Happy (belated) B-day Meg!! Congrats on your biking. I agree that you are only as old as you feel. Here's to this decade knocking your socks off!!
All this vacation planning talk is exciting. If you don't mind, I'll just live through y'all ;)
Still no AF :( Took my last pill this morning so hopefully she'll show up within the next week. Best case scenario, procedure will be first of Sept. Nothing I can do about though but just wait patiently. Good thing we are going to be busy around here. This weekend headed to my hometown for BFF's brother's wedding (my bro is in it - they are BFF's too). DH isn't going though as he is home from his 2week (literally he was home for 36 hrs then back out again) business trips. We leave the next weekend to celebrate my birthday with my grandparents - it's what I have done almost every year since I was 3. Then beach with DH's family (although I'm not able to go the whole week). By then hopefully we will be in the throws of shots and scans and monitoring :)
Oh and BFF had the baby this morning!! Another boy! So excited for them.
Jenni...sorry AF hasn't showed up yet. Hopefully she'll come soon. Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned and a fun next couple weeks. It's too bad DH can't come with to the wedding. Happy early b-day!!! When is it again? Is it August 3? Congrats to your BFF. Have you seen their new baby yet? I'm glad you are excited for them.
I got home from the lake tonight and now I'm in panic mode to get packed for our trip. We leave on Sunday. I have everything laid out, I just need to finish some laundry and put stuff in the suitcase. I usually pack WAY beforehand so this feels really last minute for me.
Here is a facebook link to my 30 miles for 30 years bike ride album if anyone would like to take a look. I'm too lazy to upload pics to photobucket.
Looks like you have fun. We never pack until the night before. I am in panic mode a bit for our trip because coming from Dallas - we could always do our shopping in town. Luke needs a carry-on (his is broken), I need a money belt, we need something waterproof to keep our passports in (why did I not think of a zip lock back until now).
Jenni- It was always hard for me whenever any of my friends got pregnant and had a baby. I am glad you can be happy for your friend. Having a new baby brings a lot of changes, not all of them good - many, many sleepless nights and lots of crying, so it is good to have friend support. I know you are looking forward to those days, and it will be good to have some "been there, done that" friends when those days arrive for you.
Got our hotels booked for when we arrive in Rome and after our cruise. We are staying near the train station when we first get there which is not the nicest area, but it is for one night and I think we will be happy to just get off the train and try to find our hotel. They have a nice metro system with the metro leaving the train station which takes you to some more "ritzy" areas. Then, I found a B&B that is in the "ritzy" part of town for less than $100 a night for a triple which is completely unheard of. I wonder if it is a mistake on someone's part. We may have to pay extra to turn the lights on... but, the reviews on trip advisor are glowing, so we are going to give it a shot. A hotel in the area would be $300-$400 a night.
I think I'd go crazy if I waited until the night before to pack. Children mentioned...I had the girls lay out their clothes themselves. They are staying with DH's sister while we are gone. That way I don't have to get a weeks worth of clothing picked out for 3 more ppl. I'll make sure they have what they need and put it in the suitcase. They are getting old enough they can take the responsibility of packing themselves.
We'll have to get our passports for our cruise. Disney either wants a passport or your birth certificate. I think we might get passports for DH and I and use the girls' birth certificates. I know where they are since they just got new ones 5 years ago when I adopted them.
Tiffany...if/when you decide to book the cruise I'll let you know what travel agent we had and I'll email her and see if you can be assigned to her. She's been really good and very responsive to all my emails. I emailed her back and forth a few times to see how responsive she'd be before deciding to go ahead with the travel company. I just didn't want an agent I couldn't trust. Sounds like you got a good deal on your B&B. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. When do you leave?
I just got done emptying out our curio cabinet and dusting everything down. Our wine/liquor cabinet DH had built for our anniversary is coming today. We need to move the curio cabinet since that's where the new cabinet is going to go. Now I just need to keep the cat from checking everything out until we can get it moved. Also the contractor has bathroom plans drawn up for our bathroom remodeling project. It will be exciting to see what they have planned out. The area for the bathroom is large but a wierd shape. We are going to use our current bathroom and expand it out further into our garage. I think my DH is the only man that would give up garage space for a bathroom.
Jenni - sounds like you do have a lot planned and are going to stay busy. I hope you have fun for your birthday and at the wedding.
Meg - That is so funny about the bathroom thing. We have a 1/2 bath connected to a very small master and I know DH would happily some garage space to expand it. But we are in a typical Minnesota split level and that is not possible. I would love a wine/liquor cabinet. I cannot wait to drink again. Passports are good for ten years so it is good you are getting yours. Depending on the age they are only good for 5 years for kids, so not as good of a deal. We got Luke's when he was 9 months old and are using it for the first time with this trip and he is getting closer to four.
I am still studying for boards. It is kind of overwhelming the amount of material, but I keep doing well enough on the practice questions that I should not have to worry about passing the real thing. I am a good test taker and was quite a bit of a nerd in medical school, meticulously memorizing every tidbit of info. The nausea is so bad right now that I am glad I focused on my studies then and can just really brush up on things now. I was pretty meticulous in residency as well, as we had practically no supervision and I did not want to make a mistake - so I did a lot of reading. That said, it is so good for me professionally to be reading up on all these topics again and I really enjoy it... except I am tired and nauseous.
