Hi everyone. My little boy is here! Went into hard labor quite suddenly on Thursday night. We made it to the hospital and long story short, little boy arrived shortly thereafter naturally with a group of 3 nurses delivering him. My doctor arrived about 15 minutes later. He is healthy and I am just totally amazed by him. I feel like I have a little miracle whenever I look at him. We are home now and all getting adjusted to life with our new family member.

Congrats on the arrival of your little boy! Sounds like it was very fast and exciting. Can't wait to see pics of him!

I'm in panic mode right now. It's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow and be windy. Snow + wind = blizzard. So we may have to leave for the aiport tonight. I was hoping to have tonight to get stuff done before needing to leave but it looks like I need to do it today on top of everything else we have to do. Then our geothermal unit isn't running properly. It's using the electric backup heater instead of the ground temp. And it's supposed to be -20F windchills the next few days. I'd like it fixed before we leave so I know it's working since DH's parents won't know if it's running properly. And we are having to make sure all the contractors know what we want before leaving for a week.

Congrats on your new baby boy.

Meg - how stressful! Hope everything gets sorted out so you have no stress when you leave.

Saw my doctor today. Told him, headaches, reflux and IBS acting up - could it be stress? LOL Don't know how I am going to get my stress levels down but I really need to.

It is horribly cold here -45C (-47F) with the windchill! I cancelled my Brownies for the night it is just not safe going outside in this weather. We were supposed to get our car back today but because of the temps they did not get the part.

Change of plans...We just found out we cannot take a medical team to Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan government made some changes recently and there are a bunch of hoops to jump through and we can't get it done before tomorrow. Each village has to do something and lots of different paperwork. I guess the government was closed since December so that's why no one knew until now. So now we have to take out all our medical stuff we packed since we can't even take it. That also means repacking clothes since we were just going to wear scrubs the whole time. I'd hate to get arrested for wearing scrubs. We are obviously bummed since the medical team was a huge part of the trip. DH always joked he wanted to be on the construction team. I guess he gets to now. On the bright side we may be able to spend more time in the villages and see ppl's houses and such instead of being so rushed. Dave talked to a surgeon last night that just got back l and he told him what medical stuff they needed and we had gotten it all and had it ready to go. We are still taking glucometers and the suture kits. We are taking the suture kits in case anyone on the team needs sutured. The glucometers are for one of the mission worker's mom and we'll just say someone on our team has diabetes. Worse case, it gets taken away from us. Stupid government BS. We are leaving for the airport tonight d/t the bad weather forcasted.

Meg - Hope you have a great trip. I am sure there is another group going to Honduras or Guatemala who could use all the supplies you have put together. And it may be a rejuvenating trip for your husband, doing more construction.

    Kara - CONGRATS!!

Margaret - Hope this cold snap passes quickly for you. We have had to adjust to weather here, but it hasn't been quite that cold here this winter. Still we have had some days of not getting above 0; a big adjustment for me coming from Texas where it was 70 F today.

We made it to Nicaragua last night after delays due to blizzards and tornados. By the grace of God we may he able to do medical. The person in charge of the mission has been in contact with the government. When we get to Somitillo tonight he meets with the health department to hopefully get the final go. The whole team will head to a village this morning where we will hand stuff out.

Wow Meg, you guys have had a rough time with this trip. Someone does not want you there. There is a poster I have seen that says "be the kind of woman that when you get up in the morning the devil says 'oh crap'". I think this applies to you

I applied for another federal government position yesterday - took over an hour! I forgot how bad their online applications were.... Crazy.

We have Robbie's appointment for the Learning and Development Clinic. We go on February 13th from 9-12. I really hope all of this helps him.

We do get to practice as a medical team. We will be working alongside the department of health where they'll have a doc, 3 nurses and we'll have our mission doc and the four of us. The health department will be doing immunizations, aids testing and other blood tests and Pap smears. So we are actually able to do more with them helping us.

We went to a village today but could not to medical. We did bible school and handed donations out. The kids waited so patiently for us to set us. We got to the compound tonight. Now dh and others are getting haircuts. We spent about 8 hrs total traveling.
