Where does your church do work in Nicaragua? I think we go through Millenium Ministries. We stay our first and last night in Managua, then will travel out to a compound and stay there and travel to different villages each day. As part of the medical team we'll see and treat patients. My mom is going to be doing VBS with the kids there and my dad will be on the construction team. Last time he was there he helped build a church.

Good luck with your u/s tomorrow. It's always a nice feeling when you can kind of get an idea of when ER will be. It makes things a bit easier.

La Carbonara, though I think on arrival they stay in Managua for a night as well. All of the kids we sponser are from La Carbonara and we do farm loans in addition to building. It's a different minsitry from any other one I've known, just concnetrating on one place, but it has been cool to see the kids as they grow up and how the village grows and changes over time.

I'll post on another thread with my u/s update!

We sponser kids from villages also. It's need that ppl actually get to meet the kids they sponser. It will be nice to meet our girl. My parents sponser a girl and a boy. Their girl wants to go to school to become a doctor but obviously doesn't have the money and is a very good student. I think my parents might see what it will take to get her through school. Each trip the sponser puts together a bag of stuff for their child. When my parents met their sponser child that child recognized them through pictures and came running to them without even meeting them in person before. On one trip my dad went to the child's house and their pictures were hanging in their house. Sometimes you think that money you send to sponser kids goes to other things, but it's nice to actually see what it is going to.

Robbie's school sponsors a child. I forget where from. When school starts next week I will have to look on the board to see. My parents sponsored a boy from Haiti when I was a teen, eventually I dated a guy from Haiti and it was hard to hear how bad things were there and he left Haiti 25 years ago so I can just imagine what things are like now.

That sounds really neat. Not just for you guys to be involved with but also something your children definitely notice. I was supposed to go on a trip this spring to Honduras but it didn't end up working because of my job. I think trips like that would definitely be life-changing...

How was everyone's holiday weekend. We had beautiful weather! We went to the winery on Saturday. Children mentioned... We did the grape spitting contest. There were three prizes of cheese curds for the kids to wine and three prizes of a bottle of wine for the adults to win. Our 3 girls and a couple kids did the kids side and they walked away with 2 packs of cheese curds. The only ppl doing the adult side was me, DH, my sister and her boyfriend so we got 3 bottles of wine. We had good odds when no one else wanted to do it. We left before the buffalo chip throwing contest. I was so lazy over the weekend. We took my bike up to the lake and I didn't get on it once. I felt kind of bad that we brought it all the way. I slept in a bit in the morning and then we were so busy I didn't have time to ride. Oh well, I guess I deserve to be a little lazy at times.

The long weekend was busy. Yesterday we went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. Robbie loved it! I was amazed at how big it was. The badlands of Alberta has been a huge finding ground for dinosaurs and they have the largest collection in North America. It was a 3 hour drive there and then another 3 hour drive back but it was worth it. The 3.5 hours I did walking was not so nice on my knees but it was a good day. Today we did some stuff to get ready for first day of grade 2.

A cute quote from Robbie yesterday: "Grade 2 is going to be epic" I love how much he likes school!

Now I am off to get some cooking stuff done.

OMG - the day is finally here. I start my new job today. Luke starts his new school. He actually went this summer - half days for a month just to get acquainted with it and to give me some time to study. Luke really doesn't want to go, would rather stay home with mom and dad. But mommy is going to work. Daddy needs some time alone to find some work. And I know Luke benefits from the preschool activities and new friendships. We don't know any stay at home dads around here and the stay at home mom's group didn't look too inviting for a man... we're just not that progressive around here.

Margaret - I have been to a few paleontology museums in my day and the badlands in South Dakota. Plus we had a lot of great fossils in Texas. I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was little.

For the holiday we worked on getting a little more on schedule. Still waking up at 4:30 but that may be from jet lag and may be from the excitement/stress of starting a new job.

Going to work on finding some swim lessons for Luke. We already have him signed up for soccer and a child/parent sports class for later this fall.

    How is everyone's week going?

I've spent the last two days painting a room and still have a day or two of work left in it. I've put two coats of primer on so far and tomorrow I'll put the "real" color on. I'm thinking it's going to need more than one coat. After this project I'm going to be repainting our family room. This other room project is making me rethink the family room. At least I can tell myself nothing can be harder than the room I'm painting right now.

Last night when I went to bed a huge storm went through. Not a lot of rain, but lots of wind. DH was at the hospital and came home after he was done seeing patients because I don't really like storms. They used to not bother me much but I think I was scared since we haven't had a good storm in a long time.
