write some thank you notes.

Anyway, it was great to get out of the house. I also bought some hyacinths - both in cut and potted form. It is my favorite spring smell and they were so cheap at Trader Joes. I am excited we have something that smells fresh in the house.

There's no point in me keeping any of the OPKs since we are not TTC anymore. I just felt bad throwing them away knowing I could've given them to someone when they were still good. I would never risk using expired meds for IVF.

Tiffany...glad you were able to get out of the house to eat out and do some shopping. Enjoy your wine!! Good luck with your cleaning and thank you notes.

We have the start of a wall being framed up for our bathroom. They got held up with the plumber needed to drill a 6 inch hole through the foundation. He had to order a drill bit and it just came today. I got my lights ordered...finally. Now I can stop looking. I found the lights online and it said to call for "best price." DH called and that phone call saved us $160. I got my rugs yesterday and went and looked at paint colors today. I'm getting ahead of myself but I'm a planner and it's exciting.

We got the girls in to apply for their passports today. The lady at the passport place tried to argue with DH about the girls' birth certificates and me adopting them. She said to not be surprised if we get a phone call needing to prove I adopted them. Hello....what more proof can you have than a government issued birth certificate with my name listed as birth mother. It's not like we forged a birth certificate. I kind of feel like she used her personal knowledge of DH's situation. Had she not been in town 7 years ago, she would've never questioned it because she would've thought I was their birth mother since I am listed as their mother. It's not like we tried to go in there with their birth mom listed on the birth certificate with me saying I was their mother. That is one of the reasons I adopted them. Also, so if anything ever happened to DH, there would be no question that they'd stay with me. She finally dropped it. Situations like this, it stinks to live in a small town where everyone knows your business.

Tiffany: Robbie is doing well on the meds. Thanks for asking about the job hunt, I have another interview in the morning. Good for you for getting out. I had a hard time getting out once Robbie was born and I only had one. Part of that was my severe PPD.

Meg: can't wait to see the pictures of your bathroom. I can't believe that woman! The birth certificates have your name, that proves the adoption!! I had to order my birth certificate, mine disappeared, the information they wanted - doctor's name, nurse's name, addresses, birth weight... I have none of that. I know the hospital and that is it. My birth-mom says my weight was 5lbs2oz but I am not sure if that is correct as she tells the same story of my oldest sister's birth as she does for mine. I do know that I was about 10 minutes old when the doctor and nurse showed up, I was born in the case room - I got that information from the social worker so I believe that part.

I'm really glad I wasn't there at the time the lady was arguing with DH about it. I was getting the other girls from school. That would've made me feel really bad because I think of myself as their mother and she was essentially saying I wasn't because we might have to "prove" it. I'm sure the women was shocked that I adopted the girls or that DH allowed me to or something stupid like that. That was one of the first things we did after we got married..adoption and wills.

Margaret...glad Robbie is doing well on his new meds. Good luck tomorrow with your interview!

DH and I helped my mom sort through stuff to take to Nicaragua and got a start at assembling health kits. We are going to make 520 to take down since we are going to see 510 families. It's a gallon size baggie with toothpaste, kid's and adult toothbrushes, comb, shampoo, lotion, soap, bandaids, nail file and a hand towel. I guess they use conditioner as lotion down there because they don't have a lot of lotion. Some of the villages we'll be going to have not had medical care since our team was down there last year.
