What I have is gastro-intestenial, not fun but I will survive. With me it is always a case of taking more meds or worrying about my sugars and what the meds will do to them. I have such tight control on my levels but being like this does not help them at all.
I can't believe Christmas is less than a week away. It makes me kind of sad that it will soon be over. DH reminded me that the holiday season lasts into January. It's kind of like when you prepare for your wedding. You spend a lot of time to make it perfect and it's over before you know it. It just doesn't feel like Christmas is soon. Probably because we have no snow. Maybe after tonight it will feel more like Christmas. From the weather they are predicting it sounds like either the schools will be 2hrs late or there will be no school. We can't have more than 4 days of snow days since we leave for our cruise 4 days after the end of the school year. I need to make a trip to "town" (a bigger town 20 miles from us) for some last minute Christmas stuff and to stock up on things before DH's family comes. We were going to go tomorrow, but our plans may change.
We are sad that the storm headed your way, Meg, will not bring more than a dusting for us. Oh well, we will wait for the next one. We still have snow here and it looks like Christmas. Hopefully we will keep getting snow this year so the kids can play in it. Plus, it should help us with the drought.
I still made sure my family got vaccinated this year for influenza. DH and DS can get the nasal one... so it is not such a big deal as when I was a kid.
Things are already being canceled for tonight even though there is no snow yet. We changed plans around so we could run to town today to finish up Christmas stuff and get the necessities for when DH's family is here.
We all got vaccinated for the flu in our house also. DH and DDs get the flu mist. I get the flu shot because it's free and I really don't mind shots. DH really dislikes them. One year we didn't get DDs vaccinated and all 3 of them were pretty sick, so I'm wondering if it was influenza related.
I have a nasty headache today. It was expected. I'm day 3 on taking a break from my BCPs and I always get a bad migrane on day 3. I start taking them again tonight. I think next time I break to get AF I'm only going to take 2 days off to try to prevent the migrane. When I asked my ob/gyn about the headaches he said to take a 3 day break since I had been doing 7 days. I tried explaining I always get the headache on day 3 off and I don't think he quite got it. That's why I like taking BCPs this way because I have flexibility over my cycles and can decide when to get AF. Also, when I'm taking them I rarely have headaches, whereas before I'd have one everyday. I think it's just the sudden drop of hormones since I stop them cold turkey since they are a monophasic pill.
Meg- I use a pretty basic icing recipe from my mom. It’s just ? c butter 2 c. powdered sugar 1 tsp vanilla and 2 T milk. Just beat butter first and gradually add sugar, vanilla and milk. You have to beat it for a while to get it lighter but it is really good. I always triple the recipe for the amt. of cookies I make (usually around 5 dozen).
I’m certified to teach grades 7-12 English but right now I’m out of the classroom as a literacy coach- which basically means I work in the curriculum department and help teachers plan and implement literacy instruction.
Hope your headache is better. I always get a pretty bad one right before AF and it is no fun. Light and sound really bother me, which isn’t fun when you are working in a school building.
Margaret- glad you hear work is understanding. It seems like all you can do with the flu is rest. Hope you are feeling better each day.
I am hoping for a little bit of snow as well. I love the look of snow dusted on the ground on Christmas morning- it is so pretty! Looks like we might get a little snow this weekend right when we will be traveling to be with family so I hope it is not too bad. Hope you are staying safe with all the snow your way, Meg!
I help out with my church’s youth group on Wed. so I’m making a few snacks to bring tonight for our Christmas party. I’m looking forward to going and just having a low key night. I made cake batter chex mix (saw it on Pinterest) and it is so good! I’m sure it will last about 10 min at church lol
Meg...you'll have to share that chex mix recipe...or I guess I could look on Pinterest also. Sounds good! Have a fun night tonight. Earlier when I was getting my headache I told DH that if I had to work I don't think I'd be able to with this headache. I'm sure it is hard being in a school with a bad headache.
to find me on pinterest: momma2robbie
I find I am sleeping a lot and my fever comes and goes - worse at night. Starting to eat a bit more. Not very good at getting fluids in, by night I am dehydrated which is not good.
I, too, get bad headaches around the time AF is due. It is a common time for migraines and often migraine medicines will work to abort them. I am lucky that mine respond to advil, but I have to take it early.. along with some caffeine.
