It really bugs me when ppl don't see depression as a medical diagnosis and judge when you are on meds for it. You don't judge ppl for being on high bp meds for high bp or insulin for diabetes so why judge for being on pysch meds. My ex was one who thought depression was just the way you thought and you could just change your thinking and be better. Sorry it took you a while to get help but I'm glad you finally got help. Depression and anxiety does run in my family. My mom was very depressed after an injury. Her pyschiatrist said that the anesthesia used during her surgery caused the chemical imbalance. I guess Northern Europeans are also more likely to have anxiety problems so that could explain some of mine. My mom said my gma was on "pills" when she was younger to calm her down. She continued to take anti-anxieties the rest of her life.

    Enjoy your meeting!

Ya, depression runs in my bio-family. When I was born my mom was in the psych ward, they moved her down to maternity for me to be born and then back to psych. I was apprehended at birth. My bio-brother also has mental health issues and we were the 2 placed for adoption. Cool story - he grew up across the street from where I took piano lessons but we had no clue. My 2 bio-sisters probably have mental health issues but do not acknowledge them. It is sad. With both Sean and I dealing with it, we have been watching to see if there were signs.

Margaret...sounds like you've dealt with the trials in life well. How did you end up finding your bio-brother?

I took down the wallpaper border in my family room. I just have a little bit left of wall to scrub to get the glue off. Hopefully I'm getting it all off. I just have to wait for DH to get home to help me move out entertainment center.

Here are the pillows I got for my family room. I'm thinking of painting the walls the darker color.

I found my bio-brother by having the government do a disclosure on my mother. Since she kept my 2 sisters I knew she would at least know where they were and hoped she knew where Danny was. He was 12 at placement so I was not surprised that he reunited with her. The disclosure process took 8 years, I turned 18 the same year that disclosure was made possible so there were a lot of people ahead of me. Disclosure happened one month BEFORE the government would have launched a search... I did have some memories of my siblings (and not so good ones of my bio-mother) so it was nice to find them. Not sure that I have dealt with things well or just accepted that this is my life.

The darker colour looks nice and I think that is the one I would choose. You can always do a swatch on the wall and see how you like it.

Yeah, I have about 7 different color swatches hanging on my wall right now. I think we'll get a sample size mixed up and bring it home and put a little on the wall before buying all the paint.

Accepting life the way it is is a good way of dealing with life.

I have been chosen as a finalist for the position I interviewed for last week! I have a phone interview tomorrow at 1 pm my time (the people doing the interview are in Toronto). If I get the job I will be training in Toronto which means that I will be paid to go and visit my family and maybe see my mom again before she dies.

Congrats on being a finalist for the job!!! That's great news. Good luck with your phone interview. That'd be nice to get paid to see your family.

I've been trying to find a new ceiling fan for my family room. I don't like the looks of the one we have, plus I think it's possessed. We don't use the light much because I use the lamp next to the couch. On the few times we have the light on, the fan comes on and off by itself. I'm looking for a mission style ceiling fan since our lamps are mission and the rest of the lights in the house we replaced are more missiony. When we redo our kitchen I want to do a mission style kitchen.

Margaret - hope you get the job! As long as you like your life and you feel like you have risen the obstacles set in your way, then I think that is all you can ask for. I hope your son gets the help he needs.

Meg - I love mission style and we are really trying to decide what style fits us best. Our styles are so eclectic. I am going to try to find a reclaimed wood/farmhouse table - but not sure if that really fits our style. The cheapest thing for us to do would probably be either the midwest oak table seen in 1/2 of households here and readily available on Craigslist or Ikea.

Hope we get some good news soon about the girls who are cycling.

I've been thinking about the girls cycling also. Hope we get some good news!!

When we redo our kitchen I want to get a new kitchen table. I don't care for it so much, DH thinks it's fine because nothing is wrong with his. He has a hard time replacing things that are good shape, but not up to times. Kind of like our family room. I feel like the greenish color on the family room walls and border is out of date. He thinks it's fine. Idk if he has some kind of sentimental attachment to the table since his former wife bought it when she was in college. Idk, but I don't like it. We did get a new dining room table. We had it built by a woodworker in IA. It's a mission style. The table length is 8 feet but we had 8 leaves made for it so it can extend to 16 feet. We can fit lots of ppl around it. We only had 8 chairs made though because we didn't want to have to store so many extra chairs when not in use. The Amish in Iowa build really need stuff also.

Last night my internet quit working. I hate not having internet. I thought it was some type of equipment failure of our stuff so I was unplugging stuff and replugging it in. Then I decided to call the cable company and for once it was their problem. Now it's working.
