Kate...sounds like you have a busy weekend planned. Have fun tonight with your friends.
I really don't have any plans for the weekend for a change. DH is working so we'll probably all just hang out at home.
We went for coffee today at the little coffee shop at the hospital since DH was working. Us two, and another lady ended up chatting for 2 1/2 hrs. Since I was at the hospital I just stayed for lunch. It was a Mr. Rib patty which I love even though it's gross processed meat.
In my drinking days (last drink was about 15 years ago) my favourite drink in the winter was hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps. Yummy! We would also have this when camping in the spring - start the morning and end the day the same way.

This is a long weekend for us - Remembrance Day falls on Sunday so the stat holiday is Monday. Swim lessons and gymnastics are cancelled so we will probably go to the Science centre one of the days - we have memberships so we go pretty often and they have a new gallery. They also have the Star Wars exhibit - but they are sold out so we have to get tickets for that at some point. We walked down the aisle to a Star Wars song, Sean is a big Star Wars fan.
DH likes warm apple cider and cinnamon schnapps. It's good but I can't drink a whole drink of it. Hot chocolate and pepperment schnapps warms you up well. I'm mostly a beer and wine drinker. Not much into different types of alcohol.
Hope you can get your fireplace checked out soon. I agree, you better get it checked out before you use it. Is it gas or wood? We have a gas fireplace but made it non-functional. We never used it since it doesn't put out any heat so we felt it was just a gas burner. When we had our geo-thermal system installed we had the gas shut off to the house. If we left it on we would've been paying $10/month just to have it running into our house even though we wouldn't use it. The fireplace was the only gas thing left in our house. Since there was no gas going to it we took out the log kit when we re-painted the family room. We put candles in it now. We'll probably light those more than we did the actual fireplace. I have a really cute pumpkin candle holder in there right now that we lit up for our party and it looked really nice. I think we lit the actual fireplace twice in the 5 years that we have lived here. I think in DH's old house when he got his checked he had a dead owl in it. Yuck!
Enjoy your long weekend. Those are always nice to have. We had a couple of them in a row a few weeks ago due to parent/teacher conferences. Children mentioned...my girls would love the Star Wars exhibit. They just watched Star Wars IV, V and VI on the way up and home from Minneapolis. We are getting them the Prequel for Christmas. Little did we know we already have it on DVD that we've never opened. We didn't realize that until I had already ordered the Blu-ray since that's all you can get it on now. So we'll have two sets of it. DD1 is reading the books now. I've never been much into the Sci-fi type of stuff. I would've thought my girls would've been into princess, girly movies but they like the Star Wars/Harry Potter type of stuff.
I'm making a bacon cheeseburger pizza and a pepperoni pizza for dinner tonight.
I love Harry Potter but otherwise not interested in Sci Fi/Fantasy.
Our fireplace is wood/
(child ment) Robbie is acting out all the time right now. Today in 2 separate instances he hit 4 kids in his class. If he hits again then he will have to do all his work in the office for a week. I actually go into the school on Tuesday for all the reports and will talk with the principal then. He has a counselling session next week as well. This has been going on for about a month now. Tonight he is confined to his bedroom.
Maybe I'd like Harry Potter if I would take the time to read the books and watch. I watched part of the first movie but fell asleep during it. We went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last year at Universal Studios.
Margaret...I'm sorry to hear about your son acting out. Has he ever done this before? Is it something that sets him off to do this? I'm sure you feel like you don't know what to do. Do you see/talk to anyone about how to deal with this? My parents dealt with this a lot with my older sister when she was younger. Sadly, now my sister is dealing with similar things with her step-daughter. Not her physically acting out but being very defiant. My parents and sister both saw a social worker when we were younger to find ways to deal with her behavior. One time when she was little she bit the cheek of a little girl looking over the back of the pew at church. I was told that she tried to break my arm the day I came home from the hospital. She went through her struggles growing up but overcame them.
This morning my mom and I went to a Scandinavian coffee at a church in town. They had coffee and different Scandinavian treats. They also had a bake sale, silent auction and a table of gently used Christmas items for free-will donation. I bought a yummy looking apple pie to have for dessert tonight. I also won the door prize. It's a really pretty floral fall centerpiece. I was thinking it was real flowers but they are silk so it will last year after year. I never win door prizes so I was surprised. My mom stayed for lunch and we all ate lunch at the hospital with DH. The weather here is gorgeous today. It's in the 70's. Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 30's-40's so we better enjoy the last of the nice weather for a while. DH and I washed the van and now I'm waiting for him to get home from the hospital to wash his car.
Tonight I'm going to make steaks, fresh fries and kale. I have kale left over from a soup so I'm trying this new recipe. The other day was the first time I had had kale. Tomorrow we'll go to mass and go to a broasted chicken dinner after for their fall fest.
Just got home from work. I am beat! My brother is in town from Texas. I wanted to hang out with them but I am too tired to get up from my recliner right now. Plus I can still be paged for another 20 minutes. We will see how things go tomorrow. Today could have been a lot worse.
Tiffany...hope you have a quiet 20 minutes. Is your brother staying with you? Can he come just hang out at your place? How many days left out of this stretch? Get some rest!
My brother is pretty awesome and when he comes my son loves it. He is so easy, helpful with everything and independent. He is going to stay up for a few days and hang out. Hopefully he and DH can have some fun while I work. The biggest question is whether he will try to go home or stay up until after Thanksgiving. I am fine either way. We have the space. He is doing some online consulting work - so he has stuff to do throughout the day.
I did get one last page (came in after 5, but I still answered it). Now the pager is off. I am so tired that I could go to sleep right now. First, I will take a mind cleansing shower.
In other news... I am starting to make a list of what we will need to feed my family of 10 for almost a week for Thanksgiving. I put together a menu for the week and I am really starting to get excited. Especially since I won't really be doing the work and DH is home and able to put it together. I love having him home. Makes my life so much easier.