And I am going to look up this cake batter chex mix. I think my favorite is traditional chex mix with twice the seasonings, cooked in the oven. We made a ton of it and gave it as Christmas presents one year. I would like to do something like that again some day.
I think everything in Iowa is closed today. School got canceled around 10pm last night. I think I'll make my cut out sugar cookies and the girls can decorate them today so we can put them on teacher trays for them to give their teachers tomorrow.
DH got a call from his brother at 10pm last night. Idk why he had to call that late. Him and his wife are planning on coming to our house on Dec. 27-29. He could've given us more than a weeks notice. But he did say they are going to stay in a hotel which is good because that's what I was going to have DH suggest.
I have my sugar cookie dough chilling. DH has been outside working on our driveway for 3 hrs now. He started the snowblower last week to make sure it would start and of course he goes out this morning and it won't start. So he had to go get a new spark plug. Thankfully it was just that. I think after lunch I'll send the girls out to play in the snow. Then they can have hot chocolate and frost cookies.
When I woke up I still felt like crud. I had a "headache hangover." I still had/have a slight headache. As I was up and moving more I've felt better. I try real hard to not take anything for my headaches since I've been known to get rebound headaches so I have to have a really bad headache to even take ibuprofen. I did take 6 of them yesterday. One neurologist DH talked to about migranes says he doesn't like to give narcs for migranes because it makes the person fall asleep and they still wake up with the headache. They aren't actually taking care of the headache. I read that magnesium can help migranes so I've been researching taking that.
I love 1800contacts! I know I've raved about them before but they are a great company. I use daily contacts and they seem more tempermental than your traditional 2 week disposable lenses. I find if a lens is folded or inside out it's blurry and I have to change it. They will replace any contacts I have a problem with without any questions. I just got 4 lenses replaced hassle-free.
I can be pretty childish about that stuff too. I would let DH tend to his family and you can tend to yours as much as possible. These are the ones with the little kids right? I know that can bring a lot of chaos into things. I wouldn't dream of just inviting myself over. Did you ever take any of the triptans (i.e. imitrex) for your headaches?
My family is coming back around the same time - well my parents and my brother. I love my family's spontaneous spirit and last minute planning. I am going to be working during the day but there is so much for them to do: ice skating, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, hockey games to attend, board games to play.
My husband's brother will be in town as well and they get along great - now if my mom got along with his mom then life would be perfect. But lets just say we all are strongly opinionated ladies and the three of us probably don't agree on much of anything - except we love our families. His mom wants to be close friends with her and would love a shopping companion, etc. I can't make my mom come around to this idea. The rejection might make his mom crazier than normal though. At least we won't be all staying in the same house or anything. And my son will be home and will cherish all the attention and love.
Oh, and tonight is "date night" but DH is doing some work so I am in hover mode. Its a nice role reversal. Hopefully we can make some ginger cookies and chex mix. My last patient of the day no-showed and I stayed on top of my paperwork so I got to go home early.
This is the BIL with the new baby. The other brother that is coming has 6 kids, but we've known he's coming for about 2 1/2 weeks. I guess the other brother doesn't even know if he can get time off of work to come so I shouldn't stress about him until I know for sure.
I've never tried triptans for my headaches. I went to a neurologist about 4 years ago and he CT'd my head and said they were rebound headaches because I would take ibuprofen to prevent the headache, which in turn, was a bad idea. Now that I know that what I'm getting now are menstural migranes triptans may help. I'll see if taking a 2 day break helps and if not, I may have to see someone about getting something like that. This was the worst headache I've had. Usually it goes away after a night. I'm sure it's worse because of the stress of Christmas and ppl coming. Probably the headaches I was getting 4 years ago were hormone headaches also since when I'm not taking BCP I get daily headaches. I have finally woken up this morning without a headache. I made peanut brittle last night and I ate some and the temp. filling came out. I had been being careful about chewing on the other side, but not careful enough. Of course, the dentist is closed on Fridays and then it's Christmas so they won't be open until Wednesday. I have some temp. filling stuff I can have DH try to put in. If that doesn't help he might call the dentist to see if he can meet me to put a temp. in again. DH was surprised they scheduled my filling placement for 3 weeks away because the temp. stuff is not made to last that long.
