Margaret...did you have a good night last night? Hope you did something fun while DS was with MIL. That's a bummer about the wheel barring. Is this on your new car?

We had a nice dinner last night. It was a 7 course Italian dinner with different wine parings. We sat with people from our town that we knew really well.

It rained here this morning so it is really icy. I'm bummed that my church service got canceled. We were to have a commissioning service for everyone leaving on the mission trip. We usually go to Catholic mass so we never get to go to my church and this was the one time DH was ok with going to my church instead of mass. My mom is also bummed as she was looking forward to having all of us and my younger sister together for church. My parents and sister are also going on the trip. A local surgeon just got back from where we are going. I guess he is going to call DH and talk to him all about the trip since this was his first time also. DH is taking the girls to mass. I'm not going to go.

Margaret - sorry to hear about your car troubles, but I hope you had fun night

Meg - we went to church for the first time as a family in months and it was so nice; the weather that hit you guys looks like it is all south of us (I was hoping for some snow but glad we did not get "wintry mix")

Last night DH and I went out for some dinner and drinks while the ILs watched the babies and our DS went to kids night at the Y which he loves. They played dodge ball, etc. Then today we took DS ice skating. Now we are all ready to eat soup, relax and I hope to nap.

Tiffany...glad you were able to make it to church.

It's still pretty icy outside. I want to go to the grocery store but really don't want to risk breaking a bone doing so. So I think I'll stay put. DH went to leave for mass, walked out to the car, turned around and came back in saying they were staying home. I don't even think we'd make it back up the driveway if we were to leave.

Ice skating sounds fun. We don't have any place around here to go. The girls are always asking me if they can go ice skating. They could probably do it in our driveway right now. Hope you have a relaxing afternoon Tiffany. Our's has been pretty lazy. I think we're going to make pizza for dinner. Pizza and beer sounds good

I was home by myself last night, but it was good.

My MIL is going away for a month now.

Tiffany - good for you for getting out to church. I can just imagine getting everyone ready. Did people want to hold the boys?

Meg - icy is not fun. We tend to get a bunch of ice here, especially in the spring.

    Off to fold laundry.

The schools are having an "ice" day today...no school. They were delayed 2 hours as of last night and when I got up this morning it was canceled. It's pretty foggy and looks pretty slippery. We can only have one more no school day until school runs into our cruise in May. We planned the cruise 4 days after they get out of school since the prices were quite a bit cheaper then. So we can only have 3 no school days, otherwise they'll have to miss the last few days of school.

Margaret...does your MIL go someplace warm for the winter?

Meg - she is going somewhere warm but she travels year round. When Sean's dad died (he was almost 4) she went to China for 6 weeks. One summer she went to base camp on Everest. I don't think she has been anywhere in Africa but she has been everywhere else in the world.

Sounds like MIL is quite the traveler. Glad she is doing that. I'd love to go to Africa. We're hoping to go on a mission trip to Africa in a few years and doing a safari while we are there.

I need to make a trip to town (20 miles away) todays. All the ice is melting but it's really foggy still. A couple of the girls' friends are going to come over to play in a bit. They'll also have piano lessons.

My biological grandma was born in Cape Colony (now Capetown) and her mother was black. That was really surprising to me with my blue/grey eyes and fairer then fair skin. My great-grandparents were quite progressive. My g-grandma died and my g-grandpa remarried and then emigrated to Canada. That is the one thing I really liked about being reunited with my biological family - finding out my family history.

My MIL was a teacher and she would take Sean and travel every summer. Sean actually had his first seizure (he is epileptic) in the airport in Germany when he was 15. I would love to travel, the farthest I have traveled with my family is Toronto to Salt Lake City when my sister got married. We drove down, I was 13 and it was during my spring break as my dad was not going to let me go.

We don't do school delays here and the schools NEVER close, by law they have to stay open in case a student comes to the school they do not want them stuck out in bad weather. Robbie likes "green dot" days, on days when the weather is below -23C they go right into the school instead of waiting outside. There are times they cancel buses but that only affects about 5 kids in Robbie's school.

No word about the car yet.... not sure if they have called Sean at work. I have some paperwork to do for Brownies...

Margaret...I'm sure it's really interesting to hear about your family history. DH's dad was a teacher so they traveled a lot around the US during the summers. He's seen about everything. That's great that your car repair was covered under warrenty.

It's announced on TV, radio and you get emails and texts about no school days. Ppl know to expect it when there is bad weather. If the wind chill is -0F in the mornings the kids go straight into school instead of playing outside before school.

We finished up packing bags today. We have 22 bags that are stuffed with 50lbs of stuff to take. Some of the things we are taking are 500 hygiene kits, flip-flops, clothes, balls, jewelry, small toys for the kids. DH talked to a local surgeon who just got back and he recommended a few more medical items to take. So once we get those we may have to take out a few shirts or flip flops so we aren't overweight once we add those in. We sent down money before hand for meds so that is all waiting for us. I left the church frazzled today and I didn't even do much. My mom has been busy and working so hard on this, I can't imagine how she feels.
