Dinner was a success! It took a long time to make though...over an hour in the kitchen. This is what I made Cajun Steak Frites with Kale Recipe | MyRecipes.com. Instead of flank steak I used filet and NY strip. Children mentioned...DD3 was in heaven because she LOVES steak. She is a true carnivore. She likes her steak medium rare which is odd for a 10 year old. Most kids would gag at a bloody steak on their plate. DD2 was in heaven because she loves potatoes. She likes her steaks well done so it was a bit difficult getting them done to everyone's liking. I kind of overcooked the NY strip. This was my first time really cooking steak, let alone in a broiler. I usually plan steak for when DH will be home to cook. When we were at Ruth's Chris DD3 liked DH's sirloin better than her melt in your mouth filet mignon she had on her plate. She likes the more flavorful/fattier steaks I've learned. I prefer the steak you can cut with a fork. DD2 got a baked potato at Ruth's Chris. They only serve potatoes if they are over 1 lb, so her potato was her meal. I had some wine with my meal also. I feel guilty drinking when DH can't but I felt I deserved it after being in the kitchen for an hour with a 500 degree oven on. Of course DH doesn't mind. He'll be home in a bit and can have the plate I've saved for him.

It'd be nice if your brother would be able to just stay until after Thanksgiving. That way he wouldn't have to travel twice. What types of meals are you putting together for your family? In some ways it's just as easy to cook for a larger group. I'm sure you really appreciate having DH home. I honestly think when there is a doctor in a marriage, the other has to stay home. Being a doctor is such a demanding job. My BFF I met online on an IF forum is a physician in the Mpls area and her DH is a SAHD also. Enjoy your shower...you deserve it!!!

(child ment) Robbie likes his steak med rare but that is how Sean and I eat it so no surprise. We called Robbie our little carnivore, he had his first bit of steak at 11 months (at the gift opening after his cousin's wedding). He still loves meat! I think we figured out that is happening with Robbie - we looked at the info from his new meds - rages are a possible side effect. We have stopped it and will call his psychiatrist on Tuesday. On tuesday my friend is taking me to my u/s appointment. Hope there is some good looking follies!

Margaret...I hope taking him off his meds helps with your son's behavior problems. Did it seem to be helping for what he was on it for? Hope the pyschiatrist can find something else. Good luck at your u/s.

Today is cold and yucky. It was in the 70's yesterday and in the 30's and rainy/sleety today. Good day to stay in the house. I think I'm going to bake some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins.

It was a very low dose anti-depressant and would have taken a month to see any kind of results.

I woke up this morning to the sound of a big buck scratching his antlers on a bush right outside my bedroom window. I snapped as good of a pic as I could with my phone camera. Time to get out the winter coats. I had been putting it off but it's in the 20's right now. Child mentioned....my child is too practical. DD3 bday is on Thanksgiving so I asked her what she wanted for her bday. She wants a wall clock for her room so she doesn't have to get out of bed to turn off her timer when she is done reading at night. I think we'll get her the movie "War Horse" since we'll be going to see that live in December. The day before Thanksgiving we'll be going to see "Beauty and the Beast" at the live theater in Des Moines so those can all be part of her gifts also.

I went to yoga this morning and it kicked my butt! We used weights today so really worked our arms and core. I had a voicemail on my phone from a photo studio saying I won their drawing at an open house I went to. I think I'm going to turn down what I won though. It's a holiday photo session. I think you get the session for free (a $25 value) but you have to purchase a package which is anywhere from $110-$200. We don't need pics right now as we spent all day yesterday doing our Christmas card pic. Plus, the days she is doing it we are busy. I probably shouldn't have signed up for the drawing but I did thinking I wouldn't win. I need to start playing the lotto or something. This is the 2nd thing I've won in 2 days. We are going on a "Casino Night" in January so maybe I'll win big that night with my current good luck streak, but that's probably too far away. It's a fundraiser for the annual Gala to raise money for the private school in town. With the $50 it costs to register you get to take a chartered bus with drinks provided to a casino, get to eat at the buffet and get $10 in slot money. Should be fun night even though we aren't gamblers.

On our 10th anniversary we went into the casino. I took $20 and left my purse in the hotel room. I played slots and walked away when I had $29 credit. Not bad for someone who does not gamble unless you call free on-line bingo gambling. During the summer I worked a casino for the school (here casinos have to pay a certain amount of their profits to charitable groups, we made $80.000), in 2 nights I counted just over $500,000 and that did not count the poker tables or slots! It was crazy!

I just ordered our Christmas card pics from shutterfly. They were 40% off. I got 200 Christmas cards and 123 4x6 prints that I needed printed off for $60. Bargain!!

My dad is going to smoke a turkey for us tomorrow. He's smoking a couple others and we had one we wanted to get out of our freezer. We'll have my parents for dinner tomorrow night. We are going to try to stay away from a "Thanksgiving-y" meal though since that will be next week.

I am not much of a gambler either, but I still love Vegas... every 5 years or so. The nickel slots are my friend.

I love steak too! I finally just got to reading that post. I love mine medium rare as well. Maybe we will have to have that for dinner tonight. With some roasted cauliflower; or maybe some mashed cauliflower. Maybe with some tomatoes and mozzarella.

A smoked turkey sounds awesome!!!! Wish we had someone in the family who smoked things... smoked meats are a Texan thing I really miss.

I did some grocery shopping yesterday, really taking time to look for diabetic friendly foods. I am not, but I think it is a healthy diet especially for the end of pregnancy. Made me realize how hard it would be to be a diabetic.

    (preg ment)
I have been having some minor issues with the pregnancy later (spent a night at l&d, got an ultrasound this morning and am waiting for an appt with my ob). I think the hospital rounds may be getting a bit much for me. Anyway, I suspect if I don't find a way to slow down I am going to be on bedrest in the next 2-4 weeks. If I slow it down when I am home, I might just make it a little longer.

DH and I have a vacation ownership at the Marriott Grand Chateu in Vegas. We went there probably three years in a row but haven't been back for a while. We need to be better about using our ownership but we bought it to use in the future when we are able to do more traveling. We don't really do any gambling when we are there. We just walk around and ppl watch and like to go to shows and eat good food. We are too money practical to gamble. I used to like my steaks really well done but now I've come to appreciate the juiciness of a rarer steak. We are kind of picky with what steaks we buy so they are generally a really good cut of meat so are better more rare. Mashed cauliflower sounds good. I've never made it. Do you just make it like mashed potatoes? My dad has always smoke meats. He raises hogs so he smokes a lot of hogs or pork loins for weddings or graduations. DH has started smoking some meats also. He likes to do that at our lake house. Sounds like you are doing a really good job with your diet. I read in the January chat thread that you had spent some time in L&D. Hope you are able to take it a bit easier. I'm sure it's hard for you to do though.

Our plumber is coming over this morning to give us a price for the cost of our shower we are wanting to do. DH has a call into our general contractor to see when he can get started on our bathroom project.