That's too bad your mother and MIL don't get along. Can they get along enough to be around eachother? I'm very thankful that my inlaws and my parents get along very well. I wish we had all of those things to do around here. Our city rents out cross-country skis and I'd really like to get into that. We have some good trails around here to ski on also. Now that we have snow, DH and I should go out. Last year we didn't have enough snow to do anything.
Glad you were able to go home early. Is "date night" when you have someone watching DS so you can do something? Did you get your stuff made? I finished my baking yesterday. I'm going to bake some banana muffins this morning to put in the freezer for when people are here.
The girls' school is delayed 1 hr this morning. Usually it's a 2 hr delay but they are already getting out 2 hrs early. It will be a short 4 hr day for them. Other schools around here are closed. They closed a lot of the highways and interstate last night. I'm glad it wasn't canceled since we only have 2 more snow days to make up at the end of the year and then they'd have to miss because we'll be leaving on our cruise.
Meg- I'm sorry about your BIL. It is difficult to be around family that acts that way- especially when you are hosting! It's not like you can just leave when you have had enough. I don't think it is selfish at all to want to just have your family there. You are so brave for hosting all those people!
Tiffany- date night sounds fun! Hope you got to enjoy some quality time with DH even thought he had some work to do. I might have to implement this night in our house as well!
Mararget- Hope you are feeling better today!
AFM I'm getting really excited about Christmas! My grandparents still host Christmas on both sides of the fam (so I won't have to worry about hosting for many years because it will probably pass to my mom next). We already had Christmas with DH's family lat weekend, but that is always so easy, I truly have the best in-laws and extended family on DH's side. Everyone is so wonderful. My family tends to be the one that can be difficult. I love my mother dearly but she still has trouble letting go. I've been married for 5.5 years and she still hates it when it's our turn to be with DH's fam so I'm thankful it's our turn to be with my fam this year so I don't have to deal with her being all upset that we are not together. I dread holidays sometimes because it's always means a potential conflict. Hopefully this year will go smooth. DH and I will travel to my grandparents, who live about 3 hours away, and stay there for 3 nights until Christmas day. It's a small, cozy house and everything about being there reminds me of Christmas. DH and I are both prettytall and we always have to sleep in a full bed so that is always interesting
Not sure I will have time to get on here while we are gone so I hope everyone has a great holiday with their family!
Found out today that my one nephew and his wife are expecting their first in May, right around the time of their first wedding anniversary. I am sure my sister is thrilled - this will be her fifth grandchild. Jer is a paramedic in Niagara Falls and his wife is an OR nurse.
Sean was given a job offer today!!! It even has a raise from what he was making! He also received an email for another interview... I knew he would not be unemployed for long. Engineers are so much in demand. Now we need to buy a second car as he will be working in the exact opposite direction as I do. We will buy something cheap, or at least low payments. He starts January 14th.
I am starting to feel so much better. Still tired but not as bad as it was.
My MIL is taking the boy tomorrow for our date night. She actually apologized for all she has done. This is the first time she will have taken Robbie over night in over 18 months! We are meeting at IHOP tomorrow at 10am and then get him back sometime on Sunday! Woot! She wanted us to go over there for Christmas dinner but I refuse - she is a horrible cook and ruined my Christmas dinner a few years ago. We are going over for a few hours during Christmas day. As hard as it is for me to deal with her I am kind of glad that things are resolved as she is Robbie's only grandparent still living (don't count my step-mom or biological-mom).
Bought the rest of the groceries needed and all is done, just cooking to do.
Meg - have fun at your grandparents. Merry Christmas
Tiffany - try to rest, not too much longer until the babies are here. Merry Christmas
Megan - hope your company is not too stressful for you, I could not do it. Did you try the almonds? Merry Christmas.
Meg...sounds like you have a fun Christmas planned. I love the Christmas season. I used to not really like but as I get older I love it.
Margaret...:yahoo: Happy to hear DH got a job offer and that you are finally starting to feel better. Have fun with your date night. Do you have any plans? At least you are going to visit MIL on Christmas, even if you aren't going to eat her meal. I did make the almonds and they turned out really good. They were probably a culprit in my temp. filling falling out also. Next year I might try making them with "non-raw" almonds.
