I guess we did win a couple things at the silent auction. DH got a call today. We won a neat decorative basket full of $10,000 in shredded money. There are little trees made out of money in there also. I don't think I want to take the trees apart to see what bills they are though. We also won a neat wooden necklace pendant that a wood turner made. DH has taken a class from the guy that made it. We've seen his stuff when he comes to the local art fair. His bigger pieces are very expensive. They are scary to pick up because I'm afraid of dropping them then having to buy them.
What is everyone's Thanksgiving plans? We are going to my parent's house. They only live about 15 minutes from us so it's nice that we are so close to eachother. My older sister, her husband and step-daughter will be there also. My younger sister has to work.
I thought I'd share the bday treats I made for DD3 to take to school. She'll turn 10 on Thanksgiving. This is the 2nd time her bday has been on Thanksgiving. She thinks it's pretty neat.
My parents, brother and grandmother arrive in town today. We are very excited. And I feel that we are rather ready for them to show up... just need to purchase a few more bottles of wine. My sister and her husband and kids should arrive tomorrow night.
I really wish I could do more cooking and preparing for everyone, because I love hosting. I wanted to make welcome baskets and such but that has not happened.
I would like to plan a birthday party for my son, but that is all on the backburner. I am having a hard time figuring out where we would want to have it, let alone when we could have it. His birthday is the 21st of December and that makes it a little difficult. But it is also a great way to get to know people. Last year we had a luau at a local indoor swimming pool. It was great fun. I am not as impressed with the pool he takes lessons at here. I know it is overkill, but I need to find a way to meet some other families.
Meg - that is a really cute treat! We had Thanksgiving over a month ago, although I am seeing lots of stores here are having "Black Friday" sales.
Tiffany...I'm sure it's fun and exciting to start having family arrive. I would think it would be hard to have a bday around Christmas time. DH's parents had a kid born on Dec. 7, 9 and 11. They were very busy. I think his bday got forgotten once when he was a child.
Black Friday is pretty much turning into Black Thursday. I think it's a bit ridiculous that stores are opening on Thanksgiving. I'm hoping all the crazy shoppers will be done by the time I hit the stores on Friday.
Sorry I've been MIA. Too much to read back but I'm thinking of everyone. It's been a little crazy here the last week or so. DH was out of town almost all of last week. My mom took the train up to stay since my dad was out of town as well (she isn't recovering quite as well as the doctors had hoped and still can't drive or stay by herself for more than a day or so). DH and I both got a 24hr viral bug Mon-yesterday. Good news - lost 2 more lbs but I would NOT recommend it as a weight-loss plan ;) I'm almost at 20lbs lost. Might see if I can find some good deals on some in-between clothes on Friday.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! I'm so thankful for each of y'all.
Jenni...good to hear from you. Sorry you and DH were sick. Good job on the weight loss. You deserve to go out and buy new clothes on Friday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!
I am kind of lurking around but thought I would post the link to my blog entry on my mom's funeral. missing my mommy It includes the speech I gave at the funeral.
Margaret...very nice speech in memory of your mother.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I had a nice day, ate lots of good food. The weather was so nice earlier yesterday then it got cold and windy. It was 30 degrees and very windy today. I decided it wouldn't be too fun to go to the Iowa State football game with my parents so I stayed home in my warm house.
Did anyone do any Black Friday shopping? My mom and I went, but didn't go crazy early. There really wasn't anything I needed or had to have. We got to the first store at 7am. It seems at that time it isn't too busy anywhere. We went everywhere we wanted to go in about 4 hrs. I bought some pillows, some silly socks and a shirt for DH and a TV at Target. I also got the movie "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" for $4. I avoided Wal-mart. After I got home I put away all my fall decorations and put up about 3/4 of my Christmas decorations. Tomorrow I'll finish then we'll put up the Christmas tree. I turned on my outdoor lights tonight.
We had a fun time at "Beauty and the Beast" on Wednesday. It was a cute show. We went out for dinner with my family before the show.
DH is on his way home from work then we are going to go out to eat. We'll have to hurry since he only has a 1/2 hr of non-interuppted time before he starts work again. After that who knows. Hopefully the place we are planning to eat at isn't too slow.