We are having some friends come over for dinner Tuesday night. I am going to make sour cream chicken enchiladas and possibly some traditional chicken enchiladas with red sauce. I am also going to make a sweet corn casserole and likely some black bean concoction - maybe a black bean dip. I am so excited to host someone for dinner... and I am sure we will have leftovers to eat for the rest of the week. I seriously might make a Tres Leches cake too. These people are going to think I am crazy making all that food.
Also, tonight we are all going to take a canoe trip down the Mississippi River. It should be about 2-3 hours. I am really looking forward to it. My in-laws invited us out to the lake house to spend the night and even offered to give up the only bed in the place, but I feel generally yucky and I just want to be in my own bed.
Tiffany...your meal sounds so yummy!! You'll have to give us the recipes for everything. Did you know a lot of ppl where you lived before you moved? If not, it sounds like you are meeting a lot of ppl. Sounds like a fun night planned for tonight. I think next year we might try out kayaking. There's a nature center that has kayaking every Saturday and I think you can rent them from there also. I think they even take them and put them in the water for you. I'm not much into water sports but I think I could do this one as long as I don't tip my kayak.
Sounds like you are a really good doctor. When are your boards again? I know I've asked you a bazillion times but I keep forgetting. Good luck if I don't get on here before then. How long is it until you figure out if you passed or not. I think if I had to re-take boards to be a nurse I wouldn't be one. I hated my nursing boards. I took both my LPN and RN boards and passed the first time so I didn't have a huge problem with them. I just got so nervous. For my RN boards I took a review course. My DH takes a review course when he has to take his boards. I think the next time he takes them is 2016.
I have all the packing done and the van loaded. We decided to drive to the Quad Cities to DH's sister's tonight instead of in the morning. It will be a late night since he doesn't get off call until 8pm but this way we can wake up there in the morning and spend most of the day with them. They'll drive us to the airport and pick us up. We got a call from the hotel concierge last night saying if we went on a 90 minute tour of their resort we could get a discount on a Pink Jeep Tour. We had thought about doing a Jeep tour so we said yes to the resort tour. She said we are under no obligation to buy since we are already owners. Even if I wasn't an owner I'm still under no obligation. That's how we got roped into our ownership in Vegas. It was our first time there and we got hit up by someone as soon as we entered our hotel. We said yes to the tour since you got free show tickets and ended up buying a Marriott ownership. Hopefully they won't be too pushy. One Marriott guy was so pushy even after we said we had already owned one. He said "is money an issue for you?" Very rude.
We FINALLY got rain this morning. It was a nice steady rain for about 3 hours. Very much needed.
I'll probably check in from my phone while I'm gone but probably won't post much. Hope everyone has a great weekend and good week!
If someone asked if money was an issue, I would say "yes, we are about to enter bankruptcy and no one in their right mind would give us credit." Ha! Or make up some story about how hubby has 5 kids with 3 other women and it costs a lot to pay their child support. I am just saying, don't let them talk you into it. If I were you, I would cancel the tour now and book the jeep tour on my own. It is not like we are made of money, but the sales pitches can ruin a trip for me. That guy in Vegas was just pushing your buttons, channel this Texan and push back. Your husband might wonder what got into you.
I was a really good student.. and I am a good test-taker. I wouldn't go so far as to say I am a good doctor. I want to be a good doctor. My husband is really supportive of me in this endeavor.
Glad you finally got some rain. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Think of me if anyone gets pushy.
 I'll be thinking of that when they ask us if we want to buy. I don't really mind the toury type things unless it starts to take up too much of my day, then I get annoyed. DH is really good about getting ppl off our backs. The Vegas guy was horrible. He even called later to get numbers of our friends to try to get them out there. He was just yucky. During the tour it was like he was trying to pick me up commenting on my clothes and rings and things. The tour is the morning after we get there. I didn't want to do much right away in the morning since we'll get in really late so this will be a good way to kind of see the resort and what there is to do around there when we are there.
Glad you have such a supportive husband. That is really needed through your education and beyond. I missed out on that with DH since he'd already been in practice for 5 years when I met him.
This day has been the longest day ever. I think it's because I got up fairly early and got everything done I needed to get done before leaving so now I'm ready to go but have to wait 4 1/2 hrs for DH to finish his call shift. We'll sneak out of here 15 minutes early if he doesn't have any pts in the ER. If he gets a pt we can turn around and he can take care of it until 8pm. I think we're going to go to Pizza Hut for dinner tonight so I don't dirty my kitchen. I always like to come home to a clean house so I spent my morning cleaning it.
It's still raining! My dad will be happy since he's a farmer. The corn is too far gone though but I think the beans can recover some.
I don't think needing support ends at residency or when starting a practice, Meg. And I don't think it is bad that you missed out on that. Have a wonderful trip!!
Jenni-so sorry about AF. I really hope it comes soon!!
Meg-I'm the same way I pack way in advance. I have to have things done before hand I don't function well last minute. I'm like that at work. I'm at work at 7:30, an hour before I need to be there.
AFM-went to the clinic this morning and RE is desperately trying to push for at least 2 more days. There were a lot of follicles that were still behind; however, 2 that were "ready." She is waiting to see what the bw shows. So there is a chance I will trigger tonight like planned (already have the shot ready to go) So let's see. If not, most likely tomorrow. So ER should be Wed/Thurs. I'm in total panic mode for the TWW since last time I became a complete basket case. :( I have several books lined up so hopefully that will keep me busy oh and DD of course! LOL!