I've started cleaning to get ready for everyone. I just have to tell myself not to stress too much. I have a spreadsheet made for meals. It's hard planning meals for that many people. It will only be one night and 1/2 day that we'll have everyone here. Then a couple families leave. Once it's my SIL and her family and my MIL and FIL left, then I can relax because they are all easy.

Smart idea to do the spreadsheet. For me cooking for large crowds was easy, when I moved away for school it was so hard to cook for one. I was always making way too much food. Now I am good for up to about 6 people. I can still do larger groups but it now takes a little more thought where it used to be instinctive. For the first family meal my step-mom made for all my dad's kids she could not believe it when my dad said she would need 10lbs of mashed potatoes (before us there was just her and my step-brother) and at that point there was only one sister married with kids! My dad used to have restaurant warming trays for family dinners, we also put gravy in a crock pot to keep it hot...when you have a big family that is what you need to do... The last family dinner (before my dad died) there were 50 of us and that was 4 generations with my parents being the first generation.
I find it just as easy to cook for larger crowds also. When it's just DH and I home we usually go out or eat frozen junk. But I couldn't imagine cooking for 50 people. Thankfully I don't have to do the big Christmas dinner since they are coming the day after. The night of my mom's family Christmas we are just going to do sloppy joes, cheesy potatoes and appetizers. I think we'll do steaks, baked potatoes and some type of salad one night, tacos, homeade pizza, chili, smoked turkey and pulled porked (after the one brother and his family leave). My dad will smoke the turkey and pork roast. I made 3 batches of banana muffins and threw them in the freezer yesterday. DH's dad loves to make pancakes so I'll have him make those the morning everyone is here.
There was another bad accident not far from our house. It's on a road we frequently travel and that DH used to take to work everyday. It was a head-on collision that killed 2 people. It's sad anytime of year but when it's so close to the holidays you think about the loss to the family more. The roads are still bad and I don't think people realize it. I haven't been driving in the country and am not planning on it.
I finished a book last night. It was an easy read Christmas love story. It's nice to read easy books once in a while. Not too much going on here today. I think I'll keep cleaning to get ready. I need to make a trip to the grocery store today since both stores and good sales and open houses. I'm sure it will be a madhouse but will be worth it if I can get things cheaper.
I find it just as easy to cook for larger crowds also. ... But I couldn't imagine cooking for 50 people.
We all help out so it is not so bad and we always had turkey for family dinners, my dad and step-mom would do the turkey and mashed potatoes and everyone else did all the sides and desserts. At dad's we had 3 of the long tables (that sit 10 each) plus a lower long table for the kids as well as 3 high chairs. Their basement was wide open and where we had our family dinners, they had a long counter with the restaurant trays and a microwave as well. The only problem with family dinners was all the dishes!
We had DS birthday party last night. The bounce house was a huge hit. One of the kids came over in a leg cast and I was worried he would hurt his broken foot worse (I was thinking his ortho would be pissed if he knew, but the mom insisted her kid would be fine) - oh and I was worried the cast would hurt the bounce house or one of the other little kids. Seems like my worrying was all for nought. The kids had a fabulous time. There were 4 boys and 10 adults there which is just the right amount so all the adults had someone to talk to, but there were always several people watching the kids like hawks. It was really fun, and Eric and his brother pretty much did everything. We had bought DS some toys for his birthday, but they weren't necessary and remain wrapped and hidden away. I did really nice party favors (something you can do when it is just 4 kids) so they unwrapped their gifts while my son unwrapped his. I didn't want there to be any jealousy - after all we had a 2 year old, a 3 year old, a 4 year old and a 5 year old.
We are going over who still could really use some presents. I am a big gift giver and it is killing me not to be able to do the last minute shopping and leave it to DH who is much more frugal than I. He said he did pay the bills this month (which include most of my shopping) and he doesn't feel the need to have a talk with me for the first year ever.
Margaret - Congrats to your hubby and enjoy your date night. That is pretty awesome!! We still haven't figured out our Christmas Day plans.
Meg - Good luck with all your visitors. You bought wine right? You might need a flask with something stronger when a certain BIL comes.
Tiffany...glad DS party was a success. It nice when there is a small amount of kids. I'd be worried about the kid in the cast also.
Yes, we have wine and lots of other stuff to drink
I just made DD3 go change clothes. She came downstairs in a summer outift with capris and a 3/4 length sleeve shirt. Why does she think it's ok when the windchill is 16 degrees? Craziness. I think it was pure laziness and that was the first outfit she saw so she put it on.
We went to an open house at one of the grocery stores in town. It was like Black Friday it was so busy. They did have some ridiculously good deals on things so it was worth it. And they had wine, egg nog and other things for sample.
DH put some temp. filling stuff in my tooth. It seemed good for about 4hrs until I took a bite of a french fry and it fell out. He called the dentist at home and left him a message. I feel bad calling him at home but DH doesn't. He said they'd call him at home if they needed something. The crater where the filling was keeps getting bigger. I'm hoping they are open for a bit on Monday because it will really stink to have to have my tooth like this until after Christmas. It is now sore and my tongue keeps rubbing on the rough spot. DH is kind of irritated that they thought the temp. filling would last 3 weeks.
That really sucks about your tooth Meg. I used to work as a nanny for a dentist and so I was lucky if I ever needed anything after hours or weekends.
Robbie would try to wear shorts if we did not pack them away and it is -30C with the windchill here...
Date night was fun. We stayed in, ordered in Chinese food and watched The Campaign - pretty raunchy but it was funny.
Not sure when Robbie is coming home tomorrow, the quiet is nice.
Sean and I only decided last night that we were buying presents for each other. I was about $2 under budget and only took an hour to get everything for him. Now I have to wrap his presents and his present from Robbie - Robbie bought him a tool chest, all the tools are in a rubbermaid tote and are hard to find.
Margaret...glad you had a fun date night. Sometimes it's just as fun to stay home and do something than to go out. Inappropriate humor is good occasionally. We watched "Bridesmaids" one night and that movie is so inappropriately funny. DH doesn't like that kind of humor so didn't like the movie and was kind of digusted by it. That's fun that you decided to exchange gifts. Even if it isn't something much, it's still fun. A lot of our gifts DH and I exchange are gifts we know about because we'll be shopping and like things and get them for eachother. By now though, I've forgotten what he's gotten me. Enjoy the rest of your quiet time. It is strangely quiet without your child in your house.
In 1 hour DH is off work until Jan. 7. Except for his 12 hr shift on the 26th. I'm so excited for him to have lots of time off. It works really well that he had all this time off since his family is coming. Today we are going to go to the movie theatre and see "Arthur Christmas." The movie theatre does free movies throughout the year and different businesses sponser them. His parents are planning on getting here around 5pm. I think we'll put a roast in the oven for dinner tonight.
They released the names of the two killed in the accident on Friday night. It was a 23 yr old male and a 57 yr old female. They were in the same car along with another female who was injured. The male was her fiance and the female her mother. So she is grieving the loss of her mother and fiance. The ER nurse DH has been working with the last two night knew them. The male was in her wedding in September. The driver of the truck that lost control and hit them was also injured.
My dentist called us back today and he met us at the office and put another temp. filling in. They aren't open until Thursday so I'm glad he called us back. It was really nice of him to do this for me on a Sunday afternoon. I think I'll send him a thank you with a gift card in it. We went to "Arthur Christmas." It was a really cute movie.
I spent 1 hr 20 min vacumming today and I didn't even get to the main floor of the house. I'm saving that for tomorrow since I'd do it again anyways. DH's parents will be here in about an hour.
Went to work. Went to church. Dh is setting up the Christmas gifts from santa. I am so tired. Glad we have no one coming to our place. Hope we dont wake ds trying to get everything up and ready.
Glad you got your tooth fixed, Meg. I hate that feeling of something sharp in my mouth.
Sorry about the accident. Its been a depressing year in many ways.
Tiffany - Merry Christmas! Put your feet up and rest. I get up on not wanting to wake up the little one. We are lucky, within 30 minutes Robbie is out and unless sick will stay in asleep through anything,
Meg - glad that the dentist could put another temp filling in.
Today we went to the Star Wars Identities exhibit at the Science Centre - expensive but cool. We had a lot of fun. Robbie was a little disappointed today, we were going to have Chinese food for supper but we had lunch so late that no one wanted to eat before his bedtime. He opened his new jammies and a recordable book "T'was the Night Before Christmas" that I did the reading for (my dyslexia makes reading out loud difficult for me so I hate reading out loud, has no effect on my regular reading). Our church does not do a Christmas eve or Christmas day service unless it falls on a Sunday. Our tree is full underneath and Robbie's presents aren't even there yet!!!
I am going to make a slow cooker breakfast thing tonight - hope it is yummy. Just a recipe from pinterest.
Robbie is just on his way to bed...
Merry Christmas everyone!
My computer is broken. I am following along but just mostly reading from my phone with short replied. Merry Christmas.
I hope everyone had a great day yesterday! I know we did. We told the girls about the Disney cruise and they are super excited. We had set up a call from Mickey so that's how they found out. We went to my parent's house for a prime rib lunch/dinner and ate way too much food. I was still so full last night. My parents got a 17 lb prime rib roast...it was huge but sooo good. On Christmas Eve we went to the children's mass. DD2 was Mary and DD3 was an angel. DD1 is now a "big kid" so helped line up the kids to walk down the aisle. DD2 and DD3 sang in the children's choir. After mass we came back to our house and had oyster stew and chili and Santa came. Santa comes every year and brings a small gift. This year he brought them each a book. He has come ever since the first year after the girls' bio mom passed away. Then we went to my church at 11pm. It was a candlelight service. We didn't get home until 12:45am since the service was over an hour and it's about 25 minutes away. When the girls were really little they'd try so hard to stay awake until the end to get to light their candle during "Silent Night." They never made it all the way through the service. Now as they are getting older, it's easier for them.
Margaret...how do you like your new crockpot? I have crockpot night every week. Did your breakfast in it turn out good?
Tiffany...bummer about your computer. Hope it's an easy fix. Are you working today?
Have not tried my new crock pot yet..it will get lots of use once both of us are back at work. The breakfast was ok.
Sad news...Marisol is now in delivery at 22 weeks, they do not expect her baby girl to survive. My heart is breaking for her.
I feel so bad for Marisol. Thoughts and prayers to her and her family.
My BIL and his family will be here tonight. I think I'm ready for them. I spent all day getting ready for them.
I would put passwords on your phones. I dont knoe anyone who would do something like that.
I feel horrible for Marisol. Just cant believe this is happening to her.
DH's brother and his family arrived last night. We had chili for dinner and had a nice night. The kids are so shy around eachother at first since they don't know eachother too well.
How'd you girls find out about Marisol? Anymore news in regards to her? T & P to her!!!!
Marisol had posted an update on the April 2013 birth board. Continued thoughts and prayers to her family during this difficult time.
I'm surviving family. It's really difficult to have 17 ppl in your house constantly. The only time to myself is a few minutes in the morning. This morning I accidently turned off my alarm clock instead of hitting the snooze button so I got up later than I wanted. Tonight we have my family Christmas here so we'll have between 33-37 ppl here.
I really don't know how you do it Meg. I am glad that I have been able to use my medical issues as an excuse this time. We have my parents and brother here and a friend coming up tonight. It will be a full house, but at least no small children besides my own "angel." We are having fajitas for dinner tonight... my parents, the in laws, my brother, my BIL, my BIL's friend.. but at least I should not have to lift a finger.
We got a Roomba and a Mint for Christmas. It is entertaining to say the least. The Roomba does seem to be working pretty well. We haven't used the Mint as much.
I think Margaret mentioned Marisol and I followed on her monthly birth board.
Tiffany...what is a Mint? Is it another self vacummer?
DH's brother and his family left yesterday. His sister and her family and his parents are still here through the New Year. So we are down 10 ppl. Today we are all going to go to my parent's house to let them play at the farm a bit.
The mint is a robot that swiffers. I have yet to decide if it is really useful. Just not sure.
My parents left this morning. My friend is sticking around for a few days.
DS went ice skating with daddy today. He is starting to be able to do a little on his own. So cute.
I have a cold. Was sick enough this morning almost thought about not going in tomorrow. Hopefully this will be a mild cold.
So my MIL offered to take the boy tomorrow night... so now we can do something for New Years. Chances are we will do nothing, maybe dinner.
I have been so sick. I went to work on Thursday and left 30 minutes later sick as anything. I felt fine when I woke up. I had to stop a couple of times to throw up on the way home. Robbie had an appointment for his well child check up so I went and saw the doctor with him. Robbie is 47.5" and 48.6lbs at 7.5 years. I supposedly had a 24 hr bug, I am just now starting to feel better. Friday I could barely get out of bed. I usually do not get this sick, not sure what is going on with my immune system.
Looks like we are buying a second 2012 Honda Civic. We love the one we have and with needing a second car it is going to be better cost-wise for us to go new.
For those interested a blinkie was made for Mari's baby girl.
I have it in my siggy by try not to put my current siggy here as it mentions the boy.
And I did not make the blinkie.
Tiffany...how are you feeling today? Hope you get to feeling better. I think I'm coming down with a cold also. I've had a scratchy throat since yesterday.
Margaret...hope you get to feeling better also. It seems you have been getting sick a lot lately. Congrats on getting the new car! Hope you feel well enough to do something fun tonight. Thanks for sharing the blinkie. For those of you who don't know, you can also light a candle in memory of her baby. The link is in a thread on the April 2013 board.
We are hanging out at home tonight. DH's sister's family and parents are still here. My parents are coming over also. I think we'll just play lots of board games. My dad smoked a pork butt roast that we made into pulled pork so we'll have pulled pork sandwiches and different appetizers. It should be fun just to relax and hang out at home.
Yesterday we went to my parent's house. The kids had a lot of fun there. One of my nieces got a shotgun and the other got a bow for Christmas so all the kids shot those. My girls had done a little shooting at camp. After they were done they played outside until dark. We had smoked turkey for dinner last night.
I am so tired of watching football. FIL has watched every football game it seems. We are not sports ppl in our house so we aren't used to it. I will have the Iowa State Bowl game on today though.
Woke up feeling achy and I had a fever of 100.4 (that was after tylenol I had taken a couple hours before for achiness). The hospital was out of influenza tests, so I started empiric tamiflu. Then I got the call they had found some flu tests, but at this point I am home and I do not feel like going out. Mine started with a runny nose and cough, and my symptoms are pretty classic and unfortunately flu has been rampant here. I had the flu vaccine, so I don't know but I was pretty sick this morning. I think the tylenol is starting to help.. or a cool shower.. I have to keep my temp below 101.
DH loves making pulled pork sandwiches. We don't have a smoker and usually make it in the crockpot. We play board games too. My current favorite is Agricola.
I am not big into sports but DH is. The way I weaned him off of it was by encouraging other activities. Luckily he was amenable to that otherwise we would not be married. I hate spending time at the ILs house this time of year because that is pretty much all they do there.
I think I am going to try to go back to sleep. I'll keep the popsicles and tylenol going.
Hope some rest, Tylenol, Tamiflu and popsicles help a bit. I hear you on the flu running rampant in your area. My friend is a physician outside Mpls and she said pharmacies in her area are out of Tamiflu. She is also nearing the end of her pregnancy so is worried about it. From what I can see on Facebook there has been some in our area also....kids running 104 degree fevers and such. DH hasn't seen it but he's been out of the ER for a week plus. He may be missing it.
DH ended up picking up 4 shifts during his time off. The pay was good so it's hard for him to turn it down since we really aren't doing much. I'm sending the kids outside to play after lunch. All the cousins have had a few squabbles so it will be good for them to get some space and run off some energy outside.
I don't blame your DH. I am probably going to miss 4 "shifts" due to my illness which will hit the pocketbook later. Oh well, still fevering. Maybe I could go tomorrow, but I will still have a hacking productive cough then. Glad we got tamiflu while it was still available. I had to walk through the ER to get to L&D the night before last and it was full of flu-y looking people. When there isn't too much going on at home I would rather be at work. I am sure I will be bored out of my mind today - when I don't have chills and body aches.
All our guests are gone today. The last one is leaving. She helped a lot around here but we have a lot of cleaning to do. I am looking forward to some privacy.
We put a bird feeder out and have been attracting a lot of finches. I had no idea that DH put it out until I heard birds chirping one early morning - which I thought was strange as it has been very cold here. Sure enough there were 10 little birds on our porch.
Meg - do you still have guests at your house? any plans now that DH is going back to work?
Everyone just left a bit ago. It's already so quiet. It's a bit strange since our house has had extra ppl in it for 1 1/2 weeks. Plus, with DH gone, it makes it extra quiet. I always get a bit down after having company because it's quiet and I miss people. I'll see my SIL and her family again in about 6 months and DH's parents again in less than 4 weeks. They are coming to watch the girls while we are in Nicaragua. I'll wash sheets and towels to keep me busy. I have the girls cleaning their rooms right now. I told them they can watch "Hunger Games" and have popcorn for lunch when they are done. DH's parents took us all out to the coffee shop for breakfast which was fun.
That's a bummer that you are missing so much work being sick but it will help you get better quicker and you don't want to expose your pts. My sore throat turned into a full blown cold last night. I had a sore throat, sore teeth and was chilled (no fever though). I feel better today but have a runny nose, cough and can't stop sneezing. I need to go out and buy some DayQuil and Kleenex with lotion. I'm worried about having to go to the dentist tomorrow with my cold. I'm hoping I can breath out of my nose and don't cough or sneeze as I have the dentist drilling in my mouth. But I hate to reschedule since it took me 3 weeks for this appointment.
We have a couple cardinals in our yard. I love cardinals because they are so easy to spot in the snow and are really the only color of winter. That's neat you have so many finches. Sometimes the birds get confused if it was a warmer fall. They don't know to fly south.
I'm feeling cruddier as the day goes on. I got my DayQuil and Puffs Plus with lotion and took an antihistamine. I can't stop sneezing. It must be working since I haven't sneezed in a while. I think I have myself good and drugged up. There has also been a lot of RSV going on around here. I got a load of towels and one bed worth of sheets washed. I think that's enough for today. DH told me to just take it easy. Wish he could be home to make dinner but luckily what I have planned isn't that difficult to make. I could practically have the girls do it.
I really need to start exercising again. For the past 1 1/2 weeks I ate way too much. We'd eat a big breakfast, then a big lunch and dinner. I'm not used to eating that much but when you have company you feel like you have to make big meals since you don't know how others eat.
Sounds like we are all a bunch of sickies! Hope you both are feeling better soon.
So, I haven't told many people but yesterday I was fired  I can't even go and pick up my stuff, they are mailing it to me. In some ways it is good, there were things I just wasn't sure about. Still upsetting but we will deal with it. We are still getting the second car, we got a good deal on it. We pick it up in about an hour.
I'm sorry about the job. Did they give a reason for firing you? That's too bad that they aren't even letting you pick up your stuff. What kind of car are you getting again? Has DH started his new job? If so, how is he liking it?
Sorry to hear about your job Margaret.
Ill post more tomorrow. Im just on my phone. I cant sleep.
Sorry you can't sleep Tiffany. I'm sure sleep is hard to come by now-a-days.
A lifeflight helicopter crashed by Clear Lake, IA last night. All 3 on board were killed, there was no patient. This is so sad. They were on their way to pick up a patient. Sounds like it was just taking off from Mason City hospital.
I go to the dentist in an hour. So far I can breath out of my nose so I hope it stays that way. I'm making DH come back with me when I get the injections because I tend to get "passey-outey" afterwards because I think way too much about it. I need him to distract me.
Margaret - Sorry about the job. I know it is disappointing to think you have found the right job and then to find out its not. I hope your hubby likes his job.
Meg - I hate hearing stories about Care Flight crashes but they do happen on a rather frequent basis. I have had mulitple opportunities to go on them but never did because I knew I was not insured if one should go down. One of my friends, a single dad who is doing a surgery residency, goes on them all the time and I am not sure if he knows that he is not insured should they crash - at least that is what I have been told by multiple sources. The workers, of course, are. I do think if I was a nurse that I would be drawn to that kind of work because you get so much autonomy. My hubby probably is very happy to have me just in the office/hosp from 7-5. People who do that kind of work truly are heroes, risking their lives daily for others, and we should never forget that.
